  1. was out last night with my mate, lamped in front of us but the dog was pulling to the side, so let her off and she caught the rabbit, have had the same a number of times with larger stuf, if the truth be known she is a far better hunter than me, saying that we walked up to 2 squaters and she did not see them till they moved! hunting hey,,, YIS rob,
  2. i use patt x springer, in truth can be a bit hard, can ruck with other dogs if pushed, also is on the large side for some cover. but saying that he makes most trips out mooching fun! there are a few guys out there breading good stuff, beagle x terrier x cocker that sort of thing. all the best,
  3. I run a deerhound x greyhound and a wheaten x greyhound with my spaniel x and have had some fun. but in truth neither or them like getting anywhere near the cover and are only really any good at catching bigger gear! but it give them fanfastic excersise and keeps them sharp! or sharper than they would be with me just walking them!!! I meet up with a lady at the local country park she was over exercising her rescue lurchers, one was whippet greyhound and the other a very big saluki x. the whippet greyhound was outstanding it would wait to hear the noise from the spaniel on something then b
  4. i have just seen a set of earth dog running dog mags for sale on e blag, complete from no. 1 - 168. just wondered what they would be worth?? i remember reading them years back and would like to buy depending on the price, cheers rob,
  5. I think this is a question the comes up in most dog shows where you have both show ponies and working dogs! If the class is an open class such as over 23" smooth coat, then i would expect judge to go on what the dog looks and feels like on that day at that time. He would need to asses the dogs "perceived" ability to do the job he was intended for based on conformation, alertness and the judges own experience (after all that is why he has been chosen as a judge). I can seen no reason why any amount of "legitimate" scaring should be marked down, and if two dogs are back to back then que
  6. hello mate, Will there be racing on the sunday as well? if so where can i get the show and racing times? As i can not find a wed site for the show? cheers rob,
  7. A perfect match for your lurchers then... sorry fella, could'nt resist... Yokel its a fair point!! i think one rabbit every 4 trips out is very acceptable!! ha ha
  8. 100% mate, my little black staff would chase anything in front of him and could be a real pain with other dogs, no nose at all! my liitle white staff breed down form "rocky my dear" was far better and was good around other dogs, but crap with horses? work that out?? oh and a blue bitch that was just nutts for a ball and feck all else,,, both of them could be a bit posessive over any thing caught, so bare that in mind. i suppose its all down to the dog in question,
  9. i used to take my little black stafford lamping, never caught feck all, but loved trying the best shape i ever got him in. had to be very careful when out with my mates dogs as when ever they caught a "rabbit" he was ok still it stopped moving then would try to nail the lurchers! never a good thing when you want more then one invite out! he used to rush through the cover more for fun than any thing else, but had feck all nose, at 11 years old he still comes out and about but is more intrested pleaseing him self than anything else! but i have know a fair few staffords that would take to bu
  10. i was out one night last week, it was warmish and my deerhund cross had a fairly good run, he chased the rabbit right back to where we stood, then he looked like his front legs just broke, he was having real trouble getting up, i put him in pond to cool down then he was fine. spoke to a good mate of mine, he was just not fit enought to run, my fault for letting him run it, but put the wind up me for a while!! the fecker slept all the way home for a change!!! all the best rob,
  11. great post,, my first lurcher after owning mainly bull dogs from here and over the pond is a deerhound x greyhound, 1st cross put back to a greyhound bitch he is arund 28", he "eric" has had the lucky position of also beign run off the lead through common land and wood land from a young age, he has retreived plenty, although not at the best of times!!! i also run him with my spaniel x pat, great combination. that said it makes him a bit of a pain in the arse when out lamping, he can pull like a train when he wants too. but he can struggle on smallish fields. the main thing i noti
  12. Should make good athletic dogs, all the best with the sale. for pictures of pup go to cosmos staffords web site
  13. buy a rav4 put a set of BFG all terrains on it,, if you want some thing the same size and a soft roader. only issue is they do not do a TDI rav until the later shape? or the vitara TD is a great car, both far better that the freeloader. If you have your hart set on one get a TD4 manual and take the rear prop off, it will not change the off road handling but will reduce fuel costs and save the IRD unit,, all the best rob,
  14. for ref a TD5 tuned by TD alive or twisted developments wil be close on as fast as the V8 and give a lot of smiles! you can get 200BHP +
  15. As has been said above the range rover will be a P38,,, which has the BMW 2.5 engine,, they are ok, but just about every thing will go wrong, air suspension compressor, air springs all round, caliper stick, front hub bearings, then you get into the electronics. I am lucky to be very good friends with the owner of a land rover breakers, he buys in P38's for anything from £200 and due to the amount of sick P38 about they are striped in weeks,,, that said the 4.6 V8 sounds the nuts,, and the special edition vogue its one hell of a car! personally i would go for the TD5 disco, there are load
  16. Hi couple of quick questions, do the sun roofs leak? has it got springs or airbags at the rear? if airbags has it got ACE? and do they stay up over 2 days with no use? has the head gasket ever been done? any probles with the ABS / traction sensors? cheers rob,
  17. jimny is easily the best small 4x4, but may be too small? cheap to up grade and can go almost anywhere! cheap on tax and great on fuel, try to buy a hard top if you can as they are made in japan, the sof tops are made in spain, not as good,, there are a fair few cat d ones about that can make for cheap motoring. oh and they have solid axles which is always a plus!
  18. My advice and i have been messing around with land rovers. discos and defenders for a fair while, purchase an 1998 / 1999 disco 1 300 tdi, auto or manual the choice is yours, but in truth the auto is a great drive, go for lowest milage, and best condition you can get, (i like the XS but the ES premium is very nice. With the remainder of your cash treat your self to poly bushes, 1-2" lift, a set of BFG all terrains, make sure to wax oil the underside, especialy the boot floor, and finally a complete sevice including all oils / fluids. oh and try to avoid sun roofs at any cost! you will be
  19. was it not the BBC that showed the "waterloo cup" last meet? surely that would give him a clue when it was made illegal! twat!
  20. 100% digging and baiting are so far apart its not even worth stating! baiting (keeping an anmial confined and allowing other animals to attack it) of any animal is wrong and should be delt with as a crime! funny as feck last week the farmer guy was kicked in the nuts as he has TB on his farm,, going to loose shite loads of money and he clearly put it down to the amount of badgers on his farm,, best part is the goverment now want the farmers to help vaccinate the badgers? how the feck are they going to do that??
  21. Yokel,,, You are a true gent, and an exceptionally genial host, what a night,, could have done with a touch more rain then we could have diving to the field Olympics! Oh and I think Billy Boy would win the bag carrying event,, that was fecking heavy!!! All the best rob,
  22. The constant belief that no matter what the circumstance you will be victorious and the drive to see it to the its conclusion. but if you are talking specifically what is meant when talking "game dog" it is normally a dog that has gone through some form of "game test" the more interesting question is what is the difference between "gameness" and "prey drive"
  23. here you go brother, a pict of both i managed to nick from a friends album, good dog, glad he has got to a good old age,
  24. the jumping is never the issue, its the landing!!! lol
