Something to remember is that it easy to make a gun fit in the shop. as you continue to adjust the gun into the shoulder. the gun should slot into possition swiftly and be on target first time everytime. Which is what I said

Ok, accepted, but buy a cheap scope, see what it does for you. It's a 10/1 chance that you may get a good one. When it/if it doesn't work, or you feel you need more, , buy better. All shooters need to know the difference

Probably just the Ayatollah giving out a subliminal message encoded in general posts here

Pick up and point as many guns as possible. When you find the one that is right you will suddenly realise what it was all about. What ever you do don't struggle with a named gun that doesn't fit right because someone says it's a better gun than your choice. We all talk about gun fit but untill you find one that slides into position like an extension to the arm, doesn't need aiming, and becomes a natural function you will fail to understand

My favourite/2nd/last shotgun was a Laurona with a double trigger, but with a difference. I may get this the wrong way round as it has been a while but the front trigger fires the top barrel first and the bottom barrel second. The back trigger does it the opposite way round. I really liked this, no need to switch triggers in a panic, and the safety is left as a stand alone doing just that

Warm, still summer/autumn evening. Stay 'till you can no longer see to shoot and always leave a few untouched dead 'uns where they drop. Shot more than a few foxes with one of "my" rabbits accross it's jaws

Nothing at all wrong with a Baikal for a 1st gun, buy 2nd hand you'll lose little when you trade up. Too rusty on prices to comment on that. Make sure the gun fits, you and feels right, far more important that which model for a new starter

In my experience, yes it will. Whether it's to do will muzzle kick or the gases disturbing the projectile in the mod I don't know. I always zero with the mod on and after cleaning it.

You will also not get a .22 rimmy if you state you want it for fox, (nor a .17hmr in most areas), even tho' it's more than adequate at short range in the right hands. The 2 are really chalk and cheese but from my perspective you need both. The major advantage of the .22 is the lack of noise as Mr Logic has suggested, alot more neighbour friendly. but it's lack of apparent power due to low noise can cause much carelessness in a novices hand

Help with thugs and the LAW

Sporting age, apologies I didn't make my self clear, none of what I said was aimed at you, merely a comment of how difficult it is to remain within peoples conception of what it is legal to do with a gun let alone what can go wrong if you use the weapon as a threat. Some people will turn the opposite way if they see a man with a gun, and some will file a report if you shoot within 400yds of their boundary etc. My example of the copper waiting for me to return to my car is a classic example of how lawful firearm users are viewed. Again no offence intended at all -

TSA - thanks for your............ No problem. The Act, as with all similar is bloody lengthy although there are bits to be found online. If you PM me specific questions I will try and answer them, or at least give you an idea of which sections of the Act are rellevent so you can look them up. ATB Just a link to any of the pace act would be great, i'm sure i'll spend hours reading through it and trying to make sence of it all! And after a £10,000 operation involving the chopper the scum probably got a suspended sentence A pair of good Dobermans would have s -

It's good when things work out right tho'. I recall a good few years back some friends of our's received a call from a farmer down the lane from them. Were they moving out? He'd been hedging down the lane for a good few hours and had seen a transit loading stuff from their place. They raced home from work and found the tractor blocking off the only way out of the lane and the police chopper had rounded up the the turds -

I think the vast majority of us realise that to raise any weapon in retaliation/defence will do no good at all.. The 4 x 2 comment made me chuckle. Many years ago my bro in law had one of the early golf GTI's. Highly sought after by the underclass. His mate across the road came home very late one night and saw a couple of guys in the drive. He parked up then belted across the street armed with a length of 4x2. Inspite of many blows to the back and shoulders of the kid who leapt out of the car, he kept on going with the radio cradled in his arms. What are they on??? -

I can understand your frustration Mr Logic but I'm afraid thats the way it is. And in general it's the best safest way for all. The British system for firearms authorisation is designed purely for sport/control. Self protection or protection of property cannot ever be an option. If you or anyone else wants an example of how things can go wrong when you (me) stand up and defend yourself in such circumstances, PM me and I will explain. But yes it does make you F***ing mad -

Does anyone know the regs regarding the "land mine" thing? Also to add, through a friend in the force I found out after the Tony Martin issue that the guy he killed was one of those knoun/souspected as having carried out a string of burglaries, including my garage, in our area a while before. I wouldn't have pulled the trigger, but I had little sympathy -

All the best advice has been given, never threaten anyone with any weapon. I once watched two prats keying my car halfway down a country lane. Trouble is I was watching them from 200 yds away through the scope in near dark. I did resist, but oh the temptation. Had I had the shotdgun with me I would have cracked on into the air just to disturb them, but a moderated .22 doesn't have the same effect. Back on subject what is the legal situation with regards to using one of those 12g blank firing trip wire jobbies in such a situation? Would scare the shit out of any intruder and bring out a -
has any one got a pic of one please and whats best to put on my hmr when i get it Most would I think advise the same mod unless you want to spend 3x or more for little improvement

Hmmm, all a bit worrying then when I suspect the major reason for most people taking out membership of any of these organisations is for the insurance protection. The advice received "claim of your house/life insurance "escapes me in context of most of the things that can go wrong in shooting but I don't wish to pry into that one. Happy New Year

Problems winchester? The nice people on the phone seemed just that, the mag gives the right blurb, what went wrong for you?

How much does your UNLOADED rifle weigh?

I thought it a little optomistic, but even at 8lb it's still a lightweight, nice -
Just becarefull "borrowing" ammo. If you are caught with more in your possesion than you are allowed, or have bought, you and your mate could technically fall foul Just seen you are in Oz so may not apply, does over here tho'

You are doing right in keeping well away at train times, it only takes one uninformed person on a train to make a phone call and the helicopter will be up. Even if you are a few hundred yards away hide the rifle when the train goes by. One of my areas is boundered by the MI for about a mile. The footpath runs along the motorway boundary so I often walked the route with the gun over the shoulder, untill the day that a patrol car all lights/sirens blaring screeched to a halt at the top of the embankment. They were fine with me, some do gooder passing by on the motorway had reported someone with
