They used to turn up regularly on ebay but there's none on at the moment.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I wasn't saying you'd got it wrong. That wide bar above the peg seems to support the approach you've taken and my suggestion might not even work if the ratios arent right. That block intrigues me though. It was loose in the box you say ? not attached to the string or the door ? Any chance of a close up of the block ?

That looks a very interesting piece - albeit a little large for the display shelf ! I really like those locking bars - very neat idea. As for information ? well it's not quite like anything I have seen before - similar to a lot of things and using some common principles but not quite the same. I can't find anything like it in my books either. I can't put my finger on it, but that string arrangement doesn't look quite right somehow. The rest of the trap is made with such elegance and simplicity that I can't help thinking the trigger would be 'neater' than that - but I have no eviden

Just for the benefit of any inexperienced members who may be reading this gin traps are no longer legal in the UK and are collectors items. 'Working Order' refers to their condition not that they are suitable for use.

I was just about to stick this on ebay but thought I'd give you guys a crack at it first. Might make a nice set for a small syndicate somewhere. It includes: 6 place settings of cup, saucer and plate (I have only included a single setting in the photo) 1 sugar bowl (in photo) 1 milk jug (in Photo) Not really sure what it's worth but open to offers over £25 at this stage - might be less by the time it gets to ebay. If you need it posting then P&P is at your cost.

Jasp I'm not sure about the legality There's issues from the protected species side I assume but also there is law prohibiting 'mechanical nets' But have a look here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=31912

I think we need to see some piccies Micky - if we're going to be any help to you

Are they real Fenns ? It could be a product quality problem. I have a few copy 6s that deform quite badly under the spring tension when set and you really have to push to get them set. As you might imagine I don't use them. When the trap is set it should look like this - with the safety able to swing off easily.

Looking for an NGO member to do me a favour
john b replied to john b's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Thanks to SideBySide for sending me this through. I am sure the NGO won't mind my reproducing it on here. -
Now there's a surprise ..... 'Lion on the loose' was a large dog A police search launched after reports of an escaped lion was called off after the animal on the loose turned out to be a big dog, not a big cat. A full-scale operation involving a police helicopter was initiated in north Belfast when a large sandy-coloured animal was spotted prowling in a public park close to the grounds of Belfast Zoo. The Police Service of Northern Ireland received a number of reports from members of the public, all of whom had spotted what they thought was a lion in Cavehill Park in the north of

I would agree with this entirely. However from a legal point of view you might find this NGO article interesting - I quote "A Larsen trap or a crow cage has to be looked at once a day at intervals of no more than 24 hours, in other words earlier and earlier each day. On spring traps, however, the law is silent unless they are set for rabbits or for hares,in which case 'once a day' is the rule. However, under animal welfare legislation you may well be guilty of an offence if you don't check a spring trap every day because you cannot be sure that all captures will be clean kills." This is

http://news.uk.msn.com/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=9410515 <H1 class=title_normal>Lion 'on the loose in Belfast'</H1>A hunt has been launched after police received reports of a lion on the loose in a Belfast park. The animal was said to have been seen in Cavehill Park - only a short distance from the city's zoo. But police said later that keepers had checked all cages in the zoo and all the animals were accounted for. A police helicopter is scouring the area from the air and officers were deployed on the ground. A spokesman said: "We are taking this seriously, there h

It is recognised best practice to dispatch trapped animals quickly as well as humanely - ideally in situ where they have been trapped. Live catch traps have their role to play, particularly where location, mix of species and even legislation mean that kill traps are not an option.

I generally favour smaller mesh where I can as it means that any bashing about bangs against a sort of 'flat surface' rather than impacting a single bar.

Just for you Name I have fished a wasp out of the wasp trap for a comparison It's a bit worse for wear but you get the gist. The wasp is the one on the 10p.

Had this little fella come in through the window night before last

John I've just noticed the tally in your sig " JG 9 - 0 Magpies" So what do that magpies have to do to score a point then ? In one of your posts you mentioned replacing the 2x2 mesh with smaller, but liked the rigidity of the large gauge wire. One way round it is to add a layer of lightweight but smaller hole mesh over the top of what you have. Cheap and effective without the rework.

Keeping cats etc. out of MK III type crow traps
john b replied to a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I would be inclined to go for something based on smell. I don't think crows have much of a sense of smell; I don't know why I think that - it may be complete rubbish. Anyway there are lots of sent based cat repellant based on citrus and even on lion shit. Oh and I meant to say earlier - can't cats climb ? -
That book is a belter. The author is Guy. N. Smith who is most famous for his horror books but he wrote a number on ratting / rabbiting / gamekeeping after he moved to his shoot in the Black Mountains. The bit about breasting a pigeon at the back was the first time I'd ever come across that method and was worth buying for that alone. The info is fairly well known though now.

Now I know that the idea of slug traps / beer traps is not a new one and I've done the 'bury a tub in the soil and cover it' thing before. However today I discovered a twist on this which is new to me so if you guys have as many slugs as I have I thought it worth sharing. Over the weekend I knocked up a quick 'pop bottle wasp trap' to tackle a few that were buzzing about while we were having a slightly damp BBQ. This is a basic funnel trap made by cutting a bottle into two and stuffing the top back inside and you put an inch or two of water & fruit juice in the bottom. Anyway durin

This was the set up I had - a commercialy bought house but with a purpose built run attached to it. I let them roam free when I was around though. The advantage was I could move the whole thing to a new spot every now and then. Had it down on woodchip so that they could have a good scratch around. After a few months I would move it and dig out the chipping and top soil - very well manured and great compost for the garden.

Nice one JB! Did you eat your catch after? Oh yes. As I say I've not had much experience of sea fishing (well not successful) so I was surprised how much fresh fish don't smell when you're gutting them. I was all psyched up for a rabbit level pong
