There was and overall winner Wally needs to come and pick their goodies up. Got some photos to add when I've edited them. Thanks to all those who came, the lurcher racing was great and I particularly loved seeing the Munsterlanders run We have another event for lurchers round about March, I'll add details closer to the event but for those interested, we have club racing and trialling at westhoughton sunday afternoons. This sunday (7th November) we'll be starting at 1:30pm. -
WESTHOUGHTON WHIPPET and DOG RACING CLUB

Experienced bend racing dogs only for racing please. That being dogs that have run a bend in company, safely and will tolerate wearing a muzzle. Inexperienced dogs are welcome for trialling but this will be between racing. If your dog is poor at recall, or it's your dogs first ever trial it may be better to attend our sunday club racing where there'll be more time available for both you and your dog. -
Hiya Glad you all had a good day! Sorry we was late and a bit disorganised but it had been quiet past few weeks and we'd strolled in! Piks are fab! I'll bring my kit next time you come and get you some action shots I've emailed Roy to see if I can get hold of his photos. Your dogs were brill and took to racing really well for the first attempt and they seemed to love every moment of it! We're not racing this sunday as we rent the track and most of the club members are racing at a whippet racing event at Highgate. Sunday 31st October is our racing open. Lepto can cause internal bleeding just like Parvo. There are other diseases that can also produce similar symptoms. Conclusive proof would be with an autopsy. I wouldn't get a pup for at least 12 months. The viral load (how much infection is present)on your premises if it is parvo will be at phenomenally high levels and you cannot sterilise your property. You can reduce the amount of viral load with various disinfectants but the best method is time. If you do get another puppy you will need to ensure it is vaccinated and ideally the breeder retains it until immunity is acquired. Le

I would do both. Finish the meds to get the inflammation down then take them to either a chiropracter / dog man for manipulation incase the muscles and ligaments haven't gone back into alignment. Be careful who you choose and go on recommendation as there's some out there who are very heavy handed and can cause your dog a lot of pain.

My mate's been hit a number of times. He also has game chickens. He shows them and unfortunately the addresses of entrants are required at events / game fairs etc. Whilst some on here are obviously clueless, the fact is these people spend a lot of time and money looking after their birds and though some might think the cost irrelevant the fact is you can never get back the time, no matter how rich you are. It's extremely difficult to secure these birds because they are best conditioned on free land. He tried using a gaurd dog, they came and battered the dog with an iron bar so badly it had se

Let your dog off with no-one around at the begining of your walk. A lot of the time, running dogs need to blow off for first 10 mins. Have a handful of biscuits in your pocket or something exceptionally tasty like dried liver. Use it only for special treats. Randomly, recall your dog, give treat. Don't come, no treat. Still not coming? hide as it puts the wind up some. Still not coming? walk over to dog, still calling and if they take the mickey, get them on the lead and tell them off. If they've really took the mick, they don't get let off till next walk Running round chasing your dog can

When you go the vets, ask them to examine for any injuries. If the dog is scared and cowering when the vet examines, ask him to document this along with the fact that even though your dog was scared, it didn't retaliate. Again, stick to the truth and the facts, that is all the court is interested in. It irritates them if they're inbetween a battle of ''he said, she said'' and it's all irrelevant to the actions that have occured. The 'victim' is doing a fine job with inconsistencies because they're lying. It'll be apparent to everyone. He can say the dog was a 2 ton savage rottweiler an

i was reported to the DSPCA over my dogs

Ooo! I like you!!! -
The Dog's trust offer third party liability insurance for free when you become a member. Membership is £20 per year. It's extremely handy to have if your a dog owner and your money is going to something worthwhile if your lucky enough to never need it. They'll insure up to ten dogs but none on the dangerous dogs act. http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/giving/membership/default.aspx If you do have a problem that requires legal advice with regards to your dog, I would recommend these http://www.doglaw.co.uk/ Might be worth pinning these somewhere.

i have no problem showing them my kennels mate but if i did'nt let them in they would have thought i had something to hide They think that anyway. Dave is right tell them where to go. If they've got proof they'll prosecute. If they haven't then they have no right to keep harassing you. Tell them this, tell the police this and tell your solicitor, depending on how far you want to take matters. If you take it all the way to court and they see it as harassment, the DSPCA will have to divulge who is behind it. some jealous b@stard trys feckin the lad about by false allegations and som -
Well I thought that before you even said this. Reasonably, what do you think a court's going to think of him?!!! We're talking about a what 18lb? patterdale terrier nipping him on the ankle at worst? In a dog fight that he chose to intervene in! TBH I'm with the person who mentioned countersuing over the couple assaulting your dog. I bloody would!

Oh and tetanus isn't treatment for a dog bite. If he's really seen a Dr they'll have enquired if he's up to date with his tetanus. If he is, he'll of had no treatment if he hasn't he'll of been boostered. Either way if he's lying it shows his injury wasn't serious enough to seek medical attention and if he's telling the truth, the injury will have been documented because Dr's have to by law. and it still doesn't proove which dog bit him either.

Oh that's even better! Make sure you pass this info on!

Honesty is the best policy. You get caught out, you really will be f****d up and down by the court. You need to be more detailed on what's gone on. For example if you had a young dog you was actively training and it naively went to another dog despite your demands to recall then at least your intentions were good. Details like your dog, it's age, the ''victim's'' dog and age etc. Witnesses count so chase them up for support. The other owner will be playing the 'your dog bit them and it was unprovoked' line which falls under the dangerous dogs act. Arguing that they hit your dog will just

Sounds to me like you have enough work for 3 dogs, whether your home can accomodate them is something you should consider. The beauty of having another dog (presuming you get your other one back) is that there'll be times when one is injured and you can be tempted to run when the dog is resting. If you've got 2 there's less pressure (if you see what I mean) Don't loose hope though. My friends dog was stolen from his smallholding years back. He went in person to the dogs homes and sure enough they was reunited. (Dogs home had him down as a fawn lurcher, dog was actually a brindle whippet) Yo

Just to save you a bit of hassle, mix the beta 50/50 with the excel so it's a gradual change over. Some dogs get an upset tum with food changes.

Creatin has no part to play in a developing 16 week old pup. I'm not sure what research you did but I've yet to see any evidence whatsoever of it benefitting a puppy. It's purpose is to develop increased muscle mass in the athlete and more importantly aid in muscle recovery. I personally would sack the Red Mills Excel off. If you know anything about protein and dog food you should know that the protein source is more important. Hooves, claws, nails all contain protein but they are not easily utilised by the body. Feeding high protein that is poorly sourced puts the dogs metabolism under strai

Anyone good at doing percentages?

Spot on. After first crosses, I personally think your better choosing your lining by the eye rather than on paper. -
manchester terrier, anybody work them?
Wild Whippies replied to redda09's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Hope folk don't mind me bumping this back up. My first dog was a Manchester Terrier. Back in late 70's my Mum got her from Grimsby. I was only 4 and she was a bloody brilliant little dog. I hadn't seen a ''manny'' for decades after but when I did last year I was mortified at the appearance of the ones I seen. I just wondered if anyone has any piks of theirs to share as the bitch I had was nothing like the one's I've seen recently! I should find some old piks of her and get them scanned on here. -
I agree and is usually related to a lower gastrointestinal infection. Pasta is known to effect dog's absorption if they have gluten intolerance. Rice is a suitable alternative.
