  1. I'm sure there are many internet scholars that will argue the semantics of what is, and isn't, flight. For the purpose of this discussion it's assumed that the shot would be similar to something usually left for the sporting shotgun.
  2. No I wouldn't take a shot a flying bird. Air rifles aren't suitable for such pursuits and anyone not familiar with the dangers of such shots shouldn't be in possession of an air rifle.
  3. Whatever your views are on this subject it clearly appears that we're the only forum that will tackle such an issue. Your mainstream airgun press certainly won't but is that a good thing or a bad thing? In another thread people are complaining at how sanitised the airgun magazines are but this is clearly a real time issue that many people have taken the time to consider and comment upon. The biggest mistake the foxhunters made was burying their head in the sand when it came to tackling the problems, inside their own sport. They refused to accept an alternative view point and refused t
  4. Are you suggesting that the dog forums are full of liars and messers?
  5. Agreed here too. People have said they can do it but the accuracy and frequency at which they can do it is embellished at best. f*****g downright lies most likely. In the interests of openness this thread has stayed up but we're seeing a marked increased in threads that challenge what is currently our restricted sport. Shooting unsuitable quarry and now flying targets with air guns. It's reckless. It's impulsive. It's dangerous but, in 2009, what are the motives behind discussing it on a public airgun forum?
  6. I agree with you but it's not my poll. My answer would be 3. As that option isn't in the original poll I haven't voted in the original poll.
  7. Can't argue with that but like I said who's trying to reinvent the wheel, and for what purpose? Also who's accurate enough to guarantee a clean humane kill?
  8. The legality is tied up with the old time game laws. This means no poaching. This means no night shooting. (An hour before dusk, and an hour after sunrise) This means no lamping. This means not on a Sunday. No law says you can't use an air rifle though, providing it's up to the job. We're after humane kills not death by lead poisoning. I'm not going to say which air rifle is suitable. I'm going to say are you a good enough shooter? It's the finger that pulls the trigger in most cases, if you can't put it down in one shot you shouldn't be shooting at it.
  9. With polls and threads like this it gives people an attempt to justify why an air rifle would be a better tool than a shotgun. If anything it should serve as a resource as to why it's not suitable. We did this with foxes. We gave people an opportunity to say why air rifles for right for the job. So here we can see the justifications for air rifle on flying targets. For the record I think shooting flying targets is dead wrong, and plain f*****g dangerous, but I'm curious as to why some think it's right. Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel? Simply being here is enough ammunition
  10. You must be joking? They're all too busy fighting with each other, on the forums, to do any real pest control!
  11. Or anywhere your pellets can leave your shooting permission...
  12. This is a double edged sword though... we're trying to promote airgunning so stories would have to reflect that. The airgun magazines know that anti shooting pressure groups read their articles and try and use them to further restrict shooting. This is why they appear to have become more sanitised over the years. It's caused alot of comments to be made, that people are going soft, but it's all to do with protecting the sport for as long as they can. A similar policy would have to be adopted here. Shooting stories are fine. So are pictures of dead quarry, techniques, tips etc. But stori
  13. In wouldn't take shots at flying quarry purely for safety reasons. With an air rifle anyway. First of all I have an FAC rifle. Secondly is accuracy. Thirdly is some of the areas I shoot in. My personal opinion is that it's risky, at best. I was always told to know where my backstop is. You can't do that if you're shooting at the sky.
  14. Don't vote for these idiots. Either for or against. You just encourage them next year. These TV companies make millions on the TV voting. All the contestants look like c**ts. Might be better if he stays on for as long as possible.
  15. The best way to beat paying for airgun magazines is to write your own stories and PM them to me! What we can do then is lock them in another forum and it could be a huge resource of hunting stories. We have an FAQ's forum and rifle review forum, I'm sure we could get one for articles if I ask the boss nicely? What do you reckon to that? I've not read a hunting magazine in years, but I do read this forum several times a week! See where I'm going? There are far more interesting hunting stories here and they're all free
  16. There is no better calibre for hunting. It's about shot placement.
  17. The biggest surprise, to me, in this thread was the word 'going' to ratshit. It' went to ratshit a long time ago and it's not coming back any time soon.
  18. For under 300 quid? I'm still stunned even though 2 others have already said it!
  19. Well you could argue that line breeding, with regard to Edward, hasn't got rid of the aggression issues.
  20. John's had a nice chat with someone via PM... it appears this thread was either 1) not read, or 2) not understood, as the subject cropped up again. John was feeling pretty lenient this Christmas and the offender got away with a smacked arse... Next one get's deleted. I promise.
  21. Put enough details on the forum and I'll see if I can clear it with the big man... I've been here for years and you're the first to mention compiling data for airgun clubs.
  22. Sciurus carolinensis and Rattus norvegicus.
  23. Open chat in another window.
  24. Yeah just read the airgun section when the kids start talking about fox control.
