  1. Depends. What sort of condition is it in and what power is it putting out? Same with me. Learning to shoot with a springer will make you a better marksman as you have to contend with recoil. Depending on the rifle you may have to make your one shot count so you pay more attention to fieldcraft. The great thing is that you never ever have to refill a springer, it'll never leak, and you'll never have to carry a pump or a diving bottle. The PCP on the other hand has saved my bacon on numerous occasions. Having multishot capability makes them serious pest control tools in the right hands
  2. Playing Devil's Advocate here. Why would you want to build artificial earths as part of a pest control program? If you're interested in sporting purposes, or conservation, sure but pest control? Surely if you're trying to eradicate a pest species you need to remove their harbourage? For the record, I have nothing against artificial earths but I don't see how it's relevant to a long term pest control program. Maybe this would be better suited to the terrierwork forum or the game keeping section?
  3. Nothing lasts for life but if you want something low maintenance and with decent longevity buy a springer. S200's are great rifles, with great engineering, but the costs are kept down with plastic bolts and plastic triggers. Changing these ups the cost of the rifle. I'm not saying don't get a PCP but if you want something to hand down to your kids get a decent springer.
  4. Yeah but the law kinda says that you do have to know... Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
  5. You can pay thirty quid for a Chinese air rifle. If you're lucky you'll get one that can do close to 12ft/lbs. If you're average you'll get one that does 8. No amount of extra cash on tuning is going to make it any better as you can't polish a turd. You can pay two hundred for a decent German air rifle. It'll give consistency because it's made with better components and machined to specific tolerances. Chinese air rifles tend to built by Chinese convicts, in the Chinese prison system. German rifles tend to be built by decent engineers, in decent factories, with decent equipment. With an FA
  6. First of all, if your gun is capable of going over the limit with any pellet it needs an FAC or a detune. Secondly, we're assuming the guy, in this article, didn't know he had an illegal firearm. He may well have done and was riding his luck in court. The point is that it's the owners responsibility to know the power of their guns and this makes the most concise case, I've ever read, for owning a chronograph as part of your shooting set up. Whatever the reasons they had for seizing his guns, thirty five quid for a chronograph doesn't sound like such a bad investment now, does it?
  7. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable handling all your personal information. That's why it's your personal information. I don't doubt the integrity of anyone, here, it's just that I really don't want to be in a position where I may have to divulge this information in the future. i.e in court. "Mr Jones. This 13 year old found out how to make an illegal firearm from your forum. How exactly do you assess your members?" There is no problem discussing FAC, we already have a several other shooting forums. The reason we don't have tuning info is that we have enough people here, with hid
  8. I've bought a few over the years. It's amazing how a pocket sized chronograph can work in your favour. Firstly you can tell if it's legal. Secondly you can usually work out a huge reduction if it isn't.
  9. Don't think so... even if there is it's much higher than here. Depends on the manufacturer but generally higher priced, means higher spec and usually better components.
  10. Any pump or diving bottle will have a pressure gauge on it. Don't buy one that hasn't. The pressure of the rifle will vary depending on which one you get but make sure you find out what it is for your rifle. Most are around 180bar. As for damaging the gun... it's possible but you're more likely to damage the rubber seals, by over filling. They're designed to fail when the pressure gets too high. This stops you dying or having to pick lumps of metal out of your face. Don't ever f*ck around with compressed air. You'll have a bomb in your possession. As it stands British law doesn't r
  11. I'll try this analogy if it helps. You can buy a Ferrari, a Land Rover, a second hand Ford Escort or even a Jaguar E-Type. But you can only legally travel 70mph on British motorways. Does that make sense?
  12. No need for this thread then? You could always ask in the Logun thread or start a new one. You'll miss a chunk of readers if you're asking about a Logun in a thread titled Air Arms S200
  13. If you want to talk FAC's feel free but no tuning information to be posted. It's fine to ask if it can be done but if anyone actually explains how it'll be removed. There is no way of verifying who has an FAC, and I wouldn't even attempt to invade anyone's privacy by trying to set up some system requiring people to register their personal details. If the BBS are happy with you discussing/posting detailed tuning information, then feel free to head that way and source the info. I just ask that you don't reproduce here as I'll remove it. Sorry you feel that way Beagles. I read y
  14. Reading between the lines. He bought an over powered air rifle and either through choice or ignorance decided not to chronograph it and/or lower the power. An air rifle over 12ft/lbs requires an FAC even if it's 12.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 1ft/lbs. The article has been written for the benefit of people that don't know much, or anything, about air rifles. That's why it says 'filled with gas.' If anyone reading this thread is new to shooting, or thinking of buying a second hand rifle, memorise this if nothing else. "It is n
  15. Disagreement is fine. It's when these threads turn into multipage slanging matches. Despite numerous requests for peace, discussions and negotiations people don't read and go wading in. Talk doesn't work so action has to. I don't see the problem. Everyone plays nice and thread reopens.
  16. There's been alot of questioning, recently, about how rules aren't getting enforced on the forum. Not here so much but THL in general. As this is the airgun forum, and my personal manor, I will inflict swift and brutal justice to anyone that appears to be dissing our homies... This means if you want to argue f*ck off to another section or I will metaphorically stick a cap in yo ass See the way Uncle Chris is down wit da kidz? There's not enough love here and that needs to be sorted.
  17. If it's threaded to ½ inch UNF then you've got the biggest selection of silencers available. Look at Logun.
  18. Re-read the last post. It's been nipped in the bud before it turns into a clusterfuck. This way everyone gets the chance to calm down before turning the thread into argu-a-thon. I'll unlock it later and if it kicks of again it will disappear for ever.
  19. An old one but a good one.
  20. Depends on condition. Your idea of good condition will differ from mine and without pictures I wouldn't even begin to attach figures to the post. As a rule most gun shops won't give more than 60% of the original price, and that's on a mint condition rifle that they've seen in the flesh. It should give you a rule of thumb but times are hard and people haven't got much cash. It's certainly a time to buy, if you can afford to, rather than a time to sell.
  21. Leave the buzzards alone. If anyone interprets your actions as malicious you'll be in really deep s*it. Just read some of the threads in the falconry section! I loathe to use this term but 'as a rule' you 'should' see more rabbits in the summer as there is 'usually' more food around and it's warmer. The same rule applies to foxes and buzzards though so if you don't see more rabbits, or they suddenly disappear, then something else predates your land. Environmental changes are seeing these patterns shift so the rule book is always changing.
  22. That gun is designed not to double cock.... let us know what the problem is when the gunshop get back to you.
  23. I reckon the best bet is to observe your hunting ground and find out how it works for you.
  24. When are rabbits most abundant? That's a tricky one. I don't think there is a magic time, it's all dependent on the environmental pressure the species faces in any given location. Predation. Foxes, buzzards, etc. Disease. Mixy and VHD. Hunting. How many have permission on your land? How many hunt it without permission? How many, like me, ferret all year round and don't honour breeding seasons? Destruction of habitat through housing development and commercial expansion. If you've got a formula, I'd love to hear it.
