English Bull Terriers
YOKEL replied to WorkingBullandTerrier's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Aye, to be fair, I've owned more American dogs than any of the other bull n terriers, but my opinion of the e.b.t wasn't formed solely on a x breed I owned nearly 30yrs ago, that would just be daft. I've seen a few individuals, all pure, that were just plain iffy to be around. But it is only my opinion, no more, no less, and if you get on with them, crack on. I had more than one American dog that you had to be on your toes around, but their working qualities were good enough and my circumstances different for me to put up with it. I s'pose I think of it like this, if you have a dog that has ye -

English Bull Terriers
YOKEL replied to WorkingBullandTerrier's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
He was started but didn't live long enough to reach any potential he may or may not have had. i had him destroyed at around the 2yr mark. he was the maniest dog I've come across, an absolute liability around anyone. couple that with the fact i was young and greener than all the fields around me, it was the right decision to make at that time... Posted this before in another section i know, but here's an e.b.t. x i owned close to thirty years ago now...an absolute b*****d of a dog. I've been around all of the bull and terrier types over the years, ebt/sbt/apbt. and i can safely say, i.m.o. ebt's were the least trustworthy of the bunch. give me a nice little staff or a good american dog any day of the week... With no wind/mouth or ability, there's no probably about it, and that's not just in this day and age. What lads/kennels in the states that don't keep Colby dogs are stating their game? Sounds more like something out of the mouths of Colby fans who possibly do nowt with the dogs other than keeping the Peds pure. I may be wrong, just my opinion.... Yokel

Indian sonny wrote a good piece on the Colby dogs a fair few years back now. Basically he states the breeders were so intent on keeping the line "pure" that the performance side of things suffered terribly. See if someone can find the article, tis an interesting read... Yokel

moonshine quit on more than one occasion, changed owners more than once and met rather gruesome end if memory serves me well. and whilst it's true scotsmans max met his demise at the hands of the R.S.P.C.A. It was his owner who handed him in, voluntarily!... Yokel

Named after jem indeed ? The dog was sired by Billy (Harrison's Wolfgang) who was out of Milo x lucy. His dam was an E.B.T. Phil's daisy (bedlamite scratch) oh, and the harness, I made that out of old broken bits and bobs, some of which were eds collars hence the rivets?... Yokel

I ran my first half in around 1hr 50. Second in 1hr 45. Then nailed a 1hr 38... anywhere under a couple of hours ain't too bad I'd say. Just to add, my first half was only the second time I'd ran any sort of distance, first being a 10k for cancer research... Yokel

George is a scouser but he's lived down here since before i was born, both his boys were/are tidy fighters but HMP has hampered any real progress....old George made the local news a few years back when three eastern european types tried to relieve him of his pension money as he left the post office...sparked two out cold and the third was last seen running for the hills! ?
