Why Am I Such A Bad Shot With A Shotgun!!!!
midnight replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Most guns shoot 60% of there pattern above the bead 40% below . So sounds like its about right . Coaches say to shoot the legs off rabbits to get head shots . Sounds like everything is ok , it's just going to take practice . Lots of shells and start enjoying it and stop thinking to much . If it patterns like you say just stay conscious of that let everything else be natural . It's unlikely the pattern was I the problem With missing close stationary targets so don't worry about the choke either . Although I'd got with a tighter choke for crows . Start enjoying it and it will all fal -

Can 3" Chambers Be Bored To 3.5"
midnight replied to midnight's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
f**k me toby calm down mate !!! I have a habit of buying guns so thought I had the new excuse I need to get something . As far as I know nothing is wrong with 3" . Iv been reading loads about non toxic shot and steel being the most realistic priced option I looked into that more , from what I understand the extra 1/2 allows you to have a few extra shot in the cartridge = improving my chances especially with large shot size for geese . On the lake I'm happy to shoot my game gun with normal bismuth or steel loads ,but you make a good point on patterning with sub3" loads . Thank you the -

this pair are for coonboys eyes first as i still owe him first refusal . there made of nickel steel and spring steel . this is the last ever hand forged knives from me ,iv damaged my arm and can no longer do it , iv sold my anvils etc so there is no option to do it again . i can use a blacksmith friends power hammer when i want to but the cost go up and im to skint to aford it so i have to say his is the last for a long time . no sheaths on them because iv run out of leather and cat afford any of that either . so just a pair of knives from me . corian handles and brass fittings , with -
For heat treating a big propane torch into a well lined box will work a treat . You will only need ceramic wool to line that Steve . The lighter the refractor the better on light fired forges , because anything mortar based takes up alot of fuel to get to heat and keep it there . You could use two army ammo boxes .one for clean motor oil to quench into and one as your forge . Cut two holes in the forge one , one at the end to feed work in to the forge , and one in the middle on the side for the torch . Line with ceramic wool and insert the nozzle of the burner , lighter her up wait 5 min

Ok this is a big and old topic but I think it's fair to say most options work but not all of them very well . A few things to think about are , what fuel charcoal / coke . Charcoal is easy to come by and looks cheap initially , until you use it then you go throught loads of it very quickly . It only has a few down sides . It burns very very hot and unless you know how to work it will burn or melt your blank very fast , also it sparks like hell. . The sparks are super heated and stick to you and burn til the fuel in it has been burnt . It pops and a shower of sparks goes in all directions .

Another Midnight Blade Finished.............

Looks really nice ! I Make a nice blank I recon , what blank is it matt ? Looks like a fieldcrafter ? Edit iv just looked again and it's got a false edge , so I'm not sure now . Either way it looks great -
I agre I think pigeons eat rape but don't actually like it or get enough from it to risk feeding on it if there is any danger , not like drillings they just can't help coming in . We shot a wheat field the other week, and we could shoot one, the rest lift off then just do a circle and decoy in again . One field over is a rape field. the same Birds came in once then that was it . I wonder if its worth the hassle ?

hi fellas good reveiws all round then !! ok first is outlaw petes ok this is forged from high carbon steel and nickel steel for the cutting edge and a large bolt out of a horse drawn carrage thats rotted away on a properrty i know of for thupper part of the blade . its very very old proper wrought iron , wich i very early basic metal that has lots of impuraties and badly graded iron in its make up . this when twisted and forged then etched has its on amazing pattern. i have used that for the spine of the knife as was done for hundreds of years when steel was a rare material . it a -

Due to a miscalculation on My part looks like i wont be back on the building work until July . So your stuck with me a little longer yet . Really trying hard to get money for a laser cut order together !! -
I'd pattern it and see what happens then . I use the huge puddles that are on the fields at the moment . Stand back at 30 yards do a nice constant gun mount and aim for something that will remain the same even if you hit it ( grass or stubble above the water line usually) I think it will be gun fit and gun mount that's the problem , it was for me a good friend and pretty much everyone else that suffers the issue . Iv not replied because I think of myself as knowing alot , it's just I had this exact same problem with a couple of guns recently . There is some great tutorials on gun moun

I talked to a man in the know he said Remington 1100 to , you can pic them up for under £200 then get a proper gun smith to service it and fit any worn parts for new . And you will never look back , I hear the cycle any loads all day . I bet your £700 budget would cover all the above and you would still have half left , you can buy a couple of thousand shells with the rest ! And still have change .

We have a theory that you need the sunshine ,every good day iv had on my own or with company seems to have been bright ? I worked a long day yesterday to try to get at them this morning . Nobody can moan at one day a week off !

Thanks fellas . All the fields I have acces to are dead . I'm back to shooting crows on there way to roost . Doing that has accounted for half of my 76 crow kills . I got one tonight and missed loads more chances . I was to early tonight and got distracted then was not concentrating when the turned up . Just before sunset and just after seem to be the times to be on wait .
