  1. i have been recommended falcon actually and it looks pretty good. i also havnt heard a bad thing about them but have heard a few bad things about MTC. so with the turrets on the falcon you can adjust elevation without adjusting the zero? how exactly does it work? regards, jack You are still altering zero but it is finger adjustable and easy to return to zero I bought one of the early phillipino Tascos. You got a set of different turret tops for elevation. One was garduated for .223. 1 for 243 etc. They also supplied 1 blank that you scratched your own range marking to suit your gun
  2. Seconded, don't give reasons just ask. I don't think it matters whether on 1 line or 2. Just make it clear what you are applying for. The cert will clearly state how many guns, what type, and the number of mods allowed
  3. At this time of year I would 2nd fieldfares too
  4. And your nuts, Merry xmas to one and all, happy hunting
  5. And neither have I, but you do get in the habit of range finding, checking the turret and then shooting so it is unlikely to happen,
  6. Ebay item 290281801968 . Simmons sight. What do you reckon. paid 25quid more than I wanted but the rewiews were good, and I think I'm pleased. Will be more pleased if you guys say I haven't wasted a wad of dosh.
  7. where abouts in chesterfield i live about 2miles away i will have them pm, with details PM sent mate No reply received so boing
  8. I've always bought scopes with target turrets, even some of these have had mildot reticles but I dial in the distance for all planned shots. Something satisfying about rangefinding, setting the elevation and then popping dead centre. I would never use dialled in windage tho', to easy to lose true zero. Mildots may come in handy here but it's still down to estimation.
  9. I once made a big mistake on a piece of land that no one had been allowed to shoot over for years. It was the best bit of rabbiting ground in the county. When the farm eventually changed hands and was split up I was at the auction and got the owners details and their permissions within a few days. I was the only person given permission I shot probably 20 a day for the 1st few months, shooting on average 6 evenings a week. This was spring. The mistake I made was "saving a few" for later. They decimated all the crop fields of the farmer who bought the main farm and after defra, or whatever the
  10. I had real problems when I last bought a shotgun, but I'm tall with very long arms and almost everything was too short and too high in the stock. Mates had brownings, berretta etc and I was looking for similar. Must have tried hundreds new and 2nd hand in about 6 different dealers. I eventually picked up a 2nd hand Laurona sporting multichoke, it fit like a glove and I could shoot that gun better than anything else I tried before or after. Also for me the width of the rib was important, I hate wide ribs, the Laurona was only 6mm. It is a very personnal thing
  11. The recorded bit is important, people have been chastised for sending it ordinary mail. Also don't know if this works elsewhere but Derbyshire Police accept a single notification from a RFD provided it is from within the county, leaving you nothing to do.
  12. I hope it was the cross bow thing Deker, I'm sure it's the most likely. We are all on tender hooks about this one, bad news gets about and this sort of thing can damage all our chances. Good luck

  14. Din't sell but these are too good to confined to the shed, still available.
  15. Amen to that Yep, thats I was feeling, but have never been tempted to turn down to lower mag except at point of darkness. Could be a bit like the rock scene analogy, you know, Marshall amps that go up to 11
  16. Used a 6 - 24 x 40 on my .22 for years with no issues. Ok no great shakes for lamping , but I didn't do much? Never felt over scoped. Just set up with a .22 and .17hmr and gone for a 3 -12 x 40 for the .22, and a 4 - 16 x 40 for the hmr. I did buy a 6 - 24 x 44 but found it over balanced both rifles, so it's gone.
  17. Or buy a cheaper shelfless cabinet and an ex MOD ammo box for a £5r?
  18. Yes the effect is considerable with the HMR at long range but the .22 suffers equally as badly at probably 2/3 the range, not calculated, just IMHO.
  19. Ok so quite a lot of folks agreeing here? Anyone stand up in favour of hv stuff?
  20. 'tas been said but still correct I never tell anyone what I've shot. so....................
  21. Couple of things; I just got back into shooting after a few years lay off. No problems reapplying inspite of the Force having lost all records of my previous licences What I wanted was .22 and .17hmr, which I got, what I was suprised at was the way I was actually pushed towrds a .223 to partner the hmr. But then again I am a little older than the op. The other point was something that happened a few years back when I was rabbit shooting on holiday up in Scotland. Never have I seen such a high density of rabbits in one area. 2 of us had shot over a hundred in the 1st hour and it started t
  22. Sorry and apologies if this offends anyone, it isn't intended to do so, BUT, I knew if I bought a Sako Quad sooner or later I too would have been in this position, To be honest although the principle is sound, if you can afford 2 guns then buy 2 guns and avoid all the hassle of swapping? The answer may well be to own 2 Sako Quads
  23. Hollow Point every time...and they all have plenty of "punch"...problem is High Velocity .22LR are NOT accurate!!! I bought 200 CCI Stingers, were supposed to be the highest velocity available at the time, think they were HP too, however after sighting in the only time I ever used them was when I wanted to make a bit of noise to let folks know I was out there. I think I took over 150 back to the dealer eventually
