  3. a good baying terrier should get up close and bay steady like. only raising the steaks when the fox forces it to. so a bayer for me as long as it is close up
  4. ive seen a couple of terriers that coud regularly kill a fox. both where intelligent neither liked taking punishment. they would both bay up close dodging the foxes strike. and take hold when the opertunity arose. this type are not hard. so not sure about the old adage never breed off a dog that cant kill a fox as neither of the dogs i saw where hard.

  10. mine are mostly wank russells and plummers. i prefare bolting terriers but ask my terriers to work above and below. i'm getting oder now and dont do much digging. but still get the odd fox to ground never was a hundred a year man
  11. its never happened yet. but i would walk past a hole i didnt fancy. also i'm in an enviable possition regarding excavating equiptment. if i ever am in trouble
  12. my mother had a little fox terrier about 20 years ago she certainly had the instinct and drive. and once disapeared dowwn a cundy drain and stayed wwith it for a couple of hours. i was glad to get her out as i neww her muzzle under the furnishings was thin long and very weak not capable of taking a lot of damage. just another wasted breed imo. i agree there are still some very good lines of russell left. they may be mixed bred but so where the old bent legged ones.
  13. what if the fox didnt show. ok lets say i have the dog to ground and no chance of a bolt. i wait for the terrier to show or with one or two terriers ive owned i,ll shout the dog off. stand out of sight down wind and wait quietly for say half an hour. most times the fox is out sharpish. especially in smaller shallow affairs. in bigger earths. its sometimes worth giving the dog a run through again. or trying a different terrier. from a different hole. and then doing the same again. on the rare occasion that it wont shift lift the net and give it best. or if its a pest lift the net and set
  14. If it showed, they dont always. thats true. but a good percentage do. if you know how to go about it in a quiet way. i would then give it best. there's allways another day.
  15. a handy little baying dog woud be my choice. one that will shout out. then i.d have the fox when it showed
