Simon is a good lad and has always been a great ambassador for the sport. I doubt whether this is aimed at experienced ferreters probably more for people into some sort of field sport but have never tried ferreting. People are happy to pay three times what he is charging to shoot fukcing wood chickens flying 10 foot above their heads so what’s the big deal ......

There is f**k all meat on a day old chick it’s useless for a nursing Jill. Just feed smaller amounts of meat more times through the day and put a frozen piece in at night. Clean out in the morning and start the process again ... it’s simple really ........

Cheers mate I hadn’t seen that but confirmed my suspicions ... my billet was twice that size and without a power hammer I just couldn’t get the centre to forge tightly enough .... smaller billets later this week ???

I had a couple of hours spare today so I decided to try forge welding a knife out of old chainsaw chains which I had cut into 5 inch pieces ..... Welded them together in 2 stacks of 9 pieces then welded the two stacks together to make a nice billet so burned off all the oils and impurities then spent the next couple of cycles fluxing the billet Before forging it out ... I got plenty of heat into it and I felt as though it had all come together well. But when I ground it down although the pattern was real nice I could see there were to many cracks through the billet.
