Agreed Gnash but I guess it depends what you want from your training. I found their stories inspiring and it's what got me into lifting. I knew I'd never be able to replicate their feats but I'm also a realist! How many people honestly look at an Olympia era picture of Arnold and think that is possible? This whole thread is dedicated to diet. If you're serious though, it's a lifestyle. It doesn't have to be complicated. No one has to spend hours in the gym when some of the most grueling routines can be completed in under ¾ of an hour. PEDs. I care not who uses them but I think they're

The lad has a lot of potential in all fairness......with dedication and good knowledge thats a solid base to build on........not sure about them silly chains though !!.... and stay away from that speedball

The main reason people come out of prison in good nick is because your getting as much food as you want,as much training as you can handle and as much rest as you need......your focus is there, your goals are high because your training with likeminded folk.......and theres not much else to do,simple ! If you get a good gym orderly he,ll recognise your talent and help you accordingly........its a great place to train in my opinion.

And theres the second greatest player ive ever seen live.......sometimes when West Ham didnt have a game as a younger man i would sneak into the Clock End at Highbury pretending to be an away fan just to watch Liam Brady,i didnt give a monkeys who won or lost i would just watch him,not in a hero worship kind of way just for the sheer ability of the man..........then when he came to West Ham well it was birthdays and xmas all at once .......for those old enough to remember him,can you imagine Brady in todays game with these bowling green pitches and carpet slippers for boots !

+1 Support gear, and PED's, IMHO are for competition. I stick with compound lifts, and some unorthodox shit like splitting cords of firewood. For decades I've read up on some of the old time strongmen/lifters. Louis Cyr, Paul Anderson, Joe Greenstein. They trained hard and ate well. Their training regimes were incredibly simple. I believe we have a tendency to overthink the training. The latest greatest gear is bigger and better than last year. With the fitness industry worth billions, per year, it's easy to get swept up in the chrome and mirrors aspect. Lift Eat Rest

I dont get too wrapped up in numbers anymore Bird id rather see someone curl 50 lb slowly and correctly on the positive and negative than see someone throw a 200 lb barbell up and drop it down again......the key to growth is the feel of the muscle not big numbers.....The older i get the less weight i need to get that feel, without going all spiritual on you i can virtually concentrate the blood to a muscle these days even with a relatively low weight......far as im concerned weight training should be enjoyable, when you get too obssessed with numbers it quickly becomes a chore and who needs th

I dont train super heavy anymore so i cant give the best opinion but from trying it at say % power i can tell it doesn fit me......but thats just me.....im just a fraction under 6 foot and for taller guys i think its harder pushing the hips through as you dont have as much force pushing through the big muscles quads/glutes etc i think it places more strain on your knees.......but ive heard many shorter lads say they do well with it so each to their own. I first used a trap bar to train around a lower back injury and i never looked back with it.....everybody has different strengths i dont have

Thanks for that, I find that philosophy very easy to agree with. It's reassuring to read that my own young thoughts are at least on the right track. Everyone seems to want to lift with various bits of kit but if you're training to improve your functionality as a human in everyday life I figure strapping up and belt isn't ever an option out of the gym. My grip was the limiting factor on my DLs but I resisted the temptation to strap up, doing drop sets where necessary and tweaking my stance. Result... my grip is now on par with my posterior chain, not limiting it. I guess it depends why you

A lot of people do Tomo.......but i guarentee you like a guarentee Tuesday follows Monday that with 6 months grip training your basic pulling movement lifts will go up in weight 10 - 20%

They do yes......but theres far better exercises for forearms in my opinion........a good movement for combined forearm/grip is reverse curls with a thick bar.

