Line Breeding Explained
gnasher16 replied to labsnlurchers's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Think your missing the point mate.....when you have 2 dogs in front of you whos parents and ancestry you know and have researched the good and bad....and you have decent basic knowledge of genetics and breeding techniques....you stand a lot more chance of producing good animals than a man who has learned about breeding from books. Put it this way id rather a builder build me a house than an architect !....hopefully you get where im coming from. -
Line Breeding Explained

I wouldnt worry mate.....all the scientific jargon sounds impressive if you havent read it all before, but in reality it has little bearing on the dogs you breed in front of you.....what folk seem to forget is that nobody could ever be totally sure on any breeding they do....we are talking about genes in the millions not stacking ten in a row and hoping they hit or miss......the best a man breeding for performance can do is get a basic understanding of genetics, research his peds and the make up of his dogs and then breed best to best within that strain or outcross as he sees fit....anything els -
Line Breeding Explained

Thats exactly my point.....see we was in agreement all along like i said,it cant be stressed enough how important the selection process is when breeding related dogs....we only select dogs for breeding who we consider to have picked up good traits, and not picked up bad....this doesnt matter when the dogs have no common ancestry because how can genes repeat if they are not shared. The trees example was good, but remember that also works the same for desirable traits as well whether you use inbred or linebred individuals to shape your bloodline....they are both to be used as tools....selectio -
Line Breeding Explained

With respect...you havent told me anything i havent already read myself....and i did say READ because thats all it is a read.....i say again, the real life results of breeding dogs can and is very different from what the text books say......all the long words in the world wont change that.....there are literally thousands of examples to put all that theory to ruin happening every day....yes of course there are breeding ideals and scientific fact...but nature behaves how it wants to sometimes all we can do is give it a helping hand by putting the odds in our favour..... I have shared views and -
Cant work out whether this thread is a wind up or not......its like saying if a white woman has a kid with a black man and then later in life has a child with a white man the child may come out black ! ....please say its a wind up.

Line Breeding Explained

Anything to do with breeding gets my attention, what id ask you labslurcher, is are you stating your opinion or what you consider to be fact ?....one thing ive learned over many years learning myself and from others is that nature often makes light of what we think are facts.....i agree with most of what you say IN THEORY....but the truth is theory very rarely works in reality......i imagine your a very educated guy, either that or you have been reading too many science books ....i am not educated and the amount of books ive read i can count on one hand.....but what i do know is when it comes -
Nothing wrong with boys fighting its perfectly natural and a part of growing up every generation has done it our parents grand parents and so on.....schools fight other schools...areas fight other areas its the most natural thing of any boys development....unfortunately in todays society we have these dogooding fairies who want boys to play computer games all day or tend to their skin, gel their hair and work on their feminine side which is why lads grow up these days with such a pathetically weak outlook on life in general....of course the problem comes when you start hearing of all this girly

....and if he dares crack you back in the middle of that little lot ?.....whats with all this biting and scratching bollocks with kids these days......aint they got no pride in the way they do things we would have had our mates rip the piss out of us had we bit someone years ago.
-
Well its simple mathematics then innit....get 5 mates together, problem solved !
-
I know im a moaning old cxxt sometimes but what on earth is the world coming to !...whatever happened to lads fighting each other for fun and learning from each other......when we was young we would go 100 % on each other friends or not just to learn what we was doing....nowadays it seems kids stand about talking about it yet when it comes to it they dont know what to do !......my advice would be if your a fighting sort of lad then do what works....if not, stay indoors and phone the plods. A direct correctly thrown punch to the upper middle chest or throat is no fun to recieve ....hard to d

Wouldnt say im an expert either bill.....did a fair bit as a younger chap and as you know you never lose the interest or passion......and yes ive seen plenty of khans come and go some made it some didnt....hamed was a khan in his early stage and he made it...benn the same....some dont and we forget them maybe khan himself will fall into this bracket.....personally i dont think he will.......if he becomes technically proficient and more than just the delivery of punches he can do what other chinny fighters have done......like myself you must have seen plenty of top level fighters over the years
-
But hearns only moved up to light heavy in his quest for 5 world titles...it was nowhere near his natural weight....now personally i wouldnt put andries, virgil hill or barklay in the same league as leonard, hagler etc...yet these were probably his 3 most important fights at light heavy 1 of which he lost the other 2 he won by the skin of his teeth....you cant seriously think that tommy hearns had anything less than a very brittle chin.....the punch hagler caught him with that put him down barely touched him...but being glass chinned it had enough effect....same as the roldan fight he was caught
-
It was chinnyness mate, plain and simple....ok as another example....watch hearns fight with james kinchen,in despreate trouble many times during that fight....same when he fought juan roldan desperately clinging on to his legs !.....or when iran barkley knocked him out the ring.....none of these were known hard punchers......hearns just could not take a punch, even a relatively weak punch in average competition........it didnt stop him being a 5 weight world champion though did it......and thats my only point regarding khan....not putting khan in their league obviously but you get my point.

