  3. Because when you load a needle the fuller it get the more twine per turn there is, all you can do is go by an average. Say you load a needle up with 200 turns then count the meshes that it makes, say for an example 500 then just divide the number of meshes by 200 the number of turns. 500 meshes divided by 200 turns gives you an average of 2.5 meshes per turn. Then however many meshes you are short for the net, say the net is 600 meshes so you are a 100 meshes short divide the number of meshes by 2.5 and that will tell you how many turns on the needle you are short. All the above figures ar
  4. count the number of times the twine goes round the needle when loading, if your short then count the number your short then you can load the needle with the correct amount of twine for a full net +1 I use the same needles and the pattern I use for my purse nets if I put 232 turns on the needle I have about 3 inches of twine left when the net is finished and the rings braided on. Same when I am knitting a long net. I am knitting a double strander at the moment out of 20/6 spun poly I put 352 turns on the needle and it gives me exactly 4 yards of net to the mesh. Different twines have
  5. Yes, he still has the run of the house and bosses everyone. He does like to jump up on his wife's lap and stretch out and chill TC
  6. Following on from an earlier thread about tame hares, a mate of mine had a leveret, that was found on a local horse racing course by one of the grass cutters, handed to him. That was back in June 2011 the hare is coming up for three now and still lives in the house with the dogs. Early days. Getting bigger. Sit. TC

  9. Terry, When pickling beets or anything I use 25% water place the beets in a jar 3/4 fill with white vinegar then top up with water. You can experiment how much water is too your liking. One thing though with pickling vinegar don't use the non brewed condiment that they sell in the big 5 litre cans it does not pickle anything properly. I use cheap asda's own make vinegar and it works well. I make a range of pickled onions from chilli onions to sweet pickle onions and shallots. The amount of water you add regulates how strong the onions are, and for sweet onions just add a tea spoon of
  10. Terry, Beetroot s a bit of a fetish of mine I have been growing the white, yellow, and striped beets for years. The white and yellow are not quite as earthy as the red beets. The white is quite robust and grows quicker than normal beetroot and they have the added advantage in that they don't bleed all over the place too. I grow the Chogia striped beet as baby beet lovely for pickling. TC

Another problem with the media is that they are bound by legal constraints, as the RSPCA have not yet been charged with anything, technically there is nothing to report except accusations. If the RSPCA do get charged with animal cruelty then there will be a big media frenzy. But until such time it's a matter of watch and make enquiries so they are ready with the story when the time comes. TC

I think the problem we have here, is that Dy and Clive are not willing to show their full hands, for obvious reasons. And to be honest I don't think we should be speculating what is and is not happening with regards to the legal side of the case. As has been said Clive Rees is a well respected and experienced solicitor who knows his job. There may be reasons that we are not privy too that he has not pushed for dy to see his dogs? Only he and dy would know those reasons. Personally I would hate for dy to slip up defending himself and let something slip that would jeopardise his case in any

I doubt that anything would happen if he did get in touch with him. As he only has three friends on facebook and Clive Rees is one of them. TC So a friends list on facebook makes or breaks you as a brief Clive Rees is handling the case. The other chap is not going to undermine his friend his he? TC

  18. It does not really matter how you start the selvedge off. The way I do it is to thread one side of a net on to a pole. Then start on the left hand side and just start knitting moving the other side of the net along the pole as you go. It does help if you can have a table below the net as that stops the net dropping making it slower to knit. When I knit a selvedge I have a piece of twine tied to my mesh board and it saves me having the thread a line through the selvedges once the selvedge is knitted. Once you have done the first row of selvedges just turn th

When people are spoon fed misinformation for all sources, swearing at them will not help educating them to the truth. Keep calm and show them the truth. That they have been spoon fed lies from institutions that they trusted. That lady did not know what the truth was, but because of Dy's handling of her she now does. And you can see the shift of her thinking in her writings. Keep at them Dy. TC

  23. A selvedge is impotent on any hand made long net, it does a lot more than just run on the lines. I would double up the twine you are using and use that. TC
  24. Yep, you would have to strip the engine to get it welded, even then there would be no guarantees. TC
  25. If you must be answered She was in yarak @ 3lb 1oz would follow on up to 3lb 3.5oz The reason she would not take pheasants is because there are no shoots in this area and the nearest ones you could not get permission within a couple of miles of them. Does that help? TC Hefty bird that. How was she at hunting? To be honest she was not the best I have had but that was not really her fault more of the mixie. She was pretty clued up on squirrels though and was a bugger when following on as she would bugger off looking for them and not follow the GWP. TC
