Ok mystic meg your clearly way out of my league or anybody elses when it comes to medical expertise....i dont know anyone that can see whats going on inside someones body....if only the ref that night was as smart as you none of this would have ever happened....yet the poor old bbbc got fined for not having measley old medical supervision on close stand by !...aint no justice is there !....in the meantime maybe you could have a butchers at my old mum one of these days and let me know if and when cancers on the way......oh,and the lottery numbers for this wknd if your feeling generous !
-
Personally i think you are a little more intelligent than you are letting on....if at the start of the 12th round you yourself could forsee that michael watson was going to slip into a coma and suffer permanent brain damage then you are clearly more of an expert than anybody there present that night or since...........as for the other nonsense,i dont think he would lose any sleep over somebody calling him names from their keyboard.......and personally i like and respect the man....so do it yourself !

Ive found most of your thoughts on boxing matters very close to my own and have enjoyed reading them....but this i find disgusting, jimmy tibbs has forgot more about boxing and boxers than you or i will ever know...he is possibly the most respected british trainer of our generation.....and here you are questioning the mans heart......i have pictures here of his wedding day,his face busted to pieces.....cradling his son in his arms who himself went on to be a good pro....jimmys own career was based on heart overcoming a lack of technical ability yet he still went further than most....and did the

jimmy tibbs decision to allow watson to come out for the last round was neither here nor there in relation to watsons permament brain damage......the damage was already done, and the ambulance was still going to take 30 minutes to reach him regardless.....like i said before....learn about a man before judging him,or just be the same as most sports fans and find someone to blame....anyone as long as a finger can be pointed....and to be honest,if you think jimmy tibbs would trick one of his fighters into brain damage just to get the win....then i find that disgusting and have no further interest
-
" Trick ".....so your saying jimmy tricked watson into permanent brain damage ?.......like i said, learn something about a man before you judge him and if you want someone to blame.....then blame the people who were found guilty instead of targetting a decent family man highly respected in the toughest of sports.
-
I think what needs to be remembered is it really doesnt matter what i think or you think......the high court made judgement and thats what its there for......the reason watson suffered permanent damage was NOT because he was out on his feet in the last round,NOT because the ref or jimmy tibbs allowed the fight to continue......it is because he did not recieve oxygen within the critical half hour following his collapse...this is not my opinion this is medical facts......now,whether tibbs had allowed his man to contnue a fight he was clearly winning but under tremendous pressure and out on his f

17 years of hindsight is an easy thing to have and the tragedies of this fight brought about massive changes, remember this was at a time when there was not even rules for ambulance access at fights......had this happened today the odds are that watson would not have recieved permanent injuries, which is what was explained in the high court....jimmy tibbs was not blamed then and is not blamed now, neither was the referee or doctor.....this is an extremely tough often brutal sport and unfortunately tragedies have and will happen from time to time, thankfully there has not been a death in the ring s

Jimmy is a stand up fella and a family man mate....he might have made that mistake from a boxing point but it wasnt a mistake from a lack of human care point of view.......the tragic consequences that followed were the result of it taking half hour to get oxygen to watson hence he sued the bbbc for 1 million....not tibbs fault......it also must be remembered that watson was well ahead going into that last round and natural human adrenalin and emotion hit us all.....what followed nobody would have wished on poor michael watson, especially jimmy tibbs as its well known he had fantastic relationsh

I have to admit,as much as i do rate khan as an athlete....he really does need to button it and not get too carried away...one thing he said nearly made me piss my pants laughing..... " im 1.5 % bodyfat for this fight " .......i used to be a competetive bodybuilder and i could never get below 4 % for even a 2 hour comp without fainting !.....there is no way you could perform athletically under 5 % bodyfat and even sat in an armchair you couldnt be 1.5 % bodyfat without being dead first !....silly fxxxxr !
-
My guess is your a little older than you sound......but not by much !........maybe you should have kept it simple and said YOU like mma best.
-
Couldnt agree more....for people that have been on the dangerous side of the ropes some folk on here dont seem to know much about how the game of boxing works......some seem to think if a fighter go,s down as a youngster he is no good and never will be......some think that a green young kid should be fighting the worlds elite fighters just because he shows talent....for people that have apparently " done a bit " ....you dont seem to know an awful lot about the game ! I dont like khan the same as the next man but not for the same reasons as most.....however i appreciate a good young prospect a

If he can keep a fight on its feet he will win....if he cant,he wont....not at top level anyway
-
Because before he got hammered......thaxton priced himself out of a fight with khan