put the dog on the back seat and drive....whats so complicated.

re benn......if you rmember bill nigel benn was knocked down and on the verge of defeat against anthony logan ( a complete nobody ) BEFORE the watson fight....now i wouldnt put anthony logan in the " highest echelons " of the sport,in fact id put him pretty near the bottom of the sport.......also benn was physically in his prime and at his strongest being a relatively late starter to the sport at top level......in other words he was physically mature which khan is not completely.....incidentally,thats not my opinion on benns chin its his own words that he had poor punch resistance. re hear

Im amazed liddell hasnt been knocked out a lot more in his career....for a striker he is technically very poor....against evans he was stood square on trying to lead with an uppercut ....and got caught.
-
This is the thing, its too early in the kids career to tell these things......in my opinion khan was being rushed along too quickly which is the downside to media hype...........id like to have seen him learn his trade for longer maybe even stay amateur a few more years.....but moneys the magnet of course.....at least this way he would have learned how to have a defence as well as an attack !... Skills ? yes possibly....Power ? yes possibly......heart ? who knows he hasnt had to show any yet apart from the limond fight which was more about instinct than actual heart in a long drawn out war....

Lad ? ....i imagine i,ll be hitting the earth before you pal......anyway....lennox lewis has never trained a fighter why would harrison choose him as a trainer.........as regards excuses....im not pro khan and i have made no excuses for him.....ive spent near 40 years seeing promising fighters come and go some made good some didnt....im certainly not going to start making excuses for a ......erm,asian chap !
-
To simplify my point....i suggest you take a good close look at the career start to finish of nigel benn......better still take a look at the career of tommy hearns who won 5 world titles fighting some of the elite fighters in world boxing......hearns had an awful chin throughout his career........but.....his attack was his best means of defence same with benn....fantastic head movement, good structured attacks....but when the time came they had to take serious shots they was found wanting, why do you think they made for such exciting fights you never knew if they was going to knock out or get k

I think your getting carried away with cheap talk mate.....i know it sounds good and funny to say fighters are a "sack of shit "....but even old audley was british title level.....that might be a sack of shit compared to world title level but its the elite of the sport compared to you and me so lets not get carried away with words...personally i respect any fighter good or bad who is willing to get in and do battle......audley harrison had the talent to win an olympic medal, like i said, how far that talent takes you in the pro,s is a different matter,in his case....not very far...........in

Getting knocked out happens in boxing mate thats why its called the science of hitting without getting hit back....but it doesnt always go to plan.....that doesnt mean someone suddenly has no talent it just means they have to compensate for their weakness in this case by becoming defensively sound, which khan never was....why was he an embarrassment ? getting knocked spark out is no fun.....we will see the type of character khan is by the way he responds to this setback......if he proves he genuinely isnt up to top level then so be it......but he doesnt strike me as a cur who will give up and g

In a twsited kind of way that the other night was probably the best thing that could have happened to khan.....this windmill attack of his is so amateurish and one of his biggest faults from day 1.....now he knows how easy he can get caught coming in like that he will need to pick his punches that much more....i keep referring to nigel benn.....but again it was exactly the same with him and he always said later on how valuable to his career that first knockout loss to watson was..... To say khan is useless is just silly talk, nobody wins an olympic medal without having at least talent....how f

Dont want to get involved in a pissing match here....but how on earth can you tell what a dogs hips are like from a photoraph ?...the dog might be standing awkward......and anyway,..who gives a f**k what the dog looks like in a picture nobody is going to buy a dog off what it looks like in a few photos. Not the sort of dog that interests me to be honest but dont look much wrong with him but then ive always felt people do their working dogs an injustice by throwing photos of them on the internet. -
spot on i too have been saying for months guy has glass jaw hes finished hang up the gloves Pretty much sums up the attitudes of our cur society these days !.....if you cant win give up !....every day we lose ground to others with this givng up at the first sign of trouble attitude whether it be race religion society or in this case sport. The kid has an obvious talent, weaknesses yes,but undoubted talent.....so the minute he loses he should give up and go sign on the dole queue thats good advice....

Bill likewise mate....i value any mans opinion who speaks with the head and not the heart....most people who are not real boxing people speak from the heart which is why most of the population wanted the "cocky little shit " to get what he got....believe me being a proud englishman im no fan of khans and im perfectly happy with the result last night like most people.....however,like yourself i try to view boxers and boxing issues with the head so as much as i dont disagree with anything you say or any comparisons you make i do make you wrong regarding benn....nigel benn was much more than a s
