Yeah, lead, shoot a ball bearing, a stone and a .44 lead shot at a wall, the ball bearing and the stone will bounce off, taking most
of there force off with them, the lead will transfer nearly all the force, and drop to the ground.
Being sorta new to the working dog world (4 years) I never really understood this saying, and would often
sneak up on various lazy fat pet dogs I've owned over the years, and give them a start while they slept
But when your dog has made a valiant effort for you the night before, and is lying there the next day sleeping
it off, the last thing you want to do is wake him for no real reason, and give him a bit of respect and let him ly.
So finally I understand the saying.
There must be a few more hunting related sayings, anyone know any ?

Yet no heats run for a while ?
I don't think its looking like this comp is going to be run before xmas, what do others think ?
I must admit I'm not that bothered by the xmas deadline being missed, but was wondering if it will affect the ground the finals to be run on ?
Do you boys have nothing planned yet then mate ?
Because if Stuboi is dropping out, I have some one off here
in the south willing to stand in, as Stuboi hasn't run a heat yet ?
I was once sat in a round flower bed having a smoke with friends and a stoat chased a rabbit about 4 times round thee flower bed then both shot of into the undergrowth. Used to see a lot working at windsor great park.
You've had some good advice in this thread, some silly stuff to lol.
I've a farmer like that that owns fields on 3 sides of my property, and
after 9 years, he is starting to soften
If its your door step, its always worth biting your tongue.
Here's where we are at down here, hopefully the lads involved in the heats will let us know whats happening, and maybe let us know a bit more about the night they ran and drew ?
