  3. Thanks for the comments Hannah..maybe its just that some folk just dont like zoos..or maybe you need a fanny between your legs on here Got 2nd out of 96 images at our loacal camera club with the lion shot last Thursday..
  4. Numbers arnt everything..or so Ive been told..40+ "with ease", I dont think so
  5. Thats more my dog Gaff, had similar breeding for years..good numbers dogs, all quarry..hey I know that wall...
  6. you have to let them matchure pal dont no how long you no when they are ready wont be long if his dog is 15months cupple more months wont do it any harm Ive only had 2 first crossers, a dog and a bitch, both were killing (rabbits) before a year old..but its always good to hear sensible views of giving any dog plenty of time to develope, both physically and mentally, havent ever spoilt a dog through entering too early, but Ive seen others who did spoil their dogs, and they werent deerhound crosses. Canny looking dogs by the way
  7. ok that one, better than what Ive got..but I will..
  8. Hope your doing better than me with those kingfishers, Ive been out 30+ hours up to now and never had a sniff of one..
  9. When I was young only the best got mated to the best, if the dog or bitch wasnt one of the best dogs around, you wouldnt get rid of the pups..this type of breeding as already suggested can work, "on the short term"
  10. Keep at it matie, it dosnt come over night, it it does come
  11. Will do matie, how you keeping, hows your lass and the bairn? come on ye reds... Thanks for the comments guys..busy sorting some more out
  12. Bitches for me, all my best workers have been bitches..
  13. Tomo your my kind of hunter.. we had a farm on the Scottish borders, the gamekeeper told us he had 10,000 rabbits off it in one year, we got it in the August and by the December we had taken 3000 off it, lamping, ferreting and some night time long netting. Best day ferreting was 82, or it could have been 83, I will check my records, a hunters paradise..
  14. Ive already posted that I kept records for not only my dogs, but the dogs of everyone Ive ever travelled with, lads still come to my place for copies of my records for their dogs...one guy who boasted of his dog from the past travelled mainly with me, as said his dog had killed over 100 hares..three of us went through all my books, and guess what, she killed 17..a hell of a way off 100..always noticed that when a dog dies its tallies are muliplied loads...
  15. Kept records since the 70`s, not just for my dogs, but all the dogs Ive travelled with
  16. Took these few at the zoo during my holidays..
  17. Ive been raking through my many hundreds of prints from organised hare coursing events from the hills to the fens with deerhounds..Busy scanning some into computer as a record of some of the good times I had before the ban..heres a couple. Taken with Olympus OM10 35mm camera.
  18. Totally agree, not a lover of collie crosses by themselves, especially first crossers, I always went more towards the deerhound I must say, but then again way back in the deerhounds past there was collie blood, go to much towards the collie and your stock will be coarse, heavier boned and if the dog you keep is under 24 inches will be cloddy and restricted in what it can do, ok for ferreting, but for hares away from lamping and the corn cuttings it will be limited..All my dogs that I kept were 23-24 inches, about 40-45lb in weight, perfect for all rounders..
