Never seen a lurcher herd sheep. So maybe as a hunting dog, you are right, but as a working dog, I would have to put the collie first as the best dog in the countryside.
Have good numbers of both around here, and grass snakes, adders and not so common, but present are smooth snakes.
Mainly on and around the heaths here in surrey.

I dont think they are earwig eggs, as they are in a sort of toad spawn string, maybe a bigger beetles eggs ?
Woods normal, if cut late winter, theres enough sap in the wood for the buds to grow come spring.
