Mains Electric Fence Energiser Help
jasper65 replied to jasper65's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Nice one Lab . I had a belt off the 12v unit while set on the highest setting and boy did that give me a crack. it seems strange on this Galagher mains unit why it says 2 or more earth stakes 2/3 meters long , I have never seen them that long............ -
Just been reading the instructions for this mains Energiser and it advices to use at least two or more < 2 to 3 Meter > earth stakes, sounds alot to me expecially 3 meter long stakes? if anyone else uses a mains Energiser can you give me some advice please on your set up? on my 12v unit I just knocked in a stake about 2 foot and it was fine, why does the mains unit need such long stakes?

alot is down to the entering, some bird which have taken a large number of fur start to specialize or become wedded to that quarry above everything else. I had a female Gos which was a master on the fur but flew the game birds with no enthusiasm. it had nothing to do with fitness or confidence just that she in the past had bagged many Rabbits and probably didn't see the point in chaseing a good strong Pheasant. I finally got her entered on them flying her about a hour before dark, she was keen and a good hour over her 24hr cycle! it was also a good time of the day when the Pheasants start

If you take food to the bird on the fist or keep snatching food then expect to sooner or later get footed. the bird comes to the to fist for food not vice versa. never ever have I been footed that bad I can't remove them, turn your fist upwards encourages them to walk up to the highest point which somtimes gets them to release their grip. Most birds are footy for a reason! it could be in its rearing which had made it arsey or the way food is presented or removed, a good bird can certainly be made footy by poor handling.......

Never new anything about it PJ but it sounds to me like the guy needs outing. any peice of shit like him who rips a breeder off after all the work you have put in needs hanging out to dry . I know only too well the effort you must of put in just for him to rip you off .... to top it all off and see him in the mag would definitely be making my p*** boil, scumsters like this need naming and shaming plus a good kicking doesn't go amiss either.....

are you saying its dropped near on 13 oz's in a week and you have already found its flying weight in this time ? or have I read the post wrong and its untouched this year but been flown before and the previouse owner told you its flying weight and fat weight?

spot on shello . I hope you don't mind me just mentioning the perch. alot of the box's these days are designed like yours with a single bar perch running from one side to the other, this does the job but if the bird decides to jump down either behind the perch or infront and then manages to go underneath the perch and back over its then formed a loop around the perch with the leash, on short journeys this is fine as from the time the bird is put in the box and removed is os only a small amount of time. if the bird is being travelled in the box for a larger amount of time there is always t

I'll give you a bell after the weekend then mate! Enjoyed the wander out today Will.. also a great way to finish the day with your male nailing that Bunny after the efforts he put in, the end result was perfect . I think my Gos needs switching on ASAP to the Furry stuff, he wanted them but only half hearted at the moment but I'm certain he'll connect soon Bud when we're out, he's a bit fist bound to me at the moment and all over me like a rash but I'm sure he'll change from being a vegetarian soon .... atb Jasp

Mal! if she is well above her flying condition then a day or so without food wouldn't hurt, as you know a bird fresh out of the aviary will go a few days without food before it feeds off the fist... Must say it sounds strange unless she is plucking or flicking the casting and you havn't found them? if she needs feeding feed her enough to hold her at least steady on her 24Hr cycle with no castings. see how she goes but if she seems poorly get her up the vets.........

some birds will pass alot of chick fluff through their mutes, its not the perfect roughage for casting paterial such as feather or fur. It might be a good idea to skin the chicks and stay away from any casting for a day or so and see if she then casts up. she could be just slow casting because she is is down in condition? I have had birds go over 24hrs in the past before they cast so hopefully Mal it will al be ok mate ....

Tragic! was sat here watching it as it unfolded. Can't understand why the bike didn't slip away when it went down? for some reason it pulled him back across the track infront of the other riders . RIP Marco

You Can't fault them for gameness Craigy, them females have some awsome power in their feet Must say I rate the Redtails and would take one of these over a Harris if I had the choice. My old male would crash into cover like he was on a suicide mission, he also took on some ridiculouse long slips when he was fit ......

Pike Bit Off More Than It Could Chew
jasper65 replied to jasper65's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Mind you I have read some males are good swallowers .... -
I always have a tub of vaseline handy under the bed mate if you want some . Foot sores I gently fine spray with VIRKON after a meal to keep them clean from any bacteria, you can also stick some Iodine on them with a cotton bud if needed. this is another time when a bird made to the Hood comes in handy, lifes made alot easier if the birds a bit arsey ......

a few things I have in mine are some Iodine, I also have mixed some Iodine with some vasaline in a small tub, its handy as its stick to a wound and stays there longer, some Glucose saline is also good, a decent crop tube and a good probiotic is handy... I have antibiotics too namely Amoxycillin and some other things such as Liquid parafin, also some Thiamine for the Goshawks just incase.... just a few things off the top of my head mate, my bird first aid box is better than the one we have in doors for us ........
