T P , this land is alongside the M 1,the foxs have a nice safe walk into the cityalong the embankments,if the weather is dry they can go under the motorway through the culverts, also ,theres a big poultry place nearby and that draws them in,this time of the year theres allways lots of dead pidgeons in the fields ,so thats another easy feed for them. set up a few fox wires mickey, my friend martin, who lives in england set up 40 fox wires , snared 9 foxes in 4 days, then snared 400 rabbits , in five days . with no fox damage whatsoever.

what do you mean all the work, there are times when the edge feature is so over grown with nettles and brambles , that you can,t set any wires , they are not always as easy as the edge that is shown in the pictures i have snared as many as 200 along easy edges as shown . so do you think that i would make runs or tell anyone else to make them , if the edge feature was void of cover , not on your life as i for one avoid unnecessary work thats not needed everytime, ive snared well over a hundred rabbits on one field that was eaten out 50 yds 300yds long , it was just eaten down to the dirt no v

the bait tube is far to small in diameter, and to pay 16 quid for a piece of plastic is robbery , when a 2 qid modified pro. victor will do a better and more humane job, on rats , stoats, squirrels , and even mice.

thats correct david, and they should be sending me a share , as it was me who promoted using it a lot of years ago.

Anything other than Speed Dip ?
snareman replied to devonlad's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
see the lads who tar the roads, the stuff that they pour between the tar joints to seal them, is similar to speed dip , and they have it in 50 gallon drums , mix it with unleaded fuel to the consistency required . -
First Mink out the new sets...
snareman replied to Foxy09's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Mk 6 Fenns all the way mate, kills em clean every time Foxy in your dreams lad, a mark six does not kill a mink , and ive trapped them a lot of years longer than you , and a hell of a lot more mink , when they get caught they head for the water , i have personally witnessed large mink getting caught in the early morning and a perfect neck strike, and still fighting a fenn mark six twenty minutes later, thats why i used drowning wires , as i said to the ministry that they had passed traps that coudn,t kill mink as they are not strong enough , and that is years of hard facts trapping aro -
kill it passing the stone , or going under the log where the piece of paper is hanging. set your wire with a ten inch loop ten high and he will be there in the morning . none of them are clever enough to outsmart a good simple snare , as none has ever outsmarted me . remember its the simplest of sets that takes the wariest of predators , and don,t bush the snare in .

why don,t you all contact defra, and alert them to the inferior trapping and snaring products that he is selling, or contact one of the national tabloids , as i,m sure they would love a good true story , about these products causing cruelty to animals . they would send in an under cover reporter , and i,m sure it would promt the authorities to take the proper action against him , and shut him down. or the lads could pay him a wee visit at the next fair where he is selling his stuff , and guess what , ask him nicely to refund your money with a bit friendly perswasion . know what i mean.

what college are you going to. its either borders college st boswells or its newton rigg did you go to college snareman yes i studied for four years many years ago but not at a keepers college . if you go to newton rig college you will learn to snare properly as i taught the two instructors , and i used to give them snares for free every season for the students . i believe some of the others are still teaching there students to set with small loops low to the ground .

these pictures are going to be a regular occurrance on tv shortly if these best snaring practices are put forward by these so called experts, as i say repeatedly set high in open and short locations at 10 inches to bottom of loop and in higher grass at 12 inches , this will cut out a lot of problems for snaremen, and very very few captures of non target species . think about it, large fox cubs out hunting by themselves are caught clean around the neck in pegged rabbit snares set in higher grass at between 9 and 10 inches to the bottom of the loop , if you catch cubs at this height . why the he

It's an I'll wind.......blew me some good though.
snareman replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
rolfe i usually avoid these tight elbow bends as the mink usuallyrun across them, better on the straights, also i found that mink usually run the left hand bank going upsteam on big rivers and good sized streams , there is one local stream that i set, ive seen me taking 9 out of one trap on the left bank going upstream and 4 from the right downward side , 13 out of two traps on the downward side of a small stone bridge, if there is more cover on one side they will always keep to this bank , if good cover on both sides the kill rate is about equal , if there happens to be an outstanding feature -

the rabbit snaring on that link is pure crap, it certainly will get woodga going. -
lovely big clean rabbits colin, well at themselves , nice bloom on their fur and nice clear eyes. do you want me to order a bus for the kill tomorrow morning , not a bullsh#t snare in sight, oops imean bullseye. could you really imagine trying to catch big winter rabbits like this , in tiny nooses set low to the ground , hope all you experts in all these field sports organisations , are looking at this , and hanging your heads in shame, at the new best practice heights of 3 inches high and silly 4 inch nooses .

the LDL,traps are extremely powerfull , more powerfull than the 120 bodygrip, the problem was that even though they are the same size as the 120bodygrip , the power in those springs are awsome theywill wipe out mink and marten easy, the trappers out there were complaining to the government that they were dangerous , to the trappers themselves , if they they slipped and fired on cold hands catching your thumbs or fingers then you could have a problem , as they could damage bones and tendons , before you got it of , and also if way out far on a trapline alone , the 120 is fine and kill big dog m

Hey Glenn - have you seen this ?
snareman replied to john b's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
ian, danny has made a mistake, its not high tensil wire thats used, just normal 2.5 mil. galvanized fenceline wire, his eyelet was slightly twistedand snare loop had a slight difficulty in resetting. anyway you forgot to say that the gentleman in question who was setting the rabbit snares in the shooting times magazine was an expert from dorset, the only good thing i can say about the article , is that he had a good chopping block.as for the snaring sequence, i would not have let him carry my snare bag, and his pegs were of the old tent peg style, -
that was some statement to make, when you told him that thay did not kill rabbits , and they said that they were for mink, there is no way that they will kill big mink if they can,t kill a rabbit, fenn traps don,t even kill mink . as i have killed enough of them to know, some of these big mink are going up to 5 to 6 1/2 lbs. therefore its time the government started to get a grip and start testing all these spring traps , as they are not humane if they can,t do the job that they are designed for. and they should be jumping all over the importers of all these jimmy wong spring and mole traps ,
