Same here Stav , left home and weather was OK but by the time I got to my destination , a farm near the moors the wind had picked up and it was horizontal rain..... I was there so decided to see if any rabbits were out , luckily I took my quad sticks to shoot from as usually use my twin sticks. I put a tea towel which I had in the car in my gamebag as I was constantly having to dry my glasses and scope ....what a ballache I can tell you. Some rabbits I couldn't shoot as I simply couldn't see them through the scope .Anyway it made for interesting and challenging shooting , testing my resolve to

In the good old days I used to call every fox in with my hand , got rather adept at it . It always amazes me that every one else I have been.out foxing with over the years was fascinated by it as they couldn't do it.

It's good kit but too expensive, I am just a recreational fox shooter . Saying that my fox population is well under control and that's just lamping , dont think I would get any more using thermal and nv. I had 31 this year but normally averaged around 50 but dont go out as much as I did and dont have as much permission as I had. Hopefully get a few off my mates new permission but he will be using the new C50 as farmer has requested this. I've said it before but I just love seeing the ruby eyes coming in to a call , that's the buzz for me , shooting them with nv doesnt give me that buzz...

I know what you are saying ,if you get a LOT of lamp shy foxes = dog lads. In my 30 years experience of lamping foxes I can honestly say that most foxes that get within range get shot , yes a few get missed but not a great deal in my experience. Lamp shy foxes in numbers is not caused by riflemen but being run by dogs. If I had your problem with lamp shy foxes I too would have Nv but it's not a problem for me , lamp still works fine. Saying that cant wait to look through the C50 my mate has just bought?

Red is definitely the best for picking up eye shine , green and blue are sh*t. I used to spot with red and shoot with white no problem but since buying the Night Saber in red I now spot with red and shoot with red, never seen a lamp shy fox for years now as they are usually shot 1st time seen. I also think that as everybody now uses thermal and nv , except me , they dont get lamp shy anymore ???

On a shoot you are outdoors anyway so well ventilated but just remind everyone about social distancing, eat outdoors and dont share food and dont share a vehicle with anyone and hopefully you will be OK ? -
I'm not after one mate as said my mate has just bought the new Pulsar C50 and says it looks great. Not been out with it yet as he has Covid but will be shortly on that new farm he picked up.He was beating for them on Friday and they pushed a fox out , also farmer has asked him to thin the roe out , he counted 10 in a field. Happy days ???

Yep good idea , do a risk assessment and get everyone to read and sign. That's what I did last year on our shoot then everyone knows where they stand even though they still ignore it you have done your bit ? -

My mate just phoned , hes got Covid too. He is double jabbed and boostered, there is no escape. -
Well after feeling better I had to go out yesterday. I arrived at the farm with only half an hour of light left and headed straight for the small copse that always holds a couple of roe. I skirted round the copse only to see a roe bouncing up the field and over the crest, thought my chance had gone but 200 yds further along out popped another ? Went lamping and not a fox to be seen ?

I feel your pain, hope you make a swift recovery although I was in bed 10 days with it and then it takes a while to build energy levels back up. -
7.30 tonight and lights out ?

Well I'm recovered now and chomping at the bit to be out.Cant wait for the weekend ? -
At least your out , I'm actually better today and going to work. Trying to shoot woodies on winter rape is a right pain especially if they are flocked up , 1 shot and they're gone. Good luck but it's just nice to be out of the house ?

Great write up and a few cleared up ?

I always walk a place but have the same stands which produce time and time again after many years of sussing spots out. I would say 95 % of the foxes I call are blind calls , if I spot a fox it inevitably ends up in it disappearing. Just shows different parts of the country require different approaches , no good going looking for them up here let the caller do its job. I have always found that when I have travelled South shooting foxes it has always been a lot easier than up North.
