After going through a similar scenario as yourself, (my Hunter boots kept splitting on the back seam), i have now reverted back to the tenner a pair type of thick rubberised material boots that seem to be generic of every high street shoe shop. The higher cost boots such as Hunters etc always seem to be of a thin rubber construction which flexes well, but seems to go on the seams every time. My last pair of hunters lasted me 4 months, my current pair of cheapies have already done a year and are still going strong. It amazes me that Hunters could produce such excellent walking/field boots bu

Good luck in your search, the Itchen is one of this countrys finest chalkstreams and many clubs have very long waiting lists for membership. it really is a case of dead mans waders, it will cost you a fair buck too as most of these clubs will charge the earth for a seasons ticket. Surprisingly though the fishing on the Itchen as it passes through Winchester is free to one and all, Jon Beer wrote an atricle in Trout & Salmon magazine some years back on this free stretch, good luck in your search fin and fur

Not sure if they have a website, i just wish they would stop cold calling me asking if i would like a six month subscription at half price, on a near weekly basis.

Whilst it is true that most vets these adys are more interested in the pounds shillings and pence, there is also another aspect of Bat handling that may very well put a general practice vet off bat handling and thats Rabies. Many bats carry the disease, i think the last person to die from rabies in the uk caught the disease from a bat he released from his fly whilst out on a nights sea trout fishing, so bat handling needs to be done with care these days. The vet probably saw allsorts of health and safety issues flashing before him and thought better of it, you know what health and safe

Thats a real loss for English football, managers like Bobby come along all too rarely these days RIP sir Bobby and thanks for your contribution to the game

Thats a nice fish. I was thinking of giving the Salmon a go this season, probably on a river fairly local which with me living in the south west would probably be the Severn, Wye or Usk. Has anyone any experience of these rivers ? or of the best day ticket beats. cheers fin and fur

my mate has just bought a trap for them and we were wondering if there is any up here in the north east newcastle area Good luck in your search, if the recent number of Crayfish related threads on here is anything to go by then we must be seeing a real population explosion. all the best fin and fur

There is a great deal of truth in this, a small selection of flies which you have in a variety of sizes (i must emphasize the importance of this) will do you fine. Teal blue and silver, Mackrel fly and Medicine etc will all work well and as Tiercel states having confidence in a fly is all important and remember dont forget to keep a variety of sizes of each patterns in your flybox (i can never over emphasize this point) all the best fin and fur

That takes me back a few years, during the debate on hunting with dogs Johnny Scott used to sign all the books that he was asked to sign with the inscription 'bollocks to blair', i'd hang onto it if i were you, thats a real piece of social history you have there. Thats interesting to know, as I have two signed books with Johnnys BtoB inscription and one in which Clarissa has stated, "Together we'll storm the ramparts of Westminister", one i'll hang on to, it's always made me smile. Met them both many times, two of the nicest people you would ever meet, this country don't make 'em like

In my opinion there has been nothing to beat the old Fosters advert, thats the one where the guy has a Feng Shui consultant turn up to work on his apartment and all thats left in the room is a telly, beer fridge, armchair thats seen better days and a loo, call me zane indeed. a top advert although it must be a fair few years since it was last screened. Talking of Aussie influenced adverts, the one that really gets on my tits at the moment is that bloody Shelias wheels advert. 'For bonzer insurance deals, just log onto Shelias wheels', who came up with that one.

Thanks for that, thats brilliant news. I know that a few years back the BBC wouldn't make the material available to either Clarissa Dickson Wright or Johnny Scott and that Clarissa cited this decision as one of the reasons as to why she filed for bankrupcy at the time, it would be nice to think that copyright has finally passed to Clarissa and Johnny and that they are getting a fair buck for their efforts. many thanks Stealthy1

Thats interesting, where did you get them ? could you let us know who markets them or who holds copyright these days ? cheers fin and fur

If you are looking for a hunting knife for less than £30 you are spoiled for choice these days. It surprises me how much quality stuff is available for what in real terms is very little money given the time a quality knife will last you. (which is a lifetime in some cases). I would be looking at a Drop point full tang hunting knife 3.5-4.5" blade, and would probably go for a stainless steel blade for convienence. A quick scan through the latest Attleborough Accesories catalogue shows many such knives in your price range. I would look at something along the lines of a Boker ma

If you can make it as far as Bowood house there is a game fair (the Wiltshire game fair) coming up 2nd weekend in August

These are indeed excellent sharpeners, i have one which i use to sharpen my hunting knives as well as the household kitchen knives. Ihave even used it to sharpen my axes and machette with. an altogether excellent tool

True indeed, and as i say the impartiality of easily led organisations like the theoretically unbiased BBC does not help matters.

Well said, i agree with all of this advice hope the youngster finds a suitable dog all the best fin and fur

RIP Harry what an incredible life to have led, spanning three seperate centuries and seeing some of the worlds most prolific highs and lows. The trenches must have been an awful place beyond imagination, and Harrys role as a machine gunner must have placed him under particular threat. The Germans hated machine gunners for the high attrition rate that they inflicted on their forces and routinley executed any they caught The death of a true Legnd

Jasper Hi as i understood things the unbiased/biased BBC refused to comission a subsequent series of Clarissa and the Countryman following complaints from anti's. They also refused to allow copyright of the previous series to pass to either Clarissa Dickson Wright or Johnny Scott, so the BBC still held copyright and are reluctant to engage in anything that may upset the antis such as making the series available on DVD for instance. Whether copyright is still now with the BBC of has passed to someone else who could make the series available on DVD is something i am not sure of.

Marek, yes we should all try to get along together and have a joint responsibility for maintaining our waterways. However the proposals are that canoeists should have access to all UK waterways without any need to engage in habitat managment of any kind and with no onus on them whatsoever to show a duty of care for the waters that they use for their sport. I have no problem with Canoeists being granted access to certain stretches of water, where their activities can be managed and the damage to habitat is minimal or non-existant. such a policy seems to work well on the river Wye for ex

Maltenby You seem to be missing the point entirley. Grif Rhys Jones is campaigining for total river access for all canoeists on all waters, and there are proposed bills to this effect due to go before the welsh parliment and other bodies in the near future. If these bills are passed then you will see total access to all rivers for all canoeists. these canoeists will not have to pay for river access, there will be no onus on them to care for the waterway in any way whatsoever. spawning redds will suffer, breeding fish will suffer, i am sure you get the picture. and when

I guess thats yet another produce we can relegate to the Lidl's hall of use once and throw away. Along with the crap (seemingly single usage) waders that they were selling last year. Four friends had a pair each, three went through the knees on their first outings and the other had the seams go. Marvelous fin and fur

Thats a good story, magazines (countrymans weekly etc) would pay you money for a story like that if you could pad it out a little
