thanks guys(and girls).ye iv been talking to people around my area about what they think has the number of rabbits so low this year and this 'chinese hemmeraging' or R.H.D keeps coming up.like brimmer says people have found rabbits dead without a scratch on them or any sighn of mixi atall..if this is what effecting them then its hit hard because wev never seen such a scarcity of rabbits before.best bag i'v had this year is 2.the wet summer has probably effected them too but we hav had summers weter than this and rabbits still bred well.i jst cant get my head round it.. im in S.E ireland by th

im having much the same problem.was out last week early to a 12 holer that i know has rabbits in it becaus the garden it is in is ruined by them.put the first ferret down and she stayed down for about 20 muinits and then she just started runing from one hole to another.i could tell she was onto something but we gave two or three hours nearly without even hearing any thumping..any ideas anyone?i think there not working deep enough as iv had this problem before.bearing in mind it was bout -1 out that morning if that would effect them much.

i couldnt imagine a better day out or a nicer setting.looks a cracking morning, great photos 2 well done

ah i see.i was presuming it was just rod and line sorry.there hasnt been legal neting on the nore in years.not including the poaching tho.the clubs are very much into concervation on the river.we wouldnt have the stocks to be neting anyway,it would decamate the numbers. as for the lime, that was a joke ha
-
hold on now,are these numbers for sea-trout or salmon ?cus if its salmon then wtf we doin wrong over here? ..our best anglers mite get 20-40 salmon in a good year on the river nore but it has been declining in recent years.fingers crossed stocks will come back up with the end of driftneting and all the work on the spawning grounds..1000 fish tho thats a bag of lime and a big net job lol.

Taking Rabbits From There Burrows
kinderbeano replied to hunter08's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i was always told that snaring outside a burrow was 'less effective' as the rabbits are most weary coming out of the burrow and creep out slowly.where as when you set a snare on the hop the rabbit is on the move and less weary of disturbances on it path than outside its burrow.dont take that as gospel tho,its just how i was thought to snare. i gta agree with jbswildlife, best and most enjoyable way to catch rabbits in burrows is always guna be ferrets -
thanks for that ..the cage and bob wires one looks like a pretty simply disighn, mite try knock one of them up..what could you bate it with?would a decoy and grain work? some well made traps there too lads fairplaay
