  1. Hargreaves ,Drabble,DBP,Ted W, Dick Walker and now Fred Taylor .All clever enough to juggle careers with their love of fieldsports and fishing and find time to convert their experiences into film and print to be shared with others. All people who've held me spellbound at various times almost and all gone.Peter Stone -another loss- relates some classic and a not a little risque tales of night- fishing with Fred Taylor. Let's hopeTed Walsh was right in his theory of the existance of Ellysian hunting Fields in the after -life. It must be quite a place.
  2. Brill pic. Bit of a Milman on the computer but its so good it spurred me to vote for it(I hope I did vote and not join some deviant on-line fetish club by accident).Good luck with it.
  3. I'd be tempted to put them through letter boxes along with one of my business cards
  4. Cony I's jealous -mine don't go and DS I is really chuffed for you
  5. If they do stop ,throw yourself flat on the ground .If they are in a herd fallow will often turn to face you&come back for a look .Bit like dressing in wolf-skin to get in bow range. It's how I got this pic(without the wolf -skin or bow). I crawled away and they just watched me go and set about grazing again.
  6. 50 / 60 holes would be a small bury on some of our chalky ground and like your' burrows might be nice and open but tend to be deep. Wait for winter like everyone says .Less chance of young bunnies to cause lay-ups ,less chance of non-bolting territorial does and less chance of hormonal ferrets. Start early in the day to allow plenty of time for working the burrow through and to allow for any waiting time or lay-ups.If the digging is really bad you may well have to settle -in for a long wait .I'd make sure my freds were well-fed too. Some might say that would take the edge off their huntin
  7. Yes ,agree with just about everyone ,probably is a Baikal.Has it got what appears to be a brown bakalite butt -piece? There were a few Baikal hammer-guns turning up "as new "certainly up until 15 years ago because a mate bought one .Guess what ? Only one barrel worked properly.Rest of the gun -incredibly over-engineered and sturdy .
  8. Think it was Nellie the Woolly- Mammoth .Might've been something by Nick Cave or the Sacred Rolling Stones.I know everyone hated T Rex -so yesterday.Cliff Bl**dy Richard was about though.Ah, Sabre-Toothed Tygers of Pang Tang. "What's that nurse?" ."I've got a visitor".Best take these underpants off my head and behave before they sedate me ,take me to the day room and make me watch Randolph Scott westerns with the sound turned down.
  9. A good mate can't get Broadband where he lives and his children do all their homework using either his books or those from the library. They consistantly recieve better marks and higher praise for the originality of their work than their class-mates and come open day its his childrens' work on the class-room walls.
  10. Don't know if you candled to check developement of the chicks ,assuming they were fertile,24 days for pheasants is right .As long as you have the humidity&heat right I should resist the urge to fiddle .The humidity is important as it helps the chick break out of the membrane by keeping it supple.Don't let the heat & humidity out until you are happy nothing else is going to hatch which might occur over a period of several hours .Patience and good luck.
  11. Mole poo.Sorry, could'nt resist it.The novelty of the new camera still has'nt worn off.
  12. You 're right ,but ,er. Well you know my sad predeliction for the macabre . The advertising made me buy them. Unbiased curiosity made me try them.Honesty makes me condemn them. Sinclair C5 of traps really.
  13. Apart from the fact that the Nooski trap is not approved -hence illegal -for use against squirrels it is totally unsuitable . The thing is of dubious value against rats let alone anything bigger, tougher and stronger. Cheers
  14. The rings degrade quite quickly -would'nt want to use em twice or mess about with a dead rat anyway. . I suspect that the rodent stars of the Promotional video on the web were probably accustomed to going into the unset trap for food .Might explain why they seem so keen to dash to their deaths .Did't expect some b*st*rd with a video camera to set the trigger to kill....I gave it a fair trial but as far as I'm concerned the Nooski is a novelty for the collection rather than a serious or humane tool. Only my experience though .Others might have done better.
  15. Yes .Strangely I was thinking about a post myself asking for other folks' experience with The Nooski. Just as I really wanted Eradirat to prove to be breakthrough(Ok, I suspect it's possibly based on a 1920's idea) I really wanted the Nooski to at least prove itself a usefull bit of kit if only in limited circumstances..How in Heaven the thing was passed as a Spring Trap I don't know .Surely " Spring Activated Self-Locking Snare", would be a more accurate description?. I tested them on a smallholding owned by regular customers who don't seem to mind me trying new or different techniqu
  16. As for being an "Authorised person".Assuming it's your property or rented to make it effectivly your exclusive property the person who can authorise you to shoot on it (ie give you permission) is the head of your house-hold ( you if it is your home or maybe a parent or such-like if you are a youngster.) . Remember the chap a few years ago who caught London pigeons off the streets for the restaurent trade?Claimed they were vermin and that he could'nt be touched for it.His argument fell flat because he was was'nt "authorised "to do so by the relevent London council department who were resp
  17. Graffam used to be a trout fishery I believe-might explain the unpopularity of the pike.Don't know if it still contains trout but that little bream(what is it a foot or so long?) looks like its had its head chopped -off with a fairly blunt knife .Poachers ,kids being spitefull or maybe changing their minds about having a BBQ .From the picture it does'nt look as if its been chewed.
  18. I wonder how they "service" the collar .Apart being able to clean the terminal or replace a lost cap the things are sealed in resin?
  19. A mate had a 10 shot mag for his BRNO but it did occasionally jam when it got near the bottom so he went back to the five shot.I think the fact that a few people don't rate the .22 rf very seriously is because they've had bad experiences with semi-auto versions.
  20. I used to have a triple- two and still use a 12 bore ,410 and air rifles but if someone said that i could only have one gun it would be my faithfull old Brno .22 rim fire. Cheap to run and very versatile thanks to the different types of ammo available. If your land is safe for using one that would be my choice. My son in law,who shoots to quite high competition level and shoots vermin, toyed with the FAC air-rifle idea but decided to stick with his 12 ft lb modern pre-charged rifle.I had a go with it and was amazed at how far air -gun technology had come .
  21. Spring has sprung at last.Sunshine and neat pics of pretty flowers. Don't know if you have one but my daughter has just bought me a tripod for close-up macro-type shots from of all places the Pound Shop. Not quite as robust as the ones you see in the proper shops but for a lightweight pocket camera it seems fine.
  22. This herd run from The hxxxer ponds area across to the legendary "toothpaste mines"& down to the edge of town at night.Could be he same ones you saw -seem to be more white ones every year.Very big herd further south along the East of the 24. King John sent over 200 greyhounds to Knepp when he wanted to stock his larder so the area has always (despite the efforts of Canadian servicemen stationed here in the war apparently )held a good population of Fallow.
  23. Sorry to revive an oldish topic but I've just had a potter round a farm that used one of these tunnel busters a few months ago.Farmer showed me where rabbits have started opening -up the burrows again.Rather like badgers knowing by instinct the sites of historic setts. These burrows are now going to be bugger to ferret I'll bet.All cave-ins and dead -ends.Farmer said he probably( )won't use the thing any more.
  24. depends on where your fishing mate, rivers yes River fishing is allowed this time of year. even though they are spawning No. Thank God there is still a Close season on rivers though I think a few so-called specimen hunters would like to see it scrapped so they can notch-up a few river records with heavy spawn-laden fish.Stuff like that makes me feel like chucking the rods away. Right I'm off to shoot a few nesting pheasants but should be back in time to watch the Pregnant -women's Olympics on Sky.
  25. Sorry not the best again.Blxxdy llamas get everywhere.
