  1. Get a sense of humour mate, you know, adult content?, posing pouches?..................Ok I give up
  2. I'm dissapointed, I expected more when I clicked on "pouches"
  3. Ebay Item number: 160301950839 Brand new pair of Burris Zee Rings, medium height, 1" scope, nickel/stainless steel finish. These are super solid mounts. Should have posted here before, sorry, but never thought. Anyway they come up on Sunday. If not sold will deal after auction end at listed price. Located in Chesterfield
  4. 22lr mate - not gonna bother with an HMR, think I'll hack out the 22 for a while and then get myself on the centrefires. Best of luck with it bud - mine was an extreme case, everything that could have gone wrong did, I'm sure you'll be fine! Trust me when you've used the .22 for some time you'll not want to be without one, it'll be case of the CF as well as
  5. Once I saw that rifle I fell in love with it. (and bought it). It probably won't do any better than the rest, but read the reviews *****, But it may be £200 up from some others, but only you can value that
  6. My FEO said about 5 days, dissapointed, it took 6 Won't take long, most forces have targets, say 30 days from 1st enquiry to verdict To br honest I would have applied for both, it's so much easier that having to apply for a variation afterwards. Don't underate the .22, it kills more meat than any other calibre, and has the versatility of being near silent. I went for the Savage 93 Mk11 HMR with thumbhole stock, what a beaut, should be on the short list. Also, for a 1st gun why not buy 2nd hand, loads of HMRs about, and yes the wind is the issue
  7. being as i can only look at rifles atm, i like the look of the cz 'style' (nickle barrel, synthetic stock) looks like it could take a fair bit of outdoor abuse, and being as you all recomend cz's, anyone got a 'style'? Get a 2nd hand Ruger 77/22 synthetic, you know it makes sense Rodney
  8. Cheepskates Ok tongue in cheek, but, imagine you would only ever buy one gun???. . . . . . . . . . .. yeah, OK, CZ
  9. You got 'im, any views?, did a cracking job on my gun, but wasted a day,
  10. Know what you're saying woz, But found an "old boy" locally. Ex Rolls Royce engineer and he is/was an FRD. Recomended to me by my local gunstore/smithy. Based in Derby and charged me £30 to thread and recrown. Details provided to anyone interested At that sort of money and "quality" I am prepared to travel a long way, details would be appreciated! Many thanks!! Email sent

  12. Just to show there's always one I had a BRNO (CZ) as my first rimfire. Replaced that with a Ruger 77/22 all weather because I prefered the mag and wanted all weather stainless. Have just set up again and after handling the CZ range I felt I would still be happiest with another Ruger so went for the fancy VBZ matt stainless/laminated model with 24" barrel. There was no difference in accuracy between the 2, I am definately the "limiting" factor
  13. Anyone who would think you a fool is the fool themselves It's always much better to ask plenty of questions before you apply for anything like this There's really really no need to apologise, we all started somewhere. Some were fortunate to have family and friends to show them the ropes, others aren't, that's the great thing about forums, the information and community they provide for us all
  14. As said, what price to get a .22 done, actually any other calibre I would expect. (slightly ulterior motive as I have just had mine done so may have a good contact or have been ripped off)
  15. Re your comments about the river bank; I take it this is angling?, my other passion. The big issue comes along when compared to catching a 10lb chub or a 2lb dace, you are never going to get a 4foot bunny or a 3stone fox, get my drift?, it's a numbers or skill game, not targetting a single specemin. I'm sure someone knows what I'm ramblin' on about. Take the advise given, it's good.
  16. Just a few thoughts young fella, You have age on your side but in terms of obtaining an FAC that can work against you, ie, age can indicate experience or sensibility, (clearly doesn't apply in my case as I am 55, not senile, just decidedly juvenile). I applied for my 1st licences at age 30. I'd had at least 1 air rifle at anyone time since the age of 10. Also had a No3 and .410 shotgun as there was no licence in those days. Anyway I thought the best way into an FAC was to apply for a SC 1st, much easier and difficult to refuse if you have a good record. A year later I applied for
  17. I have the HMR and the .22. Just getting started after a lay off but, 10 years ago there was nothing to challenge the subsonic .22 rimfire, best bunny basher you could wish for. This gun will teach you an almighty amount about fieldcraft, ballistics etc, I bought an HMR because it gives a taste of centre fire performance on small vermin, and it is reconned to be a fair bit safer due to reduced ricochets? Shooting in the garden? depends if you have a "provisional" or closed license, or if you have an open one. With an open one it is down to you where you shoot, be that vyour back gard
  18. I'd put your query in the main rimfire, centrefire shotgun section. Should get a better viewing there. Are you totally aware of the legallities in this situation. Hope I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs. If everything is totally above board I'd take them to a known gunshop and ask for a valuation, not a purchase offer mind.
  19. I recently took out my FAC after about a 10 year break from shooting. I too wanted a .22, which I had before, and a .17hmr which wasn't around before. I had 2 sound mods put on the ticket. I'll tell you what I did but please don't ask how they shoot because I have yet to get scope rings/mounts etc sorted, plus the .22 came non threaded so thats away at the moment. I think my set up came in at about the same cost as you are looking at in total inc sights, slips, etc. For the .22 I got the Ruger 77/22 VBZ laminated stock 24" matt stainless varmint barrel. Had the alweather synthetic model b
  20. I agree that it could be poachers, and the crossbow is a hot favourite, what actually killed the beast does need to be determined for the sake of all involved. The one saving grace is that most farmers I've met are happier to have one trusted gun on thier land than none at all, if no one has shooting rights and the land is not "policed" it can become a free for all. Knowing there may be a guy with a gun about is a fair deterrant. Hope your man can realise that Dekker
  21. I was thinking along the same lines, if it was shot with the 12g, well thats fairly obvious, but could it have been done with a crossbow, similar entry wound to a non penetrating rifle shot ???? just a thought
  22. That's everyones worse nightmare mate, you do every thing right and someone screws it up for you. To add my experience 15 years back we went to shoot a farm we'd been on for a few years and the farmer had bolted the gates. Seems like some guys, (he didn't know who as he let anyone on), had been pigeon shooting a few days before and had severed his phone line. Something critical had happened and he wasn't contactable. He never let anyone shoot again. On the other hand I nearly did something similar myself, but not as spectacular, a few years ago. I was lamping a month old corn field when I
  23. If i met up with the boys i shoot with and had this with me i'm sure they would take the piss out of me big time! we go out to hunt not show each other our guns lol. Believe me you can spend an awrfull lot of money and still have it look crap. Back in 1991 I wanted a field rifle. Went to Steve Wilkins at Ripley Rifles, only 5 miles from me. I paid £750 for the AR4 action alone ie no stock, but it was exactly to my spec, extended reservoir etc etc. I/he put a 2nd quality sporter stock on it and ended up with a superbly accurate hunting gun that could be used in the field without fe
  24. Thats the thing about .22 rimfire, especially low velocity subs, they do get blown about by any strong wind. Do as has been said and set up on a still day to get your absolute zero. The rest is then down to experience, but that is the attraction of the .22 for me, you have to apply the skills you've learnt, ie, you may have to offset the shot 2 or 3" windward at say 70yds in a stiff breeze. Believe me thats much more satisfying than the same shot in dead still conditions. Don't worry you will get the knack but like lots of things in shooting it is about estimation and as such not an exact
