  1. Given the right training any dog can be taught to retrieve. TC
  2. I enjoy a walk collecting sticks. TC
  3. The best place to teach a dog to retrieve is a narrow alleyway, that way the dog has to come to you. To start off no more than two retrieves a day. Stepping up slowly as the dog gets older. Always finish the training session on a good note, even if it means cutting it short. Say the pup will sit, then end the session with a sit or anything that it is good at. TC
  4. I just watched that all the way through, what with the Welsh connection to it. Just wish he could pronounce the Welsh names and places a bit better. It was interesting though, and he did have some valid points. Pity he had to plug their book at the end as I felt it devalued all what he had said previously. All in all food for thought if your interested. TC

    Ullesthorpe

Have a look here, for B&B's gives prices and ratings. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/SmartDeals-g969721-Ullesthorpe_Leicestershire_England-Hotel-Deals.html TC
  6. The reason for that is not the height of the poles but the spacings of the poles. A lot of commercially sold nets have the poles at 7 yard / mtrs spacings and that causes the sag between the poles. That and a few other flaws in a quick set system. TC
  7. This may sound facetious, but it is not meant to be. It all depends how tall you are, you have a great big basket stuck in front of you, which will hinder your ability to bend, so the taller you are the longer the poles need to be for you to place them easily. Realisticly you only need poles of about 2ft in height to hold the net up.But placing poles of 2ft into the ground with a basket in front of you is a virtual impossibility, unless you are double jointed. Farm Pond

I thought that had been answered by someone, 500lb of fish per acre if I remember correctly. Doubt that I have though. Ossie&arch's link I think. TC
  9. To be fair to Kenny, English is not his first language, there may be a breakdown in translations and it is not translating as he meant it? TC
  10. It does sound as if you were all having a "stab in the dark" and there is nothing wrong with that, provided you come out the other side having learnt something. From the posts I can see that most are disappointed, but at the same time upbeat because they have learned something. Well done to you all I say, for having the courage to face the unknown rigours of boar hunting head on, and coming out with more knowledge that you went in with. I honestly tip my hat to you all. TC
  11. I can show you plenty where the background is sharp and the subject bokeh. TC
  12. Be careful when you dye it, you may find it shrinks about 1/4" in that case il dy it the way my grandfather did the pursenets , could with verry dark coffee and Brown egg scales, verry nice brown - gold coulor Just do not get nylon too hot as that is when it shrinks, you can use cold water dyes on nylon with a fixative. BTW polyester shrinks as well not to the extent of nylon, but it will shrink a little when boiled. TC
  13. Is that a good amazed or FFS he's off again amazed. TC

    At Last!

Well done is it Welshie now? Oh and Croeso i Cymru. What time is the barby? TC
  15. With a 2 1/16 size mesh board every 35 rows will give you a rigged yard of netting. 2.0625" x 35 = 72.1875" / 12 = 6.015 ft of stretched netting = 1 yard of rigged netting. TC
  16. Karma is a hell of a leveller. TC
  17. Are you double knotting the braided nylon? If not, how does it hold a single knot? TC
  18. The only advice I can give, is what I do myself, knit when you feel like it. If you don't want to knit then don't, It's not a race. One tip I would give is try and keep the net handy, as I knit mine I place it in a carrier bag hanging on the hook I use to hold the net. nothing is more demoralising than having half an hour spare and it takes 10 minutes to set it up 200 yards of stretched netting 14 meshes deep read to have the selvedges added. In the carrier bag @ 180 yards of stretched netting. TC

    Too Windy?

About the only wind that I will make an effort to go out in no matter how strong it is, is a Northerly to do the drops that cannot be done on any other wind. Northerly winds here that blow on into the night are so few and far between, when they do happen you have to use them. TC
