    best show

i liked the lowther good show to take the wife and kids to. i won best pup in show with my old russel bitch in the late 90s 99 i think. my old dog trusty got reserve there also i think it was 96. i remember they where big classes then must of been 30 or more just in the russel dog class. the great yorkshire was also a good show then. never made the lambourn would of liked to have seen that show. dont do many shows now but used to enjoy the craic when i was younger. happy days.
  4. ive a couple of plummers. and fight the ban. my eldest terrier will do all the tasks with ease. sassy will work cover tirelessly. is a fair dog with the ferrets. and gun/lurcher. best nose ive seen in an age. she also gets the odd fox for me below ground. if i could only keep one terrier it would be her. a real sporting dog i would say a well bred plummer woud be just the job. and at less than the price of most terriers. delivered half way. you have to realise that the shite wrote about plummers is just that.......SHITE. oh forgot to say top notch ratters as well lol
  5. good thread del. i have to say i also have my sport at heart and i value a terrier like del has described above all work styles. the different types shoud be measured with different yardsticks. they are totally different animals with a different task. i dont give a fukc what other folk keep. why should i. i dont have to feed em. a good staying dog is a fine animal a pleasure to behold. but a lot of their owners think they have a monopoly on working terriers. all styles have their uses. get off your high horses.
  6. ive had two run ins with staffy types off the lead in as many weeks. both times i was walking my bigger whippet lurcher. on the lead. as he is a bugger with strange dogs. the other dogs got the brunt of it these times. so hopefully its a lesson learned for the owners who both was very nice but bissfully innocent to there dogs capabilities woud have been a different story if it was my smaller dogs. so i count myself lucky good luck with your whippet hope it is up and at em soon
  7. i'd say you've been very fortunate. as for the why would you want to. i suppose that was said when they set about forming the FMWTC.
  8. if you are into shooting with an air rifle and shotgun. a gundog breed would suit you better. but if your set on a lurcher that will retrieve shot foxes. a good greyhound cross is the way to go. i cant believe folk are recomending a beddy/whippet for this. if you think it through the guns will take work away from a lurcher. a terrier will give the bonus of shifting a fox from ground or tight cover. i'd opt for a work bred plummer. gundog. or greyhound based lurcher. collie cross would be my choice. good luck whatever you choose
  9. all black terriers are hard as fcuk all russells are yappers all plummers wont work my mate has a yorki that is a great ratter good looking dogs dont work. pre ban.
  10. cheat thats slander. it was an accident i'll do my best. allthough ive got wind turbines to put in first at wick and the isle of sky no rest for the wicked
  11. remember driveing rain and wind. or sustained periods of wet weather. remember to check old farm dumps. had a few good days in amongst em. under old farm buildings are also favourites. keep chappin
  12. Cracking Russell here. Ryan and Dbritt you keep a very handy sort too, well done crackin type that.
  13. i have to agree that the working terrier scene is very fragmented in scotland. the fmwtc is poorly supported. and a lot of the clubs are close knit affairs. a sign of the times i suppose. what happened to the club that was having meetings to form a comittee any rescue service is welcome. new or old. edited to add.pm for my support.
  14. they are all smart at that age. its a waiting game. very few get up and have the qualities needed. when mature. good luck with your pup. however its bred
