Luckily I am conversant with the art of using cuttle-fish "bones"as molds to cast silver ornaments and lead fishing weights (I'll post it up one day if it's not been done before.Dead good way of making weights. ) Crucifixes and silver bullets ,no problem.

Apologies if this is old news but it's scary. Just looking for info on some traps and turned up a site called National AntI Snaring Campaign. According to these people Gin traps are causing carnage to wildlife and pets. Not only that Kania 2000 traps are approved by DEFRA for use against woodpeckers! The site also tells it's visitors how to find and recognise traps and is compiling a data base of sporting estates. It also urges people to investigate private woods. I'm sure the "usual suspects " for my area(They give a Sussex PO BOx) are involved. What worries me apart from the general informa

Hello Mackem. Not surprised that there 're loads of web-sites about it.Not that I've looked (Computers are as alien to me as some folk think big cats are). People in this area have kept some fairly exotic stuff (genuine wolf,a lion!) .This was fairly common knowledge , actually saw the wolf myself .God knows what was kept in secret so some scope for escapees. We had red deer in the woods after the 87 storm and I've seen boar over the last two years so no doubt stuff does "leak" out. Puma was caught ,little "big cats" have been shot, trapped ,run over etc but has anyone come across a litter of cu

And here is an example of the reason why there are unlikely to be many if any viable ,long term populatons of Big cats in Britain. Inbreeding. The Iberian lynx is dying out through infertility due to inbreeding ,even with a population of 100 plus the pathetic gene pool held in wildlife breeding programmes. Not saying there ar'nt or hav'nt been cats loose (plenty of reports from my area and I have reasons for believing at least some of em) but breeding populations of cats need to have access to a large gene-pool.

Up until the Pest Act 1954 you could probably have done it legally but the Act not only banned the movement of myxyied rabbits(live or dead) for spreading the disease but made it a duty to kill and control rabbits on your land. Releasing rabbits would not comply with this .

Sorry Kay, i can't really think of a vocalist either......Axel Rose? Brian Johnson? Michael Bauble or whatever he's called.....lol. A young Robert Plant...Graeme Bonnet (Rainbow) Dio (ex Rainbow) all good chanters...Paul Rodgers Paul Rogers With one of them birds from Heart on backing vocals, Brian Downey drumming ,Lemmy on bass (have you noticed he plays it in a rythmy/lead style of his own?) Probably NOT Hank Marvin on lead but he's pretty good and he can walk backwards in circles whilst playing!

Now either you and Paul L are very old or have great taste! Kossof,Ralphs -something very haunting about the Free /Bad Co sound at times. Again Eric Bell ,the Gorham/Robinson partnership when it was on form was distinctive .Moore might have been a better technician but there was something too clinical, too "standard guitar hero poses 1,2 and 3" about his Lizzy stuff. Peter green .I saw him supporting one of the great n famous guitarists a few years back. Mr Great n Famous did'nt miss a note ,brilliant dislplay but, Oh so boring. Cocky sod ended with ",I shall be giving autograghs backstag

Think the 39 Act is the one that allows gassing .Matt the rat might possibly be right about it being hard to find a clause that says "Thou shalt not release" but the general intimation of the various Laws ,Orders and Acts enacted since the long -gone days of the maintained warren system are clearly aimed at rabbit reduction as opposed to rabbit release. Any animal in captivity automatically places a legal responsibility on it's possesser. At what point a live rabbit becomes captive would be open to debate but my guess would be that the status of a rabbit in a flimsy net or dog's mouth might

As apart from a few islands and the City of London parks" Britain is a Rabbit Clearance Area"---every person has a duty to kill as many rabbits as possible on his land --- releasing a bun would be a failure of a legal requirement . I also have in my head an "Agricultural Pests Act" but without me book to hand I'll shut up for now

