  1. Good start to the season Sounder Hope it continues !
  2. Last night saw me and david searching the stubbles for charlie again. The shoot captain had caught a fox in the larsen trap so we looked there and there was a fox in the field below which David shot !! There was another couple further down the field but they escaped into the adjacent wood We tried another stubble and I managed to call another , but it only showed its head , David head shot it with another good shot at 160 yds On inspection though we couldnt believe it was carrying a sunflower
  3. Tell the truth Remmy , you did it with a pencil
  4. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm..._raccoon%29.jpg This was the chap ............
  5. Me and David went out foxing again to our favourite spot , lay up watching a good area but nothing showed Then we had a shine with the lamp , saw about 8 foxes but couldnt get a shot at any due to being skylined or not safe or disappearing into a dip David only managed the one but still its better than nowt !! Do you like his tan Travelling home we were amazed to see walking down the road to us a rare critter..........................a raccoon !!! Yes a raccoon , we were gobsmacked , can only presume it has escaped from somewhere!
  6. Bet those foxes wished you stayed on holiday mate :11: :11: Cant wait til these fields are all down , then the fun will begin !!!
  7. More land you jammy sod !! Must be your infectious charm
  8. JD still a top predator mate just one of those days where nothing goes right !! Are you still alive ? I thought youd deceased , never in when I ring , must be curb crawling or taking pics of butterflies
  9. OK FD , there should be plenty for you to have a pop at mate !!
  10. Yesterday evening and this morning first light saw me stalking for foxes . They certainly gave me the run around I only saw 1 last night and I spotted it just as I came arond a dry stone wall , we stared each other out for about 3 or 4 mins before he decided to make an exit without offering a shot 5.30am this morning I spied a fox in some rushes approx 200 yards away , I lay down with the bipod out but couldnt see the fox clearly enough for a shot so I had to move a little , the fox must have seen movement and off he went. I was then spying some ground in front of me when I turned
  11. Just weigh it first on some kitchen scales to get the weight , the volume is done by immersing in water. The weight will give you a rough idea though !!
  12. This is the biggest fox Ive ever had , it was huge , nearly as big as me It weighed just a shade over 20 lbs
  13. What weight is it ? This is the crucial part to determine if its a medal !!
  14. Always nice to get some new permission Martin especially when theres plenty of charlies on it
  15. Well after all the rain I finally had a look out last night on a sheep farm which was disappointing for foxes last season. After crossing through a field of sheep and having to manouvre around some flighty bullocks I spied charlie coming down a fence line but unfortunately couldnt get a shot for the tall vegetation , he lives to fight another day !! I ventured over to a cut silage field which has been good in the past and as I flicked the lamp on there was charlie staring back at me , I lay down on the bipod and could only see its head as there was a slight impression in the ground, I ste
  16. Get some 58 grn for the .243 mate , dogs b****cks. You'll be knocking them over at 300 yards !! Wish the fields were down , sick of the rain and standing crops !!
  17. Spot on !! Ive always used BBs keeping the distance sensible. Once tried SGs , never again pattern of shot missed fox cleanly at close range , better off having more pellets in the pattern!! :clapper:s
  18. My mates rifle is a .243 Tikka 595 I think , but I could be wrong!
  19. Well after the brilliant night I had on Friday I was itching to be out again , so after a few phone calls I picked my mate up and off we went to a local sheep farm where the farmer wants the foxes thinning. Straight off I picked up a set of eyes , my mate steadied himself on the dry stone wall and I called ,this fox came screaming in and I had to shout to stop him............................a 58 gr v-max exploded its head Continued calling in the next field and was surprised to see another fox coming in from where the 1st one had been shot , this one followed the fence line
  20. A cracking morning out mate , its great stalking that part of the world , plenty of deer !!
  21. Thanks lads for all the replies , we had a great nights fox control , note I say control as this is sheep farming country and foxes have to be controlled heavily here as there is a never ending supply of foxes crawling out of the forestry where no control takes place. I am not bothered if they are controlled with guns or dogs but to be honest mate no dog would ever match the rifle in this part of the world , the topography doesnt allow it !!
  22. I was kindly invited up to the Scottish Borders by my mate BRNO17 for a spot of foxing. I took David with me to shoot as he just loves those foxes We went to BRNO17s place first and started off with a cub which was lying out in a swamp , no way of getting any closer so the pressure was on for David who pulled off a great 1st shot of the night shooting the cub in the head at approx 180 yds Next we headed out for a bank wherethere was a litter of cubs , as we reached the spot I flicked the lamp on and there was the bright eyes shining back , David dropped to the floor and this time
  23. Nice one Baz , thats another cracker youve grassed !!
  24. I would say fox as well , its happened to me before as well !!