I'm sorry but you're underestimating the effects of steroids big time, my cousin has no diet plan at all and doesn't train that intensely and his body has changed beyond belief, the reason.... Steroids. Whats his cycle......and why ?........Taking performance enhancing drugs without trying to enhance your performance will not build mass or muscle, but will still experience all the same side effects........if you take Viagra to improve your sex life but dont have sex you dont bypass the side effects Steroids are for serious lifters to supplement a well organized diet and training regime....taki

No need for compliments me ol son we,re just swapping thoughts on a common interest thats all My philosophy of strength/fitness has changed so much over the years i honestly believe that when you push your ego to the side and forget about numbers you really get a more true understanding of what strength is i see so many lads in the gym using straps for deadlifts, straps for shrugs ive even seen them used for barbell curls !!....Armwrestling changed my whole outlook on functional strength a chain is only as strong as its weakest link and all that....i always liken human performance to car p

Deadlift is more about technique than outright crazy strength you could be the strongest man alive but if you dont know how to position your body correctly and push your hips through etc you,ll never be a good deadlifter. A lot of it depends on the reason someone trains, very few people are strong in the whole body we all have strong/weak points a deadlifter might not be able to curl much weight but he doesnt need to.......the tricky part is when its simply down to genetics, without sounding big headed im genetically blessed in shoulders and arms but it becomes a problem when training should

Awesome pull though, mate. I could never close the 3 but I could rep with the two. I put that down to deadlifting with 3" barbells! This isn't my first set of vulcans. First set got stolen when I live in Manchester, and I paid a lot of money for them at the time. The reason I'm buying these is for longevity. They're cheaper and better than a lot of the commercial racks available, plus the space requirements for a commercial set isn't great for a home set up. Not to mention the gyms around here are set up for posers and playtime triathletes. I don't like the atmosphere where appearance is

Pull ups seem to be a weakness for a lot of people, then often neglected for that reason in favour of curls. Personally I think that makes the pull up family of exercises that much more impressive. 2 mins constant 1 handed? I assume thats a hang for grip training? On a similar note, I saw a gruelling challenge the other day. 1 pull up over the course of 2 minutes, 1 min up a 1 min down continuously. Not tried it but looked evil. The singe handed is for reps, gripping the wrist with the free hand of course so its not full bodyweight .......any slow pull like that is a tendon builder rat

I was waiting for someone to mention Ironmind products. They're seriously high quality. A lot of emphasis on the old school strongman exercises. I like their no nonsense philosophy. I'm a couple of quid away from the Vulcan squat racks for the garage! Nice to see you closed the number 3! Did you get certified on it, or was it just a personal best? No it wasnt under official conditions and at a time when they was modifying the rules regards start/finish positions......this was at the Zloty Tur arm wrestling tournament in 08 probably 15/20 men closed it a Russian puller Taras Ivakin

3 yards sideways 4 yards backwards from the most expensive player in the clubs history......he is not a well liked man around North London ! Different styles for different leagues......pace,power and aggression is needed in the premiership which is why the South American players have been some of the most succesful imports we,ve seen.........Ronaldo fits that bill.........personally id love to see Messi or Neymar in our league it would be fascinating to see how the theory plays out.

What you have to do is gently massage that teat until a drip comes out.......then put your mouth over it and suck until it runs through........trust me it works ........i also found that method stopped the aggression as well
-
Completely different types of player though mate Sanchez reminds me of Suarez he,s a grafter who will go looking and force situations.......Messi hasnt got that in his locker......Ozil is another one i thought he was a great player before he came to Arsenal but i just dont think the premiership agrees with him the way it does aggressive players like Sanchez/Suarez/Tevez.

I dont know about 10 years but i do think we should expect to pay for our mistakes somehow and financially makes sense...........i dont have a problem with forced repatriation but at least make them a sensible offer first

What a f****r that is......after all the work you put in as well..........hopefully you get a few back over the days but lesson learned the hard way i suppose.

With scenery like that i wouldnt give a shit what the weathers like !

Totally agree.......as Ronaldo proved, his pace and power was perfectly suited to our premier league whereas Messi ( brilliant as he is ) would struggle in our league in my opinion.....should the worlds best be the worlds best in any league and any team

Re the bollock ache...........take a paracetamol mate its just a tension headache......but not in the head.
