My 3 year old 3/4 hound 1/4 collie broke off one of his lower canines. I went to my vet who immediately said it has exposed the nerve and would need removing!! Any way I decided to get a second opinion. This vet sugests the removal is a a bit drastic as the dog is not showing any signs of distress ie. dropping or off it's food, salivating, pawing the site of the broken tooth, and recommends letting nature take it's course. I am erring on the opinion of the second vet. Has any body had a similar scenario and what was the outcome ? Thanks in advance

I use tesco's basic cover up to £2.5k i think under a tenner a month. I dont tell em it's a lurcher or a working dog just a x breed. there a bit slow in stumping up the cash but never ask any questions

interesting topic. for the layman (average lurcher owner) a minefield to extract useful info me thinks. . . .

Sandy, i have always read your posts with great interest as they always come across as well informed and backed up with some sound evidence. I use recharge after my running dog suffered from a mild bout of exertional rhabdomyolysis (have I spellt that right?) after the advice of a an ex greyhound vet (based in honiton, not so far from you I reckon). So far I have not seen a repeat of the ER, so from my perspective I am fairly hapy that the recharge is having some beneficial effect. Any ways, looking at your strap, I reckon your probably a similar age as me, so if ever your kicking your h

I use Recharge. However it is not a good idea using horse electyrolytes for dogs as dogs sweat differently to horses therefore the electrolytes they require are different . . . see cut and paste from Recharge RECHARGE Oral Rehydration Concentrate for Greyhounds Special Features Recharge for Greyhounds is one of the most successful greyhound specific products worldwide. The name "Recharge" is applicable to a product that rapidly replenishes electrolytes and fluids after travelling and racing. The product lives up to its name in providing a rapid restoration of fluid and vitality a

they dont normally come with stats, but you can wire one in remotely, but to be honest they give out very little heat the stat would rarely kick in. as previously said they are to take the edge of the room temp. if you look at the link the small one is 60 watts , equivalent to a light bulb.

"mush" hahahah good old 'ampshire saying, but do yiu know wehere it came from?

"l give the dog 8 eggs an hour before l go ". . . this is interesting. I assume the eggs are for the protein they hold, but Im not sure it hits the system this quick to be of help? Perhaps you can enlighten me. Just for your info I had a discussion with an ex greyhound vet and they suggested I administer 5ml of recharge with 1/2 cup of water just before working.

what food do you have it on? some commercial foods can drive em scatty. I had a half cross collie grey and had it on a barf diet until the vet gave me such a hard time about the diet and so put it on a commercial food. the dog went scatty in a matter of 3 - 4 days!! After 10 days I got it back on barf and he settled down within 48 hrs. Lesson firmly learnt re: listening to a vet that is sponsored by a commercial dog brand. . . . that is dont listen to them!!! Good luck!

I agree with the comments on removing the beef from the diet. Beef is one of the the most common food allergies. . . . by the way thats a nice looking dog you have there, what mix is she?

. . . . just thought I would give an update. I initially washed out with salty water, and after some of the advise above I bout some purple spray and wound powder. On lead walks I strapped it up with vetwrap but removed once finished. I had one small set back when I let him the back for a a ron riss, when he bolted after a squirrell. The tear opened up but not too bad. After two weeks all was loking good so I took him for a brief shine (strped up with vet wrap). He had 3 runs and nailed 2 bunnies. got him home and all was good. Had another couple of short sessions with him with no prob

I had a adult dog done a few years ago, he didnt get out working for 3/4 weeks minimum. You will know when is right
-
Hi What do you guys use for torn stoppers? I washed them out with salt water and the dog is keeping them clean with licking. My preference is to leave it open to let it heal but I'm open to suggestions. How long will it take to heal, and do you strap them up when working and what with? Rgds D

spotted a pair of eyes in the beam one night at about 70yds. The grass was still long and the Dog was still young so kept them in the beam and walked the dog up. Another pair of eyes appeared! Kept walking in and got to about 30yds, when a voice said "sorry mister we wont do it again!" I walked in to find a young couple partly dressed on a blanket doing what you do at 11pm on a dark Sept night. "Ok " I said "finish what your up to and bugger off, this is private land" . . . . . . . . . well what else was I s'posed to say!!
