These kind of statements are total bollocks. Any good lurcherman knows that breeding/lineage is only 50% of a good dog, the rest is how the dog is brought on. Minshaws have been f****d up by bad entering, same with bull crosses, same with collie crosses and with any breeding in a lurcher. What i'm trying to say is, how many, who's and why do you say Minshaws are wank? What were they getting used for, were they used right? Its a bold statement to say, as lurchers from every breeding can be great but also every breeding produces those "wank" dogs.

I was told by an old girl in a grooming palour that the best thing she used on dogs that came in with fleas was fairy liquid. Not sure if she meant any washing up liquid, but swore by it. i think its more of a remedy, than a precautionary method.

yep thats it. Click "more reply options" at the bottom, right of this screen. then you'll be taken to another screen, and then find where it says "attach files". Under that, click the word "browse". it'll then go into your documents or pictures. double click the pic you want to attach. Then make sure you click, "add to post". After its uploaded the pic (that is under 200kb) you click on "post"

Go on mate...open another big can of worms....lol..just joking. I've had one, and i have her daughter right here at my feet. Neither world beaters, but both filled the bag well for me, however, personally i'd never have another. If you want a first cross collie/grey then you know thats what you'll get from hancock. But parents are not proven(actually never get any work) and they're not socialised, so do end up up with a dog that has issues. But thats not every dog. Go to someone, (plenty of them about) that has a litter from proven parents and have had a better start in life. What do you

I'd have another of her tomorrow.

Andy...this is what she lives for. Some dogs retrieve because they know they have to, but some thrive on bringing it in, head up, tail up there to please ya. Her pace is good, maybe not the fastest on earth. But ya right, i've been told she'd be good on them big rabbits...wink, wink.

Xena has just turned 2. Been brilliant so far and showing some real potential to make a real cracker. When i picked her up i didn't look at her being a minshaw, but what her parents were...chester(sire) and lilly. I knew both were real good dogs and that made my mind up to have her and never looked back since. Just hoping to get some real hard work in front of her this coming season, give her some real tests. roll on the winter!!!! So far she has taken everything, except what bites back. but i'm gonna be patient on that. I put this up, so the thread stays as a minshaw thread. Andy, aga

on hot days, i fill those large coke bottles with water and freeze them. the ferrets will lie by them all day, they love it.

i use the water feeders that you usually find in a chicken coop and never looked back. In winter when they freeze over, simply knock out the ice block and refill. and in summer when you get algea, its really easy to clean out. also holds 10 times more water than a large water bottle. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6kg-ETON-Feeder-6ltr-Drinker-Poultry-Chicken-Hen-Food-Water-Accessories-/150817679944?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item231d6f2a48

i was exactly the same til about 2 years ago, i used to feed the night before and that was it til i back in from a nights lamping. however, since i've changed to feeding in the morning before the nights lamping i've a difference in my dogs and their ability to run that extra bit for me. Dogs derive their energy from animals, so thats what i give as well as brown bread or rice.

i like the look of them, their work ethic and their character....just space is stopping me from having one, give it time tho

Firstly ferrets don't get worms as their digestive tract works to fast. Secondly, most ferrets lose weight and fur at this time of year. If you are overlyconcerned, then get them to the vets, cost means nothing for your stinkers health mate.

does 1/8th of a breed have much affect?
derbylad1 replied to Big Jim101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Erm...it does and it dont.for example... From one litter of say 8 pups, all will be from 7/8th whippet and 1/8th bedlington. however one sibling will be stronger in the beddy to the next. i bred a litter years back. i could work out the fractions from the amount of whippet, collie and greyhound but it aint worth it. some ended showing strong lines of greyhound and some more of the whippet and a couple showing signs of plenty of collie. its just one big game of roulette with this lurcher breeding lark. -
Just got a load of lurcher gear off a lad on another forum. Really good quality and worth every penny. Dont know his name but i think you'll find his website useful. highlandhunters.co.uk Cheers Gaz

Haven't got much planned this weekend, so just wandering if there are any game fairs going on? Saturday or Sunday will do. Cheers

You've clearly read all the comments that everyone has wrote and hopefully you've took it on board for the furture. Howver what to do now????? If its not to late, get them aborted. If you cant be arsed (this is what i'm expecting tbh), then either one or two of the jills will take upon themselves to kill all the kits or you can kill them yourself. But for fucks sake dont try and keep them or sell them on.
-
So let me get this right, this young sapling might not be good enough so you're getting to get some more in. We all know the lurcher game is a gamble when it comes to getting a pup or pups in. What happens when these next dogs come along and they dont make the grade, will you be passing them on too?

Vets...should be there already.

Like i said, build some sort of tunneling system so he has no where to run except back to you. You could even put put his bed behind your knees so he is even more enticed to return to you(trying to get to his bed). So throw the item you want to be retrieved, he'll wanna run with it and hopefully back to you and therefore your able to reward him accordinglly. Also prior to giving it to you, trying holding it in his mouth and giving the command "Hold". It'll take time...but worth it. Whats his breeding mate?

I've always been with direct line(for at least the last 7 years). They've paid out every time, once for nearly 2k, couldn't be happier with them.
-
I've always insured my dogs...worth every penny with the problems i've had in the past. Always insure your lurcher as a crossbreed and never mention the working dog bit.
-
Trying finding somewhere that he has no where else to run, except back to you. Like an alley-way or make something in the house. I think you need to asnwer the questions that have been posed by Beast first.

When it comes to lamping dont double up at all, let it learn from its own mistakes. Pick out easy runs, be selective so that is gives the young lurcher a better chance of catching and therefore building its confidence. Doubling up will knacker up the retrieve training you have put the time into and there is that risk of an accident. When you go ferreting then not a problem, it can be doubled up, as it will learn a lot from an experienced dog (but try and find a good marking and biddable dog to go with) and after a few sessions, take her/him out on their own....just you and the dog. Otherwise y
