    Most racing whippets are stripped right down in weight as they are handicaped by weight 1 yard per pound so a 30lb dog will give a 20lb dog 10 yards start.

    We net some warrens but leave open holes for the dogs to chace & catch bolters as we are there to catch rabbits the dogs work the open land flushing & catching freely we also lamp without problems on all terrains when i worked the whippets in cheshire/Derbyshire where numbers were low in comparison the dogs were good enough to hold their own & picked up less injuries than the bigger lurchers run with them even on the old quarries IMO due to body weight.

The authors of the study suggest that myostatin mutation may not be desirable in greyhounds, the whippets' nearest relative, because greyhound racing requires more significant endurance due to the longer races (900 meters for greyhounds vs. 300 meters for whippets).

    There are plenty of good working whippets about if you know where to look, IMO a whippet is more than a match for most small lurchers. 28 daytime rabbits. Here is the black dog with his dam both have lure coursed both have won best of breed in a show & the dam has also raced all in a days pleasure. Here is the black dogs son.
