  1. Because if you selectively breed (as in for working ability) you increase the chance of that ability being enhanced in every generation you breed, ergo mere breeding cycles = more enhancement. That's if hunting ability is genetic. If it isn't, it doesn't matter. Which is what your post seems to be saying. now weve locked horns on this one many times in the past My thoughts being "best worker to best worker" every time to produce workers You on the other hand maintain there's no such thing as a working gene,so why do we get better working ferrets by my method of breeding than just
  2. Which is the question 'is working ability bred or learned somehow?' If anything, your post rather tends to the 'learned' side of the argument. You clearly do a lot more ferretting than the guys you took out, your ferrets are therefore much more experienced, and better at it. It isn't 'bred in' as you've only bred them rarely. Well the answer IMHO would be "working ability is bred" but improves with maturity, obviously not the finished article after a couple of times out, Neither would I claim my ferrets do more work than the others, Why isnt it "bred in" as I've only bred them rarely? 4. Well dont say t before you do! Its rubbish, i've read it all, and the topic has changed through out. Still stayed a good topic, and no one has threatened anyone but a home ferret is totally different to a working ferret. I have both, simple............... I will invite anybody out with me who has a home ferret. We will take yours and one of my workers....... This is the old 'nature vs. nurture conundrum. Is a decent worker born or does it learn as it goes along? Here's my take: I firmly believe that the only thing that line breeding achieves is to produce ferrets with the

  10. its instead of being dyed or stained, beeswax comes in different colours, just you said "rustic" in my eyes, rustic means none of todays stains and varnishes as a french polisher of over 40yrs experience pray tell how beeswax comes in different colours? slight shades maybe but thats all, "in my eyes, rustic means none of todays stains and varnishes" no trade secret that todays stains have made achieving colours by stains far far easier than the chemicals that they used to use and health wise a lot safer too I have watched "the salvager" and quite honestly at best hes a bodger, laughable bu

  14. Rigboot that link shows the knot being used to join 2 lengths, when I knit I come up through the mesh and hold it withmy thumb, throw a loop to the left(Im right handed) and bring the needle through the loop as the standard knot DONT draw it close, move the needle across to the right and bring it up through the first mesh again now draw it to a close and you should see it "snaking" round the mesh until its closed/locked on to itself does nt need a vast amount of pressure to close it and you can feel it "POP in Y.I.S Leeview
  15. It's a food supplement that most ferts seem to absolutely love, mate. It's not medicinal as such, but does contain various vitamins, amino acids & other supplements that helps keep them in tip top condition, as well as making things like nip-training & nail-clipping a helluva lot easier! I generally get it from here Thanks Quixote, but i don't think this would work in this case since the ferret is not eating normally,i would imagine it is excellent with ferrets with good apettites and in otherwise good health,it does sound like it is a tonic which would boost their diet and ge

  21. Yes they're English pattern in the pics, they're greyhound slips the collars extend Whippet slips are shorter, narrower and usually padded and lined in leather or suede, if he's selling them try ebay if there going for that much personally the most I'd seen them go for F2F was £100 and the cordsnot that hard to replace Y.I.S Leeview PS those whips are superb examples

  23. I'd of carried on with the set both jills in, but I'd also have had a couple more in a set of that size and would of had them all collared up in case of the scenario you've described. Plus side to it is your ferrets have more than likely killed one or more rabbits but they came away and did nt lie up with the kill, ADVICE from the majority myself included use locators or listen to 1 or 2 that dont use them at the end of the day its your choice Y.I.S Leeview
