  1. just bring one feret in to start with, sometimes 2 or 3 is too much and the dog may get over excited. keep the dog on a longer leash(letting her think she is off but actually you still have her under your control) and if she shows any attention a sharp tug and LEAVE! will let her know the ferret is off bounds
  2. how long would you leave it before re-ferreting a bury ? The reason I ask is I popped out for a couple of hours with a dozen purse nets and one ferret, and stumble on a 30 hole bury. I gave it a go but clearly not enough artillery so after bolting a dozen bunnies decided to leave it and come back with the equipment to do it proper. Will the bunnies now leave that bury as the scent of the ferret will taint it?
  3. mates dog had been steady with ferrets, then one day when bunies were bolting the ferret had come up and the dog picked him up and there was a lot of squealing . The dog got a sharp rap across the snout! and a LEAVE!!! from that moment on he has shown no attention to ferrets, and this was the only instance. we put it down to a young dog being excited with bunnies bolting all over the shop. Point I am making is if your dog has not been introduced at an early stage , you will need to introduce him/her very carefully under controlled conditions, perhaps in the house where room is limited .

  10. This is the one i miss the most this bitch died in a fire in my kennels aged 3, the best dog i have owned so far for hares, bring's a lump to my throat looking at this old pic. sadly missed. jeez, that hound is freakishly like my mutt!! 3/4 hound, 1/4 collie??
  11. I have seen a couple of whippets working and I am impressed with them as a ferreting, bushing, snatch type dog. But I have also seen em on quick short terrain and they just dont seem quick enough, along side a half cros or 3/4 cross grey. Ok they can turn but just dont have the top end. Does any one else have this opininon, or is it just me?
  12. my dog jumps reluctantly after having an accident during jump training. he now only jumps on command. . . . . more by accident than design but it works for me.

  15. I agree with comment above. tis very difficult for any dog to come to terms with its quarry in woods, let alone a young animal that your starting. keep her away from the woods and start her on some "easy" bunnies
