  1. Just read the litter was PTS. Sorry! Hope your daughter gets her pup one day
  2. what he says is true, he has had numerous jobs, him an his oldman worked as sheep farmers,he also told porkys about his driving fo some odd reason, theres lost kids.......and here blatent bullshitters, i have no time for either. i think the litter is out of your choclate dog dean29, there far to bully to be bred te other way, from what ive seen, and little timmy is an ANTI........ HES AN ANTI FEMALE..............loves abit of man sweat He reckons he's had a dna test and his dogs the father but he has no proof of the test ever being done. Im pretty sure a DNA test costs more than £
  3. I joined ages ago but haven't really had a good look round the site until now! Thought I'd say Hi My name is Jacqui and I'm from Astley near Manchester. I have racing whippets and me and my friends organise Westhoughton's Whippet and Dog racing club. We also race at the Gin Pit (A&T Miners in Tyldesley). (Details are in the events section) I used to show dogs as a kid (manchester terriers and dobermanns) then got into racing whippets. I like Lurchers a lot and enjoy reading the stories on here. We've also lined our studs to lurchers needing some extra pace. I'm quite keen to see if a
  4. I think he's the best dog man in the country. 6hr drive there and back for me and think he's well worth it. Not only that but all my dogs love seeing him and I believe my racers wouldn't of done half as well if it wasn't for George's input.
  5. Which is what I was going to say. If you line 2 pure breeds, genetically the offspring will have 50% of both parents genetic material. When you start breeding what's equated as 1/2's, 3/4's 7/8's to one another your on dodgy ground because what's on paper and what's being expressed (as in how the dog looks) can be very different. From a genetic point of view, a 1/2 greyhound lined to a 1/2 greyhound can produce a dog that is genetically 100% greyhound. It's a dilemma often posed in whippet racing which causes much debate. My opinion is generally what you see is what you get and so long as t
  6. Apologies Skycat, was typing whilst you posted, but seems were both singing from the same hymm sheet
  7. My opinion (for what its worth) is the dog might have carpal subluxation. I would walk the dog on different substrates i.e. pea gravel, grass, mossland, sand. I would avoid walking on flat surfaces e.g. road walking / pacing around concrete floored pens/ running round on laminate floors etc The dog needs a complete food designed for large breeds. Don't go mad on the protein levels either. You can try supplementing but these complete feeds are carefully designed to give a specific amount of nutrients designed for the growth spurts a larger pup can go through. Limit evening exercise to 45mi
  8. Yes it helps. Can I ask what are you feeding and has bonemeal been provided? Just a quick experiment. If you hold the pups paw and bending it at the wrist bring the paw towards the elbow, how far will it comfortably extend? If your pik with the dogs legs straight is 6 o'clock and you bend the paw, on a clock will it look like 3 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc. I'm not taking the piss by the way! Genuine reason for getting you to do this.
  9. Have you got any better photos? I take it bonemeal has been provided during the pups growth?
  10. Main issues with a geriatric bitch, difficulties with labour if unfit, slow progression through labour stages, poor milk production and eclampsia. If the bitch is relatively fit, is not prematurely aged (like the case can be with some pedigree dogs) and the owner is vigilant there is no reason why it should end up a complete disaster. It's not ideal, the risks are higher but lecturing right from wrong will not save the bitch or the pups. Pups have already been lost in this litter, I'd like to think that alone is enough heartache without us giving criticism. If you are desperate to get these
  11. Was the jab for herpes infection? Quite common with litters loosing a lot of pups within first 48hrs? Generally low birth numbers/ still borns or failure to conceive are other clues. From what I recall, I think treatment is best prior to conception but pointless me mentioning this now. Is the bitches milk bloody of are her teats overtly hot or lumpy? i.e. mastitis? What's the symptoms of the pups? It's a shame your loosing pups but their symptoms and the time period with which their dying in are clues, please discuss with your vet. There are various treatments that could give the pups a fig

Lovely work! Will cross post on a whippet site I quite like the acrylics, think I'm going to have to drop some rather large hints to me OH!!!
  13. I've gutted rabbits quite a few times. I hadn't a clue first time and my OH was away. I found a good video on you tube!
  14. Don't suppose you watched Horizon tonight? It ended with scientists saying that the whole universe and all that stuff just seems too contrived to be a coincidence. Not so much ''they created the animals'' and all that malarkhy but that all the elements were put into place to make life form. Ironically, Charles Darwin, held this theory also. All I can say is thank god for Ben & Jerry's ice cream cos I went and mulled over a tub of that and felt a whole lot better!
  15. Stick with it. Regardless of whatever tales your ex is telling her, she will, with age, make up her own mind about you. If you give up she's left to think everything she's been told is true. I've been a step mother to 2 lads and I can't stress enough that the truth will out if either parent is manipulating their child.
  16. He's certainly a person I ''rate'' and to my knowledge he's still a speaker at the world greyhound racing injury congress
  17. Owning a bully whippet makes you an expert on cramp!! Like's been said fats help because they help the body retain salts which is why they are useful. Tomatoes help prevent cramp to a certain degree but if neither works then the use of electrolytes can be helpful. Betacel is an electrolyte powder sprinkled onto feed which is high in ascorbic acid. Re-charge is a drink supplement you add to water which I use routinely between races on the racers. None of these worked with the bully whippet but we found relief with horses Tye-Gard which she has 0.5ml per day with her feed. Some may su
  18. Definately worth a trip to the vets. If they're particularly lax they'll be able to manipulate. They may suggest x-raying which is probably worth doing when you consider the possibility of her doing it again and it not relocating into the socket. Not sure about hips but I know with patella's, efforts can be made to strengthen the ligaments to try and prevent it repeating. (usually lead walking and hydrotherapy) I think the latter might not be allowed with hip injuries though. Like's been said, don't do any kind of exertion with her for the time being. If she has had a dislocation the ligament
  19. Might be too large for your needs but we contacted Hanson Garages. They provided us with a full concrete building without a garage door (just a side door for access) We made a good saving via their sales on ebay.
  20. It depends what you mean by overmuscled. If you mean double muscling (myostatin mucle related hypertrophy) then yes these dogs don't demonstrate speed very well. I own a ''bully whippet'' as they are known. She's incredibly muscular to look at but the muscle mass is so big for her body that basically her blood supply can't fulfil the demands of the muscles on her. If she goes to run she will power off from a start quite impressively but within moments she has to slow down because she is getting muscle fatigue. She wasn't intentionally bred, it was an accidental mating where we had to have DNA
  21. We have a combination. The dogs have their own room in the house and we have kennels as well. I tend to find some dogs won't settle with the comings and going of us in the house and prefer their own space in the kennel. (literally bouncing about if you go to put the kettle on) Others just won't settle in a kennel and I find it effects their racing which is why they all get the choice.
  22. Wasn't replying specifically to your post Bosun 11, more the discussion as to whether either ability is bred or trained into dogs.
  23. Your neither wrong or right. Animals can be born with either equal amounts of fast and slow twitch muscle fibres or a predisposition to one type. Dogs born predisposed to sprinting will have a greater amount of fast twitch muscle fibre. Dogs with stamina will have a greater amount of slow twitch fibre. Dependant upon the type of training done, a particular type of fibre can be stimulated. However if a dog is naturally a sprinter (i.e. large muscle mass) a trainer will be at an instant disadvantage trying to train this type of dog for stamina and vice versa. I'm not saying it cannot be don
