I still see nothing wrong with people making things for other people - and making a small turn on it. I don't see how that takes anything away from the free information that's available or in anyway goes against Glenn's gift to the common man. And the best snarers aren't necessarily the best wire workers. Right, now we're getting to the point - and it's a different one to the one Ianrob was originally making I think. If we're saying there are specific quality issues with any of the sellers then lets hear about those and not this 'betraying the man on the street' rhetoric. That was

My interpretation is that if you're on private land you need permission. If you're on public land I have to admit I'm not completely sure. I don't know what rights exist for ferreting on public land

Really ? I thought it was pretty explicit Good reason for carrying a knife may be shown by occupation as a farmer, estate manager, recreational stalker, gameshooter, angler or anyone else who has reasonable grounds for expecting to need a knife whilst pursuing a lawful activity. Carrying a knife in public must be in connection with the activity for which it is needed; going into a shop with a knife in your pocket if you are returning from or going to a place where you farm, fish or shoot etc. would constitute good reason

I think this is just simple free market economics. The Intellectual Property belongs to Glenn - no question. He's published it on here so it's free and available to everyone and good on him. No one can take those ideas or techniques and claim them as their own. Nor can they take them and withhold them from any one else. Equal access for all. Now the truth is that despite that, there are a large proportion of people who are either a) unable b.) too busy, c)too idle d) want small uneconomic quanities or for any one of a number of other reasons, do not want to make their own. There are p

That grass will need some work if we're going to be playing croquet. But seriously, I'm glad you've posted these and not been put off by what people might think. There's a lot of experience on here and there have been some good points, positively made already. The important thing is that people don't feel afraid to make a suggestion or float an idea on the forum.

Perhaps if you were to show a receipt for the chicken .....

Just to throw an idea in here completely unresearched: would those cat repellent sprays be any good here ? usually strong citrus based smells. I know rabbits have a keen sense of smell but I don't know if they would be put off as much as cats are supposed to be. You might be able to spray the runs rather than the snare itself. My instinct is that this probably wouldn't work but you never know

Didn't you ask more or less the same thing last year ? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=37286

Just in case anyone is in any doubt, the use of bird lime is no longer legal.

Well that's a real shame Come on guys, I don't want this section going the same way as the dog sections have. Anyone who has a view should voice it - I can't promise people will agree with you but that shouldn't stop you. If people are using bits and pieces like this and finding them useful don't be afraid to say so. The value of a forum like this is the range and depth of the information and experience from lifetime experts to beginners. Personally I like the neatness of this holder but can see some potential issues with it too. Not having done much hoop snaring and never used one

I hadn't spotted that but you've had your 'right of reply' now. No more about it on this topic now please you two - take it to PM if you must.

As an industry outsider it seems to me that ofcourse the industry wouldn't fold - I mean the pests are hardly likely to just go away are they ? We'd be overrun All that would happen is that it would change. To begin with the costs of pest control might go up - more traps means more manpower to check then, more cost of kit and all that sort of thing. There would also be an increase in DIY pest control and all the fun that brings with it. Council tax would go up to cover the increased costs and probably there would be a lot more money spent on proofing - which is no bad thing. But soon

As has been said, this is a well documented and rather barbaric method which has long been illegal in the UK. Rightly too. You raise an interesting point though about leaving hooked bait unattended - worth a post in the fishing forum I should think.

"The 'funnel' is very widely used in traps of all kinds; who hasn't seen a lobster pot? The principle is that the quarry animal will squeeze inside, aided by the shape of the funnel and lured by the bait. Once inside it is unable to escape either because it cannot find the small exit hole or because it cannot get through it. Funnels are not very effective for ground vermin but work well for birds both horizontally and vertically." Although top funnel traps will actually work for mice. Ground funnels allow birds to walk in and the funnel shape helps them to just squeeze throu

He made it there's a post on here about it http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=66010 Mind you we never heard if he caught anything with it Kinderbeano - you just need to look a little harder on here mate. There are lots of threads about pigeon traps just do a search. Here are a few http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=26537 http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=17850 http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=53942

I know that this has run and run (and Matt will be jumping back in I'm sure) but you have to admit Stubby releasing your rabbits onto new ground has to be a contravention of the spirit of "prevent them from going onto others,". And if you're catching the rabbits with permission then your acting for the landowner to they are 'your rabbits'. If your not then you're poaching anyway. Interesting question though - if you have permission at both are you just moving them 'within your land'. What we need on this is some case law.

well they look OK to me mate well done. Maybe a bit on the heavy side (is that decking you've used ?) but no problem with that. The mesh end is good - large, clear and very well fastened. The 'U' lock is spot on too. Why did you leave the base board extra long though ? Is there a theory behind that ?

your rabbit Body grip pics
john b replied to Teesdale-rabbiter's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
T-R Have a search on here and you'll find several posts showing bodygrips in use. Teejay is one name that springs to mind as a frequent poster on this subject. Also search for 'cubby' as there a few posts under that. However you need to be mindful that many of the pics in situ will be shown without the cubby tunnels inplace - just for clarity. It is essential that you use a tunnel of some sort to cover the trap - either mesh or wood are typicaly the best. JB -

I had a box of my 'Step by Step' book arrive today and there were two copies in it which weren't properly bound. I'm not happy selling them like that so I've decided to give them away to a good home. One is already offered but the other's going free to any Young Hunter who's interested. Just reply to this thread telling everyone what trap you want to make and why. This is NOT a case of first come - first served.
