Lambs tails are meant to drop off through lack of circulation, Used them for a couple of seasons without any rotting problems Y.I.S Leeview

well how come a member put 2 greyhounds up for stud only last week and the post was moved and PINNED in the sub forum GREYHOUNDS? Obviously it must of been one of the other mods who did that. So a seperate section specifically for stud dogs may not be such a bad idea? Y.I.S Leeview

since moving south all the warrens are hedgerows and they do hold a lot of rabbits I cant remember putting a purse net down since I came down here, much more efficient to use a couple of 10yds stop nets through the hedge either end of the warren, when you've finished move one net up the hedge and carry on like that till the end of the day or hedge Y.I.S Leeview

70's??? the cheek!! usually between 6 and 8 years I think I'd agree with that going back to the 50's 7yrs was average and they would nt be kitts when you got them from Abbotts Bros in Norfolk delivered by rail £2-10-00 for a hob and 2 jills Y.I.S Leeview

Not the first time this has happened all good ideas previously mentioned but still nothing gets done I suggested what happens on other boards where the money gets sent to a HOLDER, who then informs the seller he's got the money the seller sends the goods and when the buyer recieves the goods he informs the Holder who then forwards the money Downside: who could be bothered to do it? Well how about a commission to THL? say 5% thats 50p per £10 for peace of mind and would sort these people out Y.I.S Leeview

Skeletally a ferret is fully grown at 18weeks, about the same as a youth would be in human terms . as for keeping them back till they're 18month to start working them(2nd season)thats your choice but how long do stoat, weasels or polecats in the wild stay dependant on their parents before they're rejected to fend for themselves? kitts would be lucky to still be with their parents at 6month in the wild Y.I.S Leeview

on his site, click on prices and it says a 100yd net consists of 16 smaller nets? Y.I.S Leeview

Yep.Another blinder. YES absolute blinder that was your quote "not books scientific journals" I queried once again selecting what you want to reply to Y.I.S Leeview

It's difficult to seriously debate with someone who seems to think that 'books' are the source of all evil, but i'm a bit of a stubborn bugger, so I'll try. 'Told face to face'....yes I was. 'read it in books'....not 'books', scientific journals. These contain the methods and conclusions of the original research. In order to be published in a scientific journal the work has to be 'peer reviewed' by other scientists who might not neccessarily agree with the writer. I didn't say, and never have, that breeding 'worker to worker' you don't get workers. I said that I couldn't see a

Wikipedia may well be 'people's opinions'. But I didn't learn my genetics from Wikipedia, I learned it from the people that do original research into the subject. I reccommended Wikipedia to you for the reasons stated in my last post. "You learned it from people that do original research into the subject" again read a book or they actually told you face to face? You've had ferrets as pets for 5-6yrs? never worked them but feel justified to preach how we are wrong to suggest that by breeding worker to worker we will end up with workers the members on here are doing exactly that

Because you reckon you get the effect from one generation. Most people breed for several generations to get the standard they want. Yes, I can explain how selective breeding works. However, you've not accepted anything I've told you about genetics up to now, so I'm not convinced it's worth the effort. Try Wikipedia. Where Have I said I get the "effect"from one generation? Why breed several generations? I breed one generation at a time and reproduce what I have started with workers. hands on experience of working and breeding ferrets. Not reading about it on wikipeadia. you dont br

Get a smaller dog either cut back the damage in a diamond and reknit a patch in or alternatively knit back from the sound net double stranding (new and old twine Y.I.S Leeview

Which is a perfectly sensible course of action. As you'll be aware another of my hobby-horses is unneeded breeding . Doesn't answer my point re selective breeding and how it works though. OK I and a few other posters that do work their ferrets with a passion have already stated that best worker to the best worker is the way to breed to get workers so why does nt that answer your point? Can you explain selective breeding and how it works to me? Y.I.S Leeview

had pockets of myxi about the estate early this season but not widespread, odd strain this one with rabbits having "drawn heads" but still carrying body weight? not like a healthy rabbit but not the ususal skin and bones. did part of a long hedgerow last weekend bolting rabbits and never bolted so many stoatsand rats in one day for years, the rats were above us in the hedgerow Y.I.S Leeview

Yes, we have. So what is your explanation of the statement you made earlier that the number of generations you selectively breed make no difference to the working ability of the offspring. Because that's not how genetics re selective breeding works. And I'm not sure you can construct a valid argument from one piece of anecdotal evidence. droid my explanation is that I dont need to continually breed year in year out,I work my ferrets for several seasons sometimes up to 8yr old as long as their still up to the job,so dont need to have others at 6-5-4-3-2-1yr old just for the sake
