  1. Wonder if you can get R/C submarines?
  2. Lets have a fishing thread to the top, above the amateur dealer.
  3. Parachuting is bloody excellent mate. Only did a couple of jumps - not tandem, but static line - and the adrenaline rush beats solo rock climbing or caving. Mackem, cave diving has got a lot safer than it was in the '70s when there was allegedly a 1 in 10 chance that any one cave diver would be dear within a year.

I tend to go for the more esoteric stuff, like Sean O'Riada and Hedningarna http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLSeq3tAM2U...feature=related
  5. I think the term '£200 each' might have something to do with it.....
  6. And the Insurance company find out it was a pre-existing condition and refuse to pay out....brilliant plan
  7. What's wrong with roach? Or indeed, river Carp, of which there's quite a few in the Anker..... Or Tench......... Or Bream..... I'll get me coat....

I'd think it was a helluva lot. Especially the vet's fees. But my point is that there's relatively few people that spend that sort of dosh. I know people who wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying £3000 for a pole. Or £600 for a seatbox. Some of the prices in the angling mags make your eyes bleed. And not all my fishing gear is 'poxy'.....only some of it.....

It's not 'contrary' at all. Some agree with culling. some don't. It's a free choice people make and I've got no problem with that. And you're right. You breed from the best and hope for the best. That's the point I've been trying to make: in genetics you can't guarantee anything.

I didn't say 'no' economic significance, I said 'bugger all', ie very little. That's compared with many other past-times/hobbies/addictions..... What I'm saying is, we've got very little economic power, so the buggers in Government will do as they like. It might be disappointing, but it's reality. Money talks with politicians. Lets put it like this: a while back, I bought a decent PCP air rifle with a few bells and whistles. It cost £450. It's all I need to go hunting (though half decent eyesight might be useful too). I could spend 3 times that much on an angling setup.
  11. People buying are quick enough to complain, so why shouldn't SS do similar? It's bloody theft, of goods or time.

Mine was suicide. Oddly, he was related to a workmate of my rock-climbing partner at the time..... Sure, I was a moderator. But as long as they kept it reasonably civil, no-one got censored. You had your say without any interference from me. The line-breeding episode you mention was on another Pet forum you were on, the late unlamented 'Right to Reply'. And you're right. My opinions haven't changed, because no-one has provided any data to persuade me to change my mind. The Flaming issue was with culling. There's plenty on here that don't agree with that, so your point is?

Impressive. I found a body on the moors above Hathersage once. But you DO have a connection with the RSPCA. You were on a forum that contained an officer in said organisation. Well, according to your 'logic' anyway. So, Mr FitzGerald. What has all this got to do with my original opinion that saying the hunting ban had 'destroyed the UK' was getting things out of proportion?

It's hardly 'a connection' to be on a forum with several hundred members. 'Glove in hand'..... C'mon Sean, you can do better than that.....can't you? Your insinuation that I'm some sort of 'anti' trying to infiltrate a hunting site might be attractive to the hard of thinking, but consider this: I've used the same username AND LOCATION on every forum I've been on. Pet ferret, hunting, bike, angling....the lot. And that's not just for the benefit of the Mods, it's info for everyone. So what have YOU got to hide?

Guilty by association? On a forum? You're getting a bit desperate there, maty Of course, those with an enquiring mind might care to speculate how you know I was on a pet ferret forum that had, among the few hundred members, an RSPCA officer. Could it be because the Mighty Leeview was also a member? Under a different username of course.....
  16. Not a school prank, but..... While I was at Agricultural College, we moved a lecturer's Citroen 2CV from the car park into the middle of a flower bed. 8 of us just picked it up and carried it. He should have bought a Land Rover....

Very interesting replies, and good examples of people taking what I've said and extracting parts of it to argue with, whilst ignoring the parts that didn't suit their argument. 'Get it in proportion'....'Catcher'... I am. I strongly suspect that more people have lost their jobs with Woolies going tits up than lost their jobs with the Ban. Wollies going bust hasn't 'destroyed the UK'. I fully understand that losing your job on an individual basis can be disastrous. 'How can you say you are not united with us dog men/women,' .... night moocher....Because I don't feel i have anything in

I didn't say they were bloodsports. But don't let that inconvienient fact put you off your argument

It's not so much 'I'm alright Jack' as resigned reality. People can go on about 'f**k the ban', and getting the ban repealed all they like, and it won't make a gnats' bollock worth of difference. Hunting, as prcatised by people on here has bugger all economic significance. And that's why it was chosen to be banned. it was seen as a low cost (to the economy) politically popular (with the chattering classes/townies) gesture to prove the Labout Party meant business. Fishing was mentioned, so consider this. I can name 4 tackle shops within a 5 mile radius of my house. I cannot name a si

It's an outlook based on living in the countryside half my life, rather than just using it for recreation.

Not at all. I feel sorry for the relatively few people who've lost their livlihood with the ban, and it's always annoying to find your chosen recreation banned. But there's no way I'm 'united' with hare coursers or badger diggers, and I don't think they's lift a finger if fishing was banned. But to say it's 'destroying the UK' is over dramatic.
  23. Patience, and a big bottle of TCP....
