Empty heads breeding litters
moonlighter replied to slip-em quick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you think £325 is a lot of money, your living in the dark ages. If the pups are not bred right, then that’s up to the buyer to do his research, it’s not always the breeders fault. -
Some great looking dogs on here. Does anyone work or own a cocker x beddy. I imagine they would like a bit a cockerpoo but with a stronger body and a better work manner. I’ve got a cockerpoo which I take out and she’s pretty handy. She is bred from a working cocker, but the sire is just a show poodle. She’s a great pet as she dosnt malt and she is very obedient. Walks without a lead, retrieves etc.

I was referring to the 3 in the top picture. Are all the others related too?

Like peas in a pod. How old are they?

It’s gob smacked me

Scrap that.... this ones £3000
-
Ya fooker.. £2000 for this jack russel pup!!

What I sometimes find is the gamekeeper wants nothing to do with me, but the land owner, who offen dosnt shoot wants me to sort out the rabbits and hares. One owns the land, the other rents the area for cover crops.

We caught a milky doe yesterday. Didn’t see any small ones though, or even a dig.

I do a bit of terrier work and ferreting on game shoots and it’s never scares the birds off. What scares the birds off is the shoot the previous weekend, but some gamekeepers don’t get that. A shoot near me shoots the same woods and cover every 2 weeks, yet the gamekeeper didn’t like me ferreting the dykes as it scares the birds lol. Nothing to do with his shoots then

They look great. I’m looking forward to seeing the posts of how they progress, with there training and hunting as they get older. Keep up the good work lads
-
Yea I see them test yesterday. There under the greyhounds

WTF would we know living in England. We would just be guessing. We don’t have the same dogs, game, weather or terrain??
-
There’s cracking. Are you keeping two? Dogs or bitches?

Jigsaw... I’ve really enjoyed this thread. Can you put some recent pictures up of the pup you’ve kept please. It will be good to see

He was the very obedient. Sit, blind stay, perfect recall, but wouldn’t retrieve game. Would retrieve a ball and dummy all day long, but not hares or rabbits. He had a great natural sense of hunting, at been in the right place at the right time. -

My coursing bred dog. Died a few years ago now, but was probably my favourite dog. -
Here’s a few more pictures from some old lurcher dogs I grew up with.

It was my works van.. long before trackers were fitted.. I used to have to clean it every Monday morning before I turned up at work, with the states I got it in.

The saluki cross I had there was probably my best dog in terms of taking and trying most things. I was mad for it then and I hated the bird I was with so I was out 5 nights a week and all weekend too ?

Another couple of Lamping pictures
-
I loved it .... it probably explains why I didn’t get laid till I was 17 , as I stunk of ferrets?
-
I’ve got a beddy/whippet now. Just something to do a bit of mouching and ferreting with. I had coursing dogs before that, but I probably ended up doing more lamping than coursing. It’s a dangerous job though, especially with dogs that will take pretty much anything, and after loosing a couple on the lamp, I choose to tone it down a bit, especially with having young kids and the dogs being family pets too.

I’ve got permission now on a farm, that I used to poach as a kid. When he was showing me round, I though I know more than you do lol, regarding where sets and rabbits are etc... I was hoping that his old game keeper had retired though.. he would have definitely remembered me ?
