  11. A lorry drove in the quarry today for a load and was wearing a mask and a hardhat in the cab with his window closed..strange as feck..
  12. Hope you get better soon mate ?
  13. Moxy I haven't seen one of them for years.. time soon flies when you are at it all day mate.. They stockpiling the topsoil or topsoiling the batters etc..
  14. And agency's don't pay x1.5 mate..it's an easy life I think driving plant..yes you got to put the hours in for a decent wage..but for the uneducated folk out there and I'm one the money is ok I think...I can see me being where I am now for the long term to be honest...it is like groundhog day but that's the same everywhere I think.. How did you get on stripping topsoil..
  15. Ah right lol.you had me thinking mate..ey fair play to your old man for playing for Wales though ?
  16. Good pic that mate.. I'm more worried why you have the card behind it in your hand ?
  17. When I was 17 I worked in a factory on a sewing machine making M&S blouses mate for 9 months ? now that was very boring.. It's what I'm used to mate.driving machines it's maybe sad but I do quite like driving plant keeping everything nice and neat clean etc.. The countryside is definitely better to work in no doubt..I can strip the topsoil off your field for you and put it in a neat long bund for greb to sit on loading trucks ?
  18. About 30k a year 2.5k a month 625 a week..not amazing money no..but 100% job security untill you retire if you want to stay in a quarry mate.. Is pulling the levers on a dozer or digger tedious mate..not really your hands work on there own without any thought from you once you are used to the machines mate..radio on bottle of water and relax and crack on...sitting on your arse all day..
  19. Have the crack with the site manager mate.about working direct to them on the books...they will save money by not paying the agencies fees..ring around the local quarry's tomorrow..just google quarry's in your county on google maps and they will all be there..ring them starting closest to you and work out distance wise if that's the route you want to take..all the quarry's will pay a similar rate mate..
  20. I'm working in a quarry..and they didn't have a single day off when covid hit mate..no rain offs as working with rock..not a single ton of topsoil or subsoil to be seen..lots of lads been there 15+ yrs 1 lad 37yrs.. Muckshifting is seasonal work really when I started 27yrs ago I done my telehandler ticket to jump on the building sites through winter.once spring came around back on the muckshift.. To be honest the place I just started is the most relaxed place I've ever worked. Leave the hole at 10 to for break in the cabin for 5 to and walk out the cabin at 20 to and not a singl
  21. That's it mate..although £25 is a good rate..once you factor in digs and food and most importantly being away from home the 800 doesn't seem so good... Now commuting and clearing £950 after tax and ni is good.working away is a single man's game I think ?
  22. He had got a mischievous look about him mate..and you well not even a smile ffs ?
  23. Tremendous amount of work out there now mate..and better rates than there has ever been.. Just before the 2008 crash the rates were about £13/14 on a dozer..the rates now are between £22/25hr 360 rates about £18/20hr. Ideally you don't want to start on a house building site and that involves some precision to within 10mm for mot for drives/paths etc topsoiling you will have a little more tolerance.. Quarry work or muckshifting is working to the eye so to speak if it looks good to the eye it will do just fine..if you are on a 360 cutting a bench and loading trucks it won't
