Not always. Matthias Schlitte. He's why I asked. hqdefault.jpg Schiltte has won many national titles but never won the big tournaments.........one of the biggest names at the moment is a skinny Russian kid called Oleg Zhokh i met him in Poland when he was 17/18 and just gripping up with him something didnt feel right !.....he was born with 6 fingers on his left hand and had 2 removed but the muscles/tendons/ligaments etc within the forearm remained meaning he basically has the workings for a 6 fingered hand ....the Russians are dominating the sport at the moment another freak of n

Devon Larratt has been at the top of the sport for many years he is one of the most techincal arm wrestlers out there and a very intelligent man.......if you can be bothered.....have a listen to him discussing different approaches and you,ll realise just how technical it can get. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNZhczYtPbU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBJTzHWTJzA

You say you have only been lifting a few months......do yourself a favour me ol mate and stop reading so much.......get into a reputable gym, seek out some big strong healthy well conditioned people and ask them what they do......most people are only too pleased to share knowledge and information with newcomers as ultimately we are all chasing similar goals.......with only a few months lifting experience juice shouldnt even be entering your mind....learn to lift correctly, learn to eat correctly, learn your bodies responses.......then one day in the future if you ever get anywhere near to your ge

Going against your mates across the dinner table is nothing like proper competition i always knew i was pretty strong across the arms/chest/shoulders and always fancied competing long before i started taking it seriously.....but when i was in America years ago and pulled against proper arm wrestlers on competition tables i realised just how far behind i was !......I trained over there with top pullers of similar age as me but of all different shapes and sizes guys like Dave Randall,Ron Bath,Alan Fisher and of course the greatest ever John Brzenk they were all big names and so i had a good star

Yes it starts at Bantamweight right up to Super heavyweight....much like boxing you,ll want to compete at your lightest but strongest weight and you,ll weigh in before a tournament same as boxing.........ive seen some comparatively slim lads do well.... the current British middleweight champion isnt exactly Mr Universe. Short stocky arms are a big disadvantage as you just dont have much leverage, the 2 basic styles are hook and top roll......and many variations of both.....but a short stumpy arm will be taken apart by a good posting top roller....to be a real good arm wrestler you need to b

Theres not an arm wrestler alive who is unbeaten !......The mind games play a big part, tiny little adjustments in style can make a huge difference its not so much the shouting and hollering as at the top level your not going to intimidate anyone its more a case of getting your own mind and focus/concentration right.

Its a complicated little turn out Socks its more of a northerners thing really even though myself and a few likeminded folk have got competition tables in many of the well known gyms in London now and we are pushing it as a sport.....the British Armwrestling Federation have a handful of clubs round the country but being affiliated to them means you cant compete in competitions that are not sanctioned by them so even though they probably run the best tournaments here like the Armwars series you are still limited unless you compete independently but that means paying your own entry fees and qual

And theres the second greatest player ive ever seen live.......sometimes when West Ham didnt have a game as a younger man i would sneak into the Clock End at Highbury pretending to be an away fan just to watch Liam Brady,i didnt give a monkeys who won or lost i would just watch him,not in a hero worship kind of way just for the sheer ability of the man..........then when he came to West Ham well it was birthdays and xmas all at once .......for those old enough to remember him,can you imagine Brady in todays game with these bowling green pitches and carpet slippers for boots ! That's some

Mayweather was hurt and wobbled against Pacquiao you mean ?......i must of missed that.

Did you get any of them back Navek ?

Must admit i cant abide all that show malarky with birds any more than with dogs......just dont sit right with me but each to their own im sure they are happy healthy animals in their own way.

Great stuff good luck to you !......you know what they say.....when your street doesnt have a name and your house doesnt have a number you know you,ve made it

Not to be nosey.....but what sort of age are you mate ?
-
The reality is though.....it cant.......that lad has a great base to build a good physique.......but it wouldnt win him a bodybuilding competition at the moment.....everyone has different focus and different goals he looks a good strong healthy person with good genetics and for some people thats mission accomplished....for others its just a start.

And thats exactly how a good counter puncher will have you.......hesitant.........doubting your own ability to land the punch without getting nailed.

Absolutely Chris....having had a reasonably succesful boxing career i was always searching for that same high as fighting and nothing even came close........having been around gyms from a kid it seemed a natural progression to lift weights after my career ended and although it was never as rewarding as fighting i did experience the same pureness of competition when i first started arm wrestling......it gave a purpose and honesty of competing i had not felt for many years so for me regardless of physical strength the iron game is a place where you can lose yourself or find yourself.

Yes its an age old theory and im sure it does apply in some cases but on the whole i think its a load of bollocks !.......The mentality of many men in prison changes from being on the street, you feel more vulnerable, more defensive.....and the natural urge to protect yourself via increased strength becomes obvious......couple that with the regular training/food/rest etc.....and improvements are bound to be made.

Agreed Gnash but I guess it depends what you want from your training. I found their stories inspiring and it's what got me into lifting. I knew I'd never be able to replicate their feats but I'm also a realist! How many people honestly look at an Olympia era picture of Arnold and think that is possible? This whole thread is dedicated to diet. If you're serious though, it's a lifestyle. It doesn't have to be complicated. No one has to spend hours in the gym when some of the most grueling routines can be completed in under ¾ of an hour. PEDs. I care not who uses them but I think they're

The lad has a lot of potential in all fairness......with dedication and good knowledge thats a solid base to build on........not sure about them silly chains though !!.... and stay away from that speedball

The main reason people come out of prison in good nick is because your getting as much food as you want,as much training as you can handle and as much rest as you need......your focus is there, your goals are high because your training with likeminded folk.......and theres not much else to do,simple ! If you get a good gym orderly he,ll recognise your talent and help you accordingly........its a great place to train in my opinion.

+1 Support gear, and PED's, IMHO are for competition. I stick with compound lifts, and some unorthodox shit like splitting cords of firewood. For decades I've read up on some of the old time strongmen/lifters. Louis Cyr, Paul Anderson, Joe Greenstein. They trained hard and ate well. Their training regimes were incredibly simple. I believe we have a tendency to overthink the training. The latest greatest gear is bigger and better than last year. With the fitness industry worth billions, per year, it's easy to get swept up in the chrome and mirrors aspect. Lift Eat Rest

I dont get too wrapped up in numbers anymore Bird id rather see someone curl 50 lb slowly and correctly on the positive and negative than see someone throw a 200 lb barbell up and drop it down again......the key to growth is the feel of the muscle not big numbers.....The older i get the less weight i need to get that feel, without going all spiritual on you i can virtually concentrate the blood to a muscle these days even with a relatively low weight......far as im concerned weight training should be enjoyable, when you get too obssessed with numbers it quickly becomes a chore and who needs th

I dont train super heavy anymore so i cant give the best opinion but from trying it at say % power i can tell it doesn fit me......but thats just me.....im just a fraction under 6 foot and for taller guys i think its harder pushing the hips through as you dont have as much force pushing through the big muscles quads/glutes etc i think it places more strain on your knees.......but ive heard many shorter lads say they do well with it so each to their own. I first used a trap bar to train around a lower back injury and i never looked back with it.....everybody has different strengths i dont have

Thanks for that, I find that philosophy very easy to agree with. It's reassuring to read that my own young thoughts are at least on the right track. Everyone seems to want to lift with various bits of kit but if you're training to improve your functionality as a human in everyday life I figure strapping up and belt isn't ever an option out of the gym. My grip was the limiting factor on my DLs but I resisted the temptation to strap up, doing drop sets where necessary and tweaking my stance. Result... my grip is now on par with my posterior chain, not limiting it. I guess it depends why you
