  6. how many of you would go outside your chosen type of terrier when breeding a litter. years ago most terriers where crossbreds. but now most folk seem to stick to a certain breed or type. it used to be best to best now it seems its best patt to best patt. best russell to best russell and so on. is this pureist attitude good or bad for the working terrier in general or not so good. i'd be interested in your thoughts on this. if you have any cleanspade
  7. no there is nowt wrong with mixing and matching different breeds to produce what you want. you will get the odd outstanding worker. it has been done for centuries. but if you want to consistantly breed quality you have to linebreed best to best for many generations. we are still breeding some of the best sporting dogs in the world on this small island. for the control of ground vermin. if i wanted a pig dog i would import one from australia/new zealand. from someone working a linebred strain that had been bred for the job for generations. i wouldnt go on to one of there sites
