  1. well it all depends. Inside is simpler but the cage has to be longer with the treadle far enough back to make sure the animal is in before the door drops. (common fault on cheap fox traps) External needs a locking bar - bit harded to make. Something like this
  2. It looks like a 'Monarch' Rat trap.
  3. Plus VAT plus about £8 carriage, which is a bit of a crippler
  4. Right these are on order now and I'll be PMing back those that were interested next week. P&P should be about a couple of quid. If anyone one else wants any at this price give me a shout this week 'cause after that the price will go up to £3.50 for ten. They were a bit more expensive than I had hoped.
  5. The same way that a bluetit hangs onto the front of a planed plywood nest box I expect.

Open any topic Click on 'Options' on the top right Move down the drop down list to 'Display Modes' and select 'Standard'
  7. To go through on the way out they would have to have enough run up inside the trap to get to a good speed, aiming at the entrance hole. The traps isn't big enough for that Then just at the right moment they would have to fold their wings in like a sky diver to fit back through the hole then quickly get there wings out again. Not impossible but would take a bit of planning Jackdaws might be clever enough to 'climb' out though. Have a read of the discussion on here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=14348
  8. Yeuk - do you eat with those fingers ?

I have, for now, suspended that topic because it getting out of hand again. I frankly can't be arsed to go through it and unpick all the 'he said' 'she said' crap out of it and decide who's right and who's wrong. Clearly there are some differing perspectives about the topic and about the participants, but let's just leave it there shall we ? I'll run it round the other MODS and see what they think - it can always be edited and go back. But let that be a warning to everyone; if you choose to start a controversial topic don't be surprised if things get a bit personal.
  10. The manufacturers are in discussions with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust for distribution in the UK. Nothing in place yet though as far as I can establish.
  11. I'm looking at ordering a load of 12" BobWires wholesale so if anyone wants any drop me a PM. 10 for £5.50 or 20 for £10 including P&P Let me know John
  12. OTC I challenged on the same point but I think I was wrong According to this BASC information sheet The Conibear 120 is approved for squirrels, mink and various other animals. http://www.basc.org.uk/content/pestmammalspractice The 120 is also listed as a Mink trap in the DEFRA advice sheet http://www.defra.gov.uk/rds/publications/t...ical/tan_02.pdf However the online version of the 1995 Order doesn't seem to have it http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1995/Uksi_19952427_en_2.htm
  13. OTC I agree - it looks to be a 'design' issue rather than one of build quality. As I said before the one I have seems very well put together.
  14. Holdaway I'm afraid you're not going to get a definitive answer - the truth is they might but are unlikely to on a consistent and reliable basis. I have never caught a woodpigeon in that one of mine, nor a magpie but it's never been baited for magpies. However I did once catch a magpie in the guiniepig run where is slipped under the archway and couldn't get out. I think you'd be far better with a tunnel for magpies. I have been toying with the idea of a multipurpose trap for a while now but I don't think you'll be able to rely on just one mechanism.
  15. I am working on a set of step by setp instructions for one at the moment - hope to have it available in April.
  16. Thanks Rolfe - that explains that then. Thought I was going mad for a minute
  17. Prompted by Axholme Ferreters post on the other thread I've just been rereading the 2007 variation. The clause 'must be set in a natural or artificial tunnel which is suitable for minimising the chances of injuring or killing non-target species whilst not compromising the capture and killing of target species' is now attached to every trap on there, including the Kania 2500. That can't be right can it ? Unless the housing counts as a tunnel. I've not had a Kania until recently not paid much attention on previous versions. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/uksi_20072708_en_
  18. I won't clutter up the other thread, but in case anyone hasn't seen them, this is the offical web site for the 'DOC' series of traps http://www.predatortraps.com/traps.htm It promised 'field results' although that section is currently empty.
  19. Just for the record I don't think this should be taken in isolation - this is just a comparison between two indiividual traps From above Solway 6 left and Springer 6 right - the SOLWAY is noticably tighter than the Springer here. And a Springer 4 - much tighter than the 6
  20. Bloody hell, what have I started Here we go then, Solway 6 an Springer 6 side on - sorry there opposite ways round. The Springer has a bend in the 'flat' bar near the top which brings the flat bar and round bar together. This is also found on the fenn. For comparison here is a Springer 4 -both the Springer and Fenn 4s are much tighter
  21. Are you looking at the right pics - not the copies ? The build looks OK to me
  22. AF No problem with that at all - a good input to the thread. Based on those notes it reads as though it would be true that other non-branded traps can be used. However the downside seems to be that the responsibility would be with the user to be sure that they were equivalent in all relevant respects to a spring trap of a type and make specified. I'm not sure that all of the copies are so if challenged you'd probably need to be able to prove that the trap was equivalent. Can you put up a link to where you're looking please ? The copy I have on this link doesn't seem to have those notes
  23. Moley I wonder if that was an early production problem - the one I had a few weeks ago looks fine, although not been used in anger