[quote name='longdogrunner' date='Jun 22 2008, 02:53 PM' post='564954 gnasher, you're nearly as pedantic as me....... ........i'll do it A, B, C for you see if thats any clearer??? A= a boxer in a ring with a MMA fighter, going by boxing rules should win!!! B= an MMA fighter against a boxer in an octagon, playing by MMA rules, should win!!! C= the two of them in any setting using all their skills....who would win??? MMA in my view would be the victor, so therefore surely MMA is better!!!! Well seeing as you are so much brighter than me and you clearly know your a,b,

I really think you need to remember what the ufc billed their organisation as back in the early 90,s......." cage fighting "....." no rules fighting "...the reason it was called no rules fighting was because it was supposed to be a fight without rules !!!....kick boxing, judo and of the fancy named martial arts....do what you like or what you need to do to win a fight......that was how they billed it.....if you can find any of the old interviews with any of the fighters around then you will get what they was saying.....it was not to see if karate would beat judo or boxing beat jui jitsu etc etc
-
The fight should definately have been stopped, probably earlier than it actually was......gomez was stopping too many accurate unanswered punches.....some fighters are too brave for their own good and a fight stopped fractionally too early is always better than a fight stopped fractionally too late.....things were only going to get worse for gomez against a younger stronger fitter and most importantly....bigger opponent.....the better fighter won so why risk serious injury to a guy who most probably would not have taken the easy way out.

What a shame.....there used to be some pretty knowledgable boxing folk posting on this site.......clearly not anymore !.....personally i dont think khans got a glass jaw,but even if he has,it didnt do nigel benn much harm....he had the speed and guts to get through it,just like khan possibly has......as for all the folk who wanted to put him in with world champs maybe now you realise how the game works....you learn your trade THEN you fight big important fights not the other way round. Like i said a few years ago...i,ll take bets with anyone who thinks khan wont win a version of a world title
-
My apologies to you knowledgable folk who will see this as a dumb question but if you dont know i guess the only way is to ask..... I had to drive to a small village called ickford close to aylesbury, bucks yesterday.....just as i was coming off the m40 i noticed what i first thought was a group of kestrels hovvering.....all the way through to the village i saw more little groups of 10- 15 of them,i pulled over to watch them for a while and realised they were way too big to be kestrels....they were fairly large powerful birds....having very little knowledge, but a little interest in falconry...
-
Well if you meant what was peoples favorites you should have said....but you asked who would win !...well my logic tells me a boxer would win a boxing match and an mma fighter would win an mma fight....just like a tennis player might win a tennis match and and a cricketer zzzzzzzzzz....see what i mean, theres no logic to the question.....
-
Trappa....ufc/mma....was designed as a contest to see who would win a fight,it was never specifically aimed at martial arts/boxing.....which martial art does head butting come under ? headbutts played a big role in the early ufc,s....as did groin shots, kicks to the head of a downed opponent......and many more...none of these come under the banner of a martial art...its just part of what happens in a real fight........vale tudo was the nearest thing to a real fight which is why fighters such as randy couture started off in it in the no rules fighting world. Personally i think dana white is an
-
Yes but it defeats the whole object of the sport.....as the chap above says, the origins of mma was vale tudo......ufc 1 to about 7 was it i cant remember....were real fights,as close to what anyone could call " a real fight "...that was its design.....but it was banned in most states in america because it was too violent !!....the many rules since have been brought in by the ufc backing down to society and tv companies.......as you saidthere was 2 rules thats all....now thats a fight.....yes timed rounds make sense......but the amount of things you now cant do in a fight stop it from being a "

MMA hasnt been spoilt by money ????....the whole sport is different to what it started out as BECAUSE of money !....the ufc brought in new rules to be accepted by tv...if thats not a sport being spoiled by money i dont know what is......as 2 disciplines mma will beat boxing hands down ? what does that mean ? beat it how .........ufc/mma is barely recognisable to the sport it started off as a mere 15 years ago......i listened to an old interview on sky a while back with ken shamrock talking about how excited he was at the prospect of having a real fight in a cage and getting paid for it.....he

If your not a fan of boxing mate thats fine.....but dont come out with a big sweeping statement like that without evidence to back it up,or is it just your view......when did the uk last have a year like its just had ?..3 world champions,2 of whom are top 10 pound for pound fighters......whole stables of good fighters in wales, london, sheffield etc....some good jocks.....khans a great prospect if you accept him as being british, along with a lot of other good young prospects....... whos our british hopes for world titles in mma ? michael bisping, who personally i dont think will win a world titl

Its always a shame when a once very good fighter has to come back when he shouldnt.....as much as i dislike the man id hate to see another boxing casualty and he is crying out to be made an example of......hopefully he wont get back in there.
