Some fair points Wilf.....just a couple of things.....i didnt know that about the Dutch mentality as regards their competetive nature and winning at all costs.....from what im led to believe youngsters over there and indeed Spain and many other countries do not allow their kids to play in competetive leagues until 15/16 years old.......obviously meaning they prefer to work on skills before working on a winning mentality......but this was 10 years ago it might be different now i dont know,i was living over in Holland for 6 months and what i saw of the game there really impressed me at every lev

The Academy of Football ".....we have always been associated with flair players and teams that play good football......ok we,re coming up short in recent years but we never changed our philosophy of the game ( well until wham bam whack it Sam came along that is ) Labtastic i think if a defender is badly positioned or not quick enough when a striker is through on goal then the sliding tackle should not be able to save him.........the sliding tackle amongst other things is a way for slow defenders to get the better of quicker more skillful forwards and thats bad fo

Maybe its us thats out of touch...........in England tackling is a massive part of the game but its not in other countries.......and when you look at who has success at International level in World competitions.......it suggests that we in the Uk are doing something different to the rest of the world because we have world class players for sure.........im not saying im right,its only a theory i have......but our " get stuck in " attitude has never encouraged players to be good with a ball at their feet,and for that we have suffered at International level at least.

Mine is not very fashionable thinking these days because our game has always been based on the " get stuck in " attitude,but lets face it that hasnt got us very far !.......... Id like to see a law come out that does away with any kind of tackle where a player is not on his feet.....that would stop sliding tackles or 2 footed tackles....tackle hard yes but you must be on your feet. If you look at places like Holland or Spain their youngsters are brought up with ANY tackle being a free kick to the other team !!....they encourage their youngsters to be good players standing up with a ball at

Delboy is the sort of character who could cause an upset.....he,s a wealthy guy away from boxing and has never taken the game too seriously he,s more a case of a young lad having fun rather than a dedicated athlete............that will either go for or against him......most probably against and will get easily beaten......but im betting purely with the heart and ive stuck a little chunk of change on a second round delboy stoppage................at 85/1 !!!!

Certainly wasnt much hunting to be done around the streets of east london and my parents detested dogs so wasnt till i got my own gaff that i got my own dog.....and then wasnt till later on and moved out to the open air and countryside i got an interest in hunting......i suppose i,ll always be behind other folk born into it......but its never too late to learn as they say.

Good man ....id like to see Leeds back up as well,big club,big history..........in time i guess. I dont disagree Barcelona nd Real madrid are probably the 2 best teams in the world at the moment......but i base the strength of a league on its depth.....and without those 2 the Spanish league is not particularly great,they are the only 2 clubs that have done anything in Champions league football where England has had different 4 clubs in finals in recent years.......the Premierships also the most watched league in the world......but like you say its all opinions and you make some valid points

I thought you said LEAGUES.....not individual clubs..... Sure Barcelona and probably Real Madrid are stronger sides than Man Utd/Man City........but 2 sides dont make a league.............what are Spains 4th and 5th placed teams like compared to ours....what are their mid table teams like compared to ours. Levante are 4th,Espanol 5th.............i might be wrong but id say our 4th placed club Arsenal and 5th Chelsea are far stronger clubs proven over the years Top 2 id pick Barcelona and Madrid over our top 2...................over the whole league ours is far stronger in my opinion.

Name a country with a stronger league ? Where there are 7 clubs as big as Man utd,Man city,Arsenal,Chelsea,Liverpool,Tottenham,Newcastle..................and the average mid table club is as big as Everton or Villa. And your telling me the skills of kids like Walcott,Chamberlain and Wiltshere at Arsenal have had no influence from the foreigners at the club......only cheating.

You must of played over Wanstead Flats Wilf.....think it used to be called the Echo league.......clubs like Senrab,Puma,Leyton all good clubs......used to go and watch a few pals over there used to be a great atmosphere must of been at least 50 pitches.........id get lumbered with carrying out the goalposts !!

Couldnt agree more with that mate........this is why the theatricals in our game doesnt bother me too much....nobody likes it,but thats the price we pay for havingso many foreigners in our game.................the plus side in that though is we have the strongest football league in the world......over the last 10 years we have seen a quality of football in our premiership the likes of which we have never seen in England before.....if we have to put up with a bit of noncey rolling around and play acting then so be it..... I used to think like that Wilf.......till i went to a few games in Spain,Holland etc......the education of the game they are brought up with in these places really made me question my thinking ( similar to yours )...........in junior leagues in Holland its actually against the rules to tackle !......we are so far behind the rest of the world in our approach to the way the game should be played it does make you wonder if the old " get stuck in " attitude is really ever going to take us far in the international game.....i dont like all the theatrical bollocks in our game today either....but i do

All this " rugby players are real men " and " footballers are pansies "...........its such a stupid comparison to make.
