What is going on with the police and common sence
fin and fur replied to Winchester's topic in General Talk
The link states that the shotguns were removed because of a comment made by their holder that couldn't be ignored. If he said that he was going to take a few pot shots at the vandals then this would be an example of a comment that could not be ignored. It would be interesting to find out what comment resulted in the confescation of the shotguns, but it must have been serious enough and doubtless along the above lines, we all say stuff in the heat of the moment and that may very well have been the case here. -
all our waters are full of the tasty things and i mean full.wasnt any in the local canal until 10yr ago,now its chocka.good eating chaps!! They are indeed excellent eating, witness the cost of Crayfish sandwiches in Waitrose

I like that, i wonder if we will see an MP's expenses claim fielded for specialist removal of the offending article.

If you need to go when fishing, or for that matter whilst engaged in any outdoor activity then the decent thing to do is bury it. Many years back i used to climb and the advice to climbers was always to smear the offending log over a rock, which would allow it to degrade faster, however the sight would be enough to disgust most people in the short term so i always favoured the burying option. As for the other, more general litter there is no excuse, it always surprises me that people will carry weighty tins and bags full of food etc into the countryside, consume the food, and then fail

In all the years i have been fishing i have only rarely seen a crayfish and those that i have come across are the American signal type. If you wish to fish for crayfish then it is worth bearing in mind that the only type that you csan fish for is the American Signal Crayfish as the native British species is now protected. Crayfish plague as spread by the signal has been responsible for the decline, or in some cases the complete eradication of the native Crayfish from British waters. If you wish to fish for them the EA will offer every encouragement, i think you need to approach the

Nice fish, i have often wondered if the Mersey produces the same species as the Bristol channel, both being mud esturays. I see that you have bass and hounds, do you get much in the way of flatfish too, the bristol channel plays host to many and also enjoys a good (well not so good in recent years) cod run too. all the best fin and fur

Thats an interesting question. How long will a flea stay on the body of a dead rabbit ? Are climatic considerations an issue ?, After all a dead rabbit will decompose faster in warmer conditions than in colder conditions I guess the same question could be applied to the flea when it leaves the host, thats to say will a flea see its lifespan increase or decrease in a given set of climatic conditions when it has no host on which to feed ? There must be quite a few variables which could effect the fleas chance of survival when it leaves the host rabbit

I think they went, question is when will man next step foot on the moon. The cost of getting there with NASA bugetary restrictions, (a result of the current downturn) makes it unlikely in the near future which is a shame. Plus i suppose that now it has been done it will be harder to justify the expense involved in future moon landings to your adverage tax paying American. I think it is probable that any future moon landings will be a collaboration between NASA and some sort of private funding, either way it would be good to see man back on the moon again after such a long time.

Too true, there has been little in the way of true countryside/countrysports programmes on the box for the last 4 decades. Jack Hargreaves, Oliver Kite etc, all modern presenters are pale in comparison. there must be someone out there who can front a good countryside programme and some programme maker who has the interest to film one I read in the countrymans weekly a few issues ago that 3 out of 4 British people couldn't identify a Horse Chestnut tree, thats appaling and i think that the vast majority of the great British public who only venture out into the countryside to go to a

Guys if you have ordered from someone who has blatantley refused to sent you the goods after recieving payment, then just inform trading standards or the police who will get their fraud teams on the case if they feel a fraudulant act (obtaining money by deception) has been committed. If this character has been trading as a company that has been wound up then you may not ssee your cash or goods, however if he is still trading as a company or an individual then it may be a different matter altogether, either way the Police will have far greater resources than joe public when it comes to

Where is it stated on Record that Murray hates the English ?, i think this is something whipped up by some of the less than factually accurate elements of the media

Absolutely agree. Ye come back to serve 30 years [bANNED TEXT] paedos get 5 years for abusing kids Sure peados do only get 5yrs, and that is where it is going wrong, Ronnie should do his 30, peado's should do life. (in pain) True enough, Biggs should serve his sentance to the full, he has shown no remorse has escaped from custody once to live the high life and has stuck his fingers up to British justice for decades. he was sentanced and should serve that sentance. Paedophiles should indeed get life, as should Rapists and Murderers, the worst aspect of the criminal justic

