  1. Hav'nt owned a TV for years (OK I do see other peoples from time to time ) and since giving it up I no longer get wound -up by lying B*stard politicians,"House-mates "who should be gathered together in the Big-Brother jacuzzi and made to play water-polo with an electric toaster, American military propaganda or the fact that no-matter how attractive a weather-girl is ,she always appears on the screen fully dressed. Hence my list is a bit mundane. In no particular order;TV - 90% of it anyway. Dangling/tangling electric cables (OTC )
  2. Fair question if you don't know. 410 pistols are, if Certified correctly , legitimate and ideal little tools for humane dispatch of snared /trapped foxes etc.Hope this helps
  3. I have given blood three times and almost certainly will again. I suffer from very bad fear of needles which I know is stupid as wounds from black-thorns ,brambles , barbed -wire and fish-hooks go virtually unnoticed. First time I gave was as much in an attempt to overcome this fear as from any social concience. Tried accupuncture for the same reason. To anyone who would like to give blood but dislikes needles I'd say that the whole experience was ,for me at least , very different from the terror of being approached by a syringe-toting nurse in a "hospital" situation . That come

    redundancy

Its rotten luck. Years ago, I remember being told two weeks before we were made redundent that despite the rumours our jobs were safe..... Still if he's been layed -off early he will have the time to check on his rights and if the Reciever is involved there is every chance of things being done by the book and being properly accountable. Probably take time though. Luck with his finding a new job
  5. No help bait wise and a little off topic but at our regular sea-fishing port their remains on the local statute -book a rule banning the landing of Skates and rays unless they have been cut-up and winged. This was originally to save the blushes of gentle-folk who might have caught a glimpse of their prominent human-like genitalia.
  6. I guess the effective depth of the .303 (and I was only quoting the experiences mentioned in an old book) against pike is as much to do with judging the effects of refraction as the actual penetrative powers of the round. After -all , pike make a fairly narrow target. The talk of spearing reminded me of one our brief school-holiday crazes. Catching eels with dinner forks. Little bootlaces would be stabbed with an un-modified ,straight from the cutlery -draw item. For bigger prey we had a second fork with one prong broken off. The eels did'nt actually get punctured. Being so firm and mu
  7. sadly I now have an image of you accosted by a policeman at 2 am on the towpath.Surrounding you would be a collection of of old poaching books, hook-adorned planks, nets ,sticks with wire loops ,a lamp, spears, tubs of ground Datura, ancient and rusting tins Cymag, various calbre fire-arms and an air of innocence. The policeman will of course accept that you ,"simply have to find out for yourself", and after a word asking you , "not to flash the lamp about too much because it was disturbing the carp fishermen" , he would potter off whistling the theme to Dixon of Dock Green..Oops ,showing my age
  8. Remember reading one of my Dad's old trout fishing books.Apparently "pike are easily snared" ,a shot-gun is usefull for pike in the shallows and a .303 is effective up to a depth of three feet!

    TV & Movies

Back in the 60's a bit of dr Who was filmed on our railway bridge , another episode at a derelict cement works. One mate was an extra in Quadraphenia as a Rocker because he had a suitably old bike.. More recently another friend appeared in an episode of Time-Team chatting to the "The One with The hat with the pheasant tail"(Dunno is name) when they filmed in the local pub. This was after the experts had "discovered" the remains of a Roman settlement nearbye.... Discovered !....My ar*e . The name of the blooming place is "Roman Gate"!..Bit of a give-away.
  10. One of those old-fashioned, great -big six "U2"battery police torches.Hold it above shoulder height and shine it straight into their eyes and preferably leg-it.Only bring it down as a truncheon as a last resort but if you do don't hold back ! Any powerfull ,eye-burning lamp will give you an edge .
  11. Crikey, how long did it take you to get that picture? Did you have to take a load and pick out the best ?. Neat picture of a nippy little creature.
  12. That's an "honest " picture JD. Don't apologise for it's quality ,.100 times better than my " picture" of a bat in flight !
  13. It can sometimes help if you practice a few retrieves at night, using the lamp to spot the dummy .Hopefully the dog will learn to associate working down the beam with something to chase. And you are perfectly right about my dog getting at least 30 of your rabbits..In my dreams!
  14. Whippet/ saluki plus the usual hint of the unknown! Looks a bit weedy compared with a lot of the crackers on here.
  15. Spect you've done this but try to work out the source .Too late for you but it might help nip a local out-break in the bud. Hope your others pull through .
  16. If all else fails have a wander round your nearest "metal recycling " yard. Even at todays scrap prices a bit of mesh is'nt going t break the bank. TheOne is dead right about that porta-cabin /security grill heavy duty stuff .Worth considering if foxes are liable to scratch at your pens.
  17. AS everone says if you let the rabbits cool the fleas drop off . Out of interest rabbit fleas favour the spot by the ears and tend not to move much once they have taken a feeding hold .So if the ear area is free of fleas it is unlikely that there are many if any on the rest of the body. So ,I'm an anorak!
  18. Never drunk much but it's never taken much to have an effect! . As a teenager, according to my mates , I'd become amazingly and overbearingly polite . Middle-agedwomen would be making for the pub exit when suddenly this long-haired ,leather -clad oily, smelly, drunken greabo would hurl himself aggressivly toward them ...and hold the door open. Ditch's mention of a chainsaw reminded me of one of the stupidest things I've ever seen a drunk do. Fire-work cum Halloween fancy dress party. A mate turns up late and p*ssed with a running chainsaw (minus chain I add) ,wearing a horro
  19. Body does'nt seem deep enough but that could be the reproduction .Silver bream?
  20. Thanks .That's a step nearer... Strange that a country and indeed E-bay site that promotes a device like Le "Taupe gun" should blanche at showing a few dead moles.Perhaps if they would have been happier to show your pictures if the "taupes " had been in tiny ,shrapnel -riddled pieces !
  21. Rakish-looking ,streamlined carp.Love the custom scale pattern on the mirror.Reminds me of a Sebright bantam .If this is the result of a "short 24 hour session ",what could you have caught in a "long" 24 hour session? Bet you had fun
  22. Young ferrets about 8 weeks old .I'm keeping a couple and have homes for most of the others but might have one or two in need of homes.Price ?Small donation ,packet of biscuits (nice ones mind) Might deliver. Appreciative homes more important than price. Feel free to PM but I might not answer straight away as I tend only to use the computer every few days..
  23. Just ignore me Missed the "without going over clause" Sue was jolly close though!
