  1. The clouds looked good tonight so i had a walk to where i knew was a good pigeon roost. The AAS200 loaded with some Field Target Trophys i have had for a good few years. First shot i dropped a crow on the outside of the wood, then entered the wooded strip and managed to knock over a credible 11 woodies and a rogue maggie. I missed a good few too, unseen hidden twigs seem to attract pellets like bee's to a honeypot! But a good evenings shoot. I was only out of the car about 40 minutes and i would hazard a guess there was 500+ woodies in the roost. Heres a pic of part of the bag.
  2. I can only mirror what others have said. the HW77 is the cream of spring airguns.I have owned three different 77's and i loved them all. Just looking at my diary for 1996-97 season and i bagged 204 rabbits with my HW77. I always liked light pellets in mine, good luck.
  3. Looks very nice. Personally i would not fit a sling, the gun is a light model...
  4. Im just tidying up this article for Hazelnut Monthly.

  5. Acorn World is the future.

  6. You know theres a REAL problem with that slimey toad Jack Straw starts to mention it!!!
  7. "Oh, she's pulling my arm off, let me have it PPLLLEEAAAASEEEEEE!!!!"

  8. Squirrels do not hibernate, they stay active all wonter long. Generally speaking they will be no where to be seen for the first day or two of very bad weather, but in the end they come out to feed. I generally find that they appear within 3 days of snow ,and if we have a couple of days of rain they will be out in force as soon as the weather clears....
  9. Thats a very good range for a .22 matey. Well done.....
  10. Good luck with finding the scum. Brookie, my bet is that its someone who has been to your house, or a friend of someone who has been to your house. Good luck with your dogs.
  11. Hi, i have decoyed a few corvids over the years. Firstly you need a place to shoot from that they cannot see you,Ideally is the inside of a vehicle or a dark shed where you can move without being seen. I use a dead squirrel and open the belly and place the carcase in your shooting range. Do not try to lure them too close. Better to have the magpies 30 yards away and relaxed that 20 yards and hyped up. I always leave the magpies a day to feed on the carcase, and often two days., Also worth remembering, have a carcase spare in case a fox nicks your bait carcase during the night. You won't kill h
  12. Piano man, i think they have just become more urban maybe??...who really knows. Going back 20 years a good nights bag for us with the pigeons was 6 or 8, but today i can do that number without trying. Its a funny one!
  13. This is what a magpie silouhette looks like.
  14. Another little tip... Hang a couple of bird feeders up near by, you will lure squirrels and jays in too. You know what those Squirrels are like, they cannot resist a bag of nuts.
  15. I have seen a few 'unbelieveable' things over the years. My mate, Gary, once shot two jays with one shot. I have shot two sparrows (many years ago) with one shot. Once fired into a squirrels drey and one silver bundle fell out onto the floor with a pellet to the head, the other managed to clamber up the tree trunk , obviously shot, to be given a finisher!. I once shook a drey at night and seven squirrels came out, i killed six but the seventh made it away. Loads of other things that i can't remember..... (old age!) p.s, just to add Pianoman, i believe there is more woodies around now t
  16. Good Result, Don't forget, you only need ONE good tree on your permission and you'll never be short of woodpigeon shooting.
  17. My AAs410 was quite stiff too for the last part of the 'stroke'. It still shot like a dream. It was always a little bit stiff, but nothing to worry about. Personally i would put a few tins through the gun and see what you get ...
  18. Hi Pianoman, i might continue this thread over the coming months and tell a few little things i have learnt about the magpies. One thing for certain is that they do not like high trees. Some of the top roosts i used to really shoot a lot of maggies from some 20 years ago are now gone. The silver birches have gotten too big and the magpies dont like them. Some of the old roosts only hold half a dozen birds, but now i have the buzz to wipe the local magpie population out again i can see me finding them once more. The best place last night was a patch of an acre or two of spindly oak and birch wi
  19. Had a walk tonight with my mate. I had it in my head to try and break my record of 21 maggies. The sky wasn't good and got progressively worse but we managed 17 before i decided to quit. Also saw many dozens of woodies and ignored most of these except five, one of which was very poor and was left for fox food, the plump four are for my food. Visited some old roosts and it was plain to see that some places the maggies have moved, so i will have to do more rooting about to find them before i make a record attempt again. Watch this space! lol. But with 17 maggies and 5 woodies in the bag it
  20. Domed/pointed/flat-head...There has always been a debate. personally i have always plumbed for domed. Two of my favourites being RWS Superdome and Long Range Gold, though i have used practically every other type on the market without seeing any better results. I think that pellet choice is a personal thing, and the most important thing is that you are confident with your pellet. One thing worth bearing in mind, no matter what kit you buy, what rifle, what scope, what pellet, the most inconsistant part of the whole shebang will be the person holding the rifle. I recently dug a superdome out o
  21. The first thing is that i doubt if the chap has 14 white Sika in his sights. I would hazard a guess that they are fallow. A white Sika is a very rare beast indeed, but 14! Just a thought...