Whatever you think of Murray that was one cracking game of tennis, and i doubt if there was anyone watching on ctr court yesterday who didn't think they had their moneys worth. Murray and Roddick seemed evenly matched throughout the game and Murray just never gave in, even saving one match point by pulling an incredible shot out of the bag, unlike most of the British contingent Murray fights on to the end and just never seems to give in and roll over like your adverage Brit. It was nearly laughable to see Tim Henman analysing Murrays weaknesses with the screenbar underneath him stating

I think this incident displays the sort of crass stupidity that you would just not expect from anyone who earns their living as a professional dog handler. I dare say that the handler or handlers concerned are feeling the sort of remorse that non of us could comprehend and have doubtless paid a very high price indeed in terms of the loss of their animals at their own hand, but christ what an absolutley stupid thing to do in the first place. Its true that many handlers take their dogs home and bond with them so that they work better as a team, so the effect of the loss will be felt amon

The law regarding the carrying of Knifes in the UK is not as draconian as it may at first appear Whilst the law states that it is illegal to carry sharp objects such as Knifes there are a few principal exemptions. The first as already stated, relates to cutting length of the blade, with a knife which is of a folding design and has a cutting edge of less than 3" being exempt, you will require no good reason in law to carry such a knife if stopped and questioned by the police. This is what a cutler would refer to as UK legal carry, however it is also important to bear in mind that this

Bow and Arrow casting may very well be your best bet if you have a relativley through to mid action flyrod, i have a 6'6" brook rod for a #3wt line which is just too stiff and usually end up using a 7' #4wt rod that has an action all the way through to the rods butt. Action of the rod is all important as i guess you will be using small flies which will only stay hooked in the fish if you have sufficient spring in the rod to keep a good but light hold on the fish, so this is another good reason for using a through actioned rod. I had a real fun time of things yesterday afternoon with th

Reminds me of a conversation attributed to Winston Churchill whilst he was being obnoxious to a lady guest at a dinner party. Lady guest : 'if you were my husband i would put poison in that drink'. Churchill : 'and if you were my wife i,d drink it'. Politicans just dont come like they used to. -
What a nice looking spot to while away a few hours, and i bet your lad is now on at you for another trip out too. all the best fin and fur

Thats a nice fish indeed, i have only had smaller bass (est 1.25lb tops) when bait fishing. However i have made a pledge to get down to the south coast with a spinning rod, and a fly rod this summer and see if i have any luck. Whilst i accept that the odds are lower of taking a Bass on the fly, they must be great fun and a worthy quarry on a light fly rod.

I have heard that people who reguarly eat marmite get far fewer bites from flies, as the stuff is secreted from your skin via your sweat glands after you have been eating it on a regular basis. as an experiment it may be worth smearing marmite on the cages to see if this works, however i am not sure if it is the marmite content or the effect that it has on your sweat that puts the flies off.

I too saw that news item and was sickened by the cruelty that some people seem to display at random to animals. I guess we will never know who the perpetrators are, but if i had to field an opinion i would say the hedgehogs were victims of either stupid children whos parents have failed to show them the very basics of right from wrong, or ignorant drunks who think its fun to kick a defenceless animal around. The Hares are potentially a different matter, i am making the assumption that they were dead when nailed to the gate post and could therefore have been placed there by poachers who

I too have heard that Ben Collins is the real stig (from a reliable source). The Stig issue aside, wasn't that a cracking programme, seeing that Vincent Black Shadow race the XK120 and the Train was an excellent way to start the new series. I know it came last but if i had to choose out of the Train, XK or Vincent then it would have been the Vincent by a mile. When they were new they were the first production motorcycle to do 150mph, the factory had a test rider whos job was to take them out and crank them up to full chat, how cool a job that must have been in the 1940s/1950s when