Best guitarist ,who will ever know? Technical excellence don't always equal entertaining. Favourite(s); On a good day ,lots of these guys have been mentioned.Rory Gallager,Blackmoore,Moore, them nutters from Skynerd, that battle of the guitars on Lizzy's" Emerald"hits a spot,Hendrix,Dave Edmonds really can play some hot-sh*t-not just corny Rockabilly stuff,,Slash when he wants to,Wish I'd never started (bet you lot did too) too many ! Oh good ole Carlos of course.Tony Iiomi -check out Snowblind.

comanche, the guy should have payed you to take that monstrosity off his hands . Monstrosity? Tis abit like sideboard, you are right. I have this image of it being set in the kitchen or cobbled coach- yard of some great ,cold gothic mansion to deal with scrounging cats . I'l try for a close up for You John b.Also i experimented with other designs of trigger, including a notched stick with the string running through a hole near the top but although it worked well -not too hair triggered but, well, just right- there was to my mind too much chance of it being sprung by an animal foraging ar

Ah John B ,hello . You are right about the elegance of the original design and the reason _to my shame _that the string and pin arrangement look incongruouse is because they were just something I cobbled up as an experement. No evidence of string -wear grooves. Some marks inside as if it may have been used(lightly ,if at all) but not conclusive . All vulnerable edges are lined with copper plates to prevent scratching or gnawing. Your' "T" set -up for the string makes for a neater job .I'll try it . The little block of wood with the pin was loose inside . It seems to help keep the

Gamekeeping advice
comanche replied to martinc's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Good advice from Waz ..Just to add a word about pop-holes.Don't forget to make sure they are open and have decent lead- in wings to guide birds back to the safety of the pen until they are at home in the big wide world and decent anti fox grills. Don't do this and your poults will wander round and round the wire ,especially during the evening as they try to get back to their familiar pen roosts. If they can't get back they'll jug outside and be picked up by foxes either overnight or at first light. And keep those electric fences working for a while longer so the birds have a safe haven -
About two n half feet long ,possibly of oak , Circa 1920's? . Guessing suitable for anything from a polecat /marten sized animal up to a cat. Has a swivelling wooden block with a hollow carved for the bait as a treadle . I've rigged a trigger pin and string but once again I was only working on guesswork so any more accurate information would be gratefully accepted .

I don't know about E-Bay but I can tell you where not to buy a Mk3 from.. KWS farm shop, Handcross ,Sussex had them on the shelf last Saturday for a mere £200 !

Dry food ? Biscuits? Check the bag they came in . Take back to shop if you find any more .Most mites are fairly specific about what they will feed and live on so finding and taking away the cause is the first move.

Brad a pest ? It's not funny is it ? I know how you feel after all that trouble I had with Lucy Lawless "Come dogs, the outside and sanity awaits!"
-
Leaf it out Kay! Poor thing has had a hard time lately .What with Brad after her and getting sacked as unsuitable from her job modelling Real Tree products. Maybe she does need a trim but er too many double entendres come to mind so I think I'll take the dogs out . Assuming of course that there is still an "Out" out there.Did'nt hear a bang?

Dunno what's going on (No telly) but Brad Pitt just knocked on the door .Apparently the End is Nigh and he needs to find the woman of his dreams before it is too late .Asked me to help in the search by circulating this picture of her

Fresh autumnal air, up-n- coming equinox ,time to gather the crops and give thanks for what the land has provided and what the coming hunting season may bring .

Actually I believe he was a Norman .As were De Brus(Bruce) ,Baliol and Comyn and about a dozen others. Bunch of fuedal overlords squabbling over the crown of Scotland. As some of these chaps already held land and favour in England they invited Edward 1st to mediate. Did'nt like his choice -Baliol-and it all kicked -off . That may not be totally the way it happened but it is probably a lot more accurate than the film . As a bit of cinema (yeh Mackem if you can ignore the US-born,Aussie -raised actor with a Scottish accent that seems to change half-way through! You know the

Scavenged from a shed clearance.Probably not rare or anything but look at the quality compared with todays Nippers and self-sets. And I've learned how to add text to a picture !
