Thanks.kinda,if you leave a couple of inches at the end and cover it in mesh then the piss and most of the shite falls through, ill put some pics up tomorrow of it..yeah i agree with the lads above, weld mesh is a much better option, much stronger and lasts longer.

agree with the lads above.4z is a waist of time in any net in my opinion.6z and up,snag less and are alot easier to remove rabbits from.
-
Just to give you an idea of what im on about, building my own at the moment too.

fair play pal, nice bit of work there..if you make a ramp between top and bottom and have it hinged so you can join the top and bottom.when you want to separate the two levels you just lift the ramp and lock it, youve got a double hutch then. Good job tho

yeah, prepair yourself for a nose burning when its cleaning time..i give mine a bit of cod liver oil now and then mixed with scrambled egg.gives them the same nutrients without the smell

ARE ALL FERRET KITS BORN WITH BLACK EYES
kinderbeano replied to Jake w's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
albinos have no melanin in there bodys atall (same stuff that makes our skin tan).there born without this pigment so they will never have dark eyes..dark eyed whites are leucistic though meaning they only have a lack or pigment so they have normal dark eyes, the tiny bit of pigment they have also means they stay whiter as there fur dosent bleach yellow in sunlight.. -
ill remove stomach and intestines from rabbits, everything else is left in for extra vitamins and minerals.birds get plucked before the ferrets get them just because it makes a mess in the hutch if i dont.. i think feeding fur can help keep worms down as they get knotted in it and are then passed with the consumed fur..i know of greyhound trainers that will feed the odd bit of mutten with wool still on to dogs to keep worms at bay.sounds like it could work but dont know if theres any science to back it up with.

will the wet weather have had any affect this year?
kinderbeano replied to jimster68's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
i agree with '28xxgeo' .depends on how well drained your ground is..land drains well around me and rabbits have exploded this year..myxi is starting to show now tho but that could be down to more numbers of rabbits = more oppertunity for disease. -
my jills go NUTS for liver..get a whole cows liver off the butcher for 2 quid, lasts ages if u bag it and freeze

net them with the coursing club over here, its well regulated by the NSPW and holding pens, welfare of animals are inspected etc...we use gate nets and cover any gap in the ditches we find allond with gates obviously, nets have a wider mesh than rabbit long nets, are higher and should be a strong grade(4oz,6 oz can damage the hairs toes)..use a line of beaters and have a man on each net well hiden..watch ur fingers tho,the buggers give a nasty bite and can give a decent cut with the claws when ur getting them out.

the lands about 2 hours drive away from me so it wudnt be that easy,im finished ferreting for the year now anyway ......apparently the ferrets have been hanging round the sheds stealing the cats and dogs food and rooting in bins..im more curious about how often this happens and how it effects the wildlife,i cant see the domestic ferrets doing too well but theres always a chance.there are places were feral ferrets are quite common afterall.

resently heard of a land owner who had a big problem with rabbits.in an attempt to "solve" the problem he bought 15 or so ferrets and just released them ,i just find this wrong on so many levels, obviously the crulty to the domestic ferrets being released but this is how problems accour similar to the mink problem.has anyone got any experience or this or heard of it happening eslewhere?.i was going to offer to ferret the area for the man but i wouldnt trust puting my jills to ground with that many feral animals around.needless to say the rabbit problem is still as bad as it ever was.

unusual rabbit and bitten by one for the first time ever
kinderbeano replied to polecat84's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
makes it more intresting ferreting where domestic rabbits have escaped and bread with the wild population.u never know what colour will bold..they do seem to giv up the chase with the dogs a lot easier tho..wudnt mind catchin a few angora rabbits, make a nice new hat -
It's not always a case of a ferret lying up though is it? The bit below was a reply I put on another thread about" digging or not digging". They don't always bolt mate. Have you read this thread? http://www.thehuntin...-day-ferreting/ Sometimes not digging isn't an option, the above won't be the first time a ferret has got caught on the wrong side of rabbits in a stop end. Imagine this scenario, a jill has got a ferret bottled up in a stop end, she works away at it and eventually manages to get over it and ends up in the stop end. Another rabbit or rabbits appear and press up a

out with a friend shooting pigeons over stubble a few days ago. the shooting was going well and we had plenty of shot birds and shell decoys out..i had noticed a female kestrel hunting near by and even with all the gun shots she started to take an intrest in our decoys, after making 2 or 3 passes she dove straight in for a kill, only to find her dinner was made of plastic, she sat there scratching and pecking the decoy.realy wish i had a video camera with me,was really amazing to see..just wondering if anyone else had anything strange or intresting like this happen while out shooting pigeons
