  1. I seen both extremes with reared duck , from wont fly at all to where the sky is full of extremely high birds that noone can shoot. I suppose you get the same with pheasants, either hedge hoppers or screamers.
  2. Pity didnt post this earlier as was shooting yesterday and could have got some. Not out again now for a fortnight.
  3. Thanks SL for your advice. I have tried telling them to feed the ducks off the water but the others insist on feeding the water. I feed the water too but I also feed some splashes 100- 150 yds away. Our 1st shoot they did actually fly but yesterday thought better of it , never mind we will see what they do next time ????
  4. Our day never went as planned either. 1st off the ducks wouldn't fly and there wasnt the number of pheasants about that I expected coupled with we only had 7 guns and 1 beater. We ended up with 30 head so not too bad but was hoping for double that .
  5. Too right , hare tastes like shite. Cwd is best venison in my opinion.
  6. Well I shot a personal best today , 4 out of 4 on woodcock ???
  7. Told you us Northerners were better ???????????
  8. I am happy if I shot 1 ? as live in a low density area. Saying that my best night is 8 foxes which I have done twice. I shoot every fox I see as feel like I am helping out the red listed birds we have such as lapwing, curlew and grey partridge. I have a lot of blank nights as have shot the foxes hard over the last 20 years and are on top of them. For example on our game shoot I haven't seen or shot a single fox this year.
  9. Our 1st drive tomorrow is also to thin the ducks out as going through some feed ?????good numbers of pheasants knocking about too seeing as none have been shot yet. Hopefully weather better than today as pissing down now ?
  10. Snow up here this morning ❄? hopefully plenty birds tomorrow in the covers.
  11. As said tougher foxes , not released southern softies ?
  12. We will get a detailed shoot report at the weekend ?
  13. Soft Southern foxes mate , Northern foxes much tougher ?? I remember years ago my mate was shooting 85 gr hollow points , 6 foxes in a row ran on anywhere up to 60 yds. I said can you not shoot them properly but on inspection every one was perfect behind the shoulder. I once shot a small vixen with 100 gr soft point and it just walked off with no reaction into some gorse , thought I had missed it but on checking was lying dead in the gorse.
  14. Never seen a fox run on with vmax but I suppose if bullet just blows up on the surface it wont die immediately, seen plenty runners with hollow point and soft point though.
  15. 2 is a great result. Light force are notorious for wiring problems , many a time I had to repair it in the field. Glad I use T50 torches now with no wires.
