    theres alot of lads breeding true workers just keep quiet about it Theres not many as you think breeding true workers, unless you live in Ireland, some people kill the odd rabbit with their deerhound and it automatically becomes a working deerhound. Pre ban at organised deerhound coursing I witnessed deerhounds that wouldnt run a hare that lifted in front of them, or ones that were running so half heartedly it was un-reasl, then, there were the propper workers.     Helens right, forget most deerhounds from show lines..My deerhounds would face lions, and one of my dogs had a particular hatered of Alsations, used to throw the guard dog from a local scrap year all over the place if he got half a chance. Theres an injection that can help anyones deerhound that performs as Helen suggests, its cheap and made of lead and the effects last a long, long time

    Usually natural retrievers, not to lab standards though..soft mouthed, maybe, but not with fox or deer..GREATTTTTTTTTTTTT with kids, wont bite them, but can give a nasty lick. Will hunt anything..well at least the ones Ive used would..maybe better with a deerhound cross though

    30 rabbits is a canny number of rabbits, and would take some doing anywhere, aint seen many of what I would class as average lurchers take 30 in one night, and never seen an average lurcher catch 30 consistantly over whatever period of time..unless you have a good dog, and as its already been pointed out, a place that supports large numbers of rabbits, stick to a bit mooch and one for the pot

    Theres not many done it, a lot more dogs have killed 5 out of 5 hares than killed 30+ rabbits in one night imo

    Most of the people who say they are no good for smaller stuff are people who have never had an example of the breed, Ive had a couple of first crossers over the years, both got the odd rabbit..

    Both..you cant breed rats from mice..but who gets the pups can make a big difference. I bred lurcher for graft, and a couple did go to part timers who didnt get the most out of these dogs, in the hands of more enthusiastic hunters, I believe they would have made much better dogs.

    Well I havent owned, and wouldnt own a lurcher with a large percentage of saluki in it. Not for me, but thats my choice.
